Last Kingdom will get better.

I'm in the middle of season 2, and it has picked up.

Have to keep going on Succession. Pretty much everyone who's watched will say to get through the first half of season 1 and then it takes off. Probably the best show on TV right now. It becomes very very good.

That was my problem with the show. I was watching it weekly when it started, and after four episodes I bounced off it. I didn't (and still don't) really believe people who say it's as good as it is.

But I guess I can rattle off a bunch of shows that needed a season to get going, so *shrugs*.

After binging all 20+ Yellowstone episodes I'm struggling to find something. I need sports back badly. Or just not watch so much TV.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Has anybody done the tally/math on The Last Kingdom? I feel like if you were born within 10 years of Uhtred your chances of being killed by him are like 1 in 50.

You lasted more than 3 episodes longer than I did. Every single character is so irredeemingably awful I couldn't bare to watch.

I cant understand how it could become anything other than a foul cesspool. And that doesn't sound like ANY fun.

Succession is my favorite show currently on TV but I have a couple of friends that have had a hard time with it because there’s nobody to root for. Everybody in the show is a garbage human being and if that’s hard for you to digest them this is not the show for you. Personally I think it’s brilliant.

RE: Succession:

Spoiler:
I’d argue they aren’t irredeemable. They are flawed and damaged human beings who use defenses that they learned to develop in order to survive their upbringing. It’s the ultimate example of intergenerational trauma and what it does to a family when they don’t confront it head on. It’s their programming. It’s messed up. Finding compassion for them is a real pay off if you can develop it.

I think the writing is fantastic. It makes me angry, sad, embarrassed (The scene where Kendall serenades Logan at his bday made me cringe inside), excited. The more emotions a show develops in me as I watch it, the more interesting it is to me.

Not having a character to root for is a perpetual problem for me with a lot of prestige shows. Maybe they're brilliant, but just not for me.

Totally understandable. I have a buddy who has great taste in movies and TV but he would take movies like Coco and Kobu and the Two Strings (both fantastic movies) over a show like Succession in a heart beat. He just can’t get past the characters. Me on the other hand...I rewound the part where Roman tears the check up in front of the kid and his parents on the baseball diamond (multiple times) while laughing. It was so comically evil and over the top I couldn’t believe it.

Enjoyed episode 2 of Succession. I couldn't care less about "rooting" for fictional characters. Hell I loved a meth dealer in Breaking Bad, a cartel lawyer in Better Call Saul and a cartel money launderer in Ozark. All terrific shows.

This is how I'm framing Billions and Succession: they're both sort of the same right? Billions is one of my favorite shows, Succession I don't get the appeal at all.

I think the big thing is in Billions the richest and most powerful people in the room are always the smartest too. Bobby Axelrod is always one step ahead of the feds. It's fun to watch, even as he's a total piece of ****. I root for this massive **** just to see how much he can get away with.

It's the same on the other side, somehow. Rhoades is just as much of a slimeball but he's doing it because he thinks he's righteous. It's great to watch him to get into the muck.

I love everyone on the show, even as they're all total pieces of ****. But I hate everyone on Succession and want them all nuked into oblivion.

Despite dealing with billionaires, Succession and Billions are quite different. Both are 2 of my favorites, but I think I may lean Succession for my current favorite.

Well if you'd only made it one episode or even just a few I think it's tough to say there is nothing redeemable about them or that they're any different than every show's "ani hero's" these days. Moreover, in this one they don't necessarily even try to make them out to be the good guys. A lot of things happen that humanize these people though so it pulls back some of the negativity you're associating with them now.

"You have to get through the first *insert way-too-high number of episodes here* before it really picks up" = "This show isn't as great as I'm hyping it up to be".
