Do you or anyone know how sign and trades would work for KCP? LA has his bird rights if he opts out. Could we sign him for a high 1 yr deal and use him?

Would really help in a deal for cp3, who is the most plausible option, albeit a tough one

Crossing off Lowry and DD. I should probably do the same for Conley and Dipo.

I don’t love going for LA, but not crossing him off yet.

No discussion on Dinwiddie really, not a great fit (can’t shoot or defend well), but he is still a positive player on cheaper contract for a year

Hayward is interesting tbh now that someone brought it up, but not very easy to pull off

No team is going to take 4-6 scrubs and a late pick for a star.

LAL might be better served watching the waiver wire very carefully. There’s a chance that some team might negotiate a buy out for some overpaid, underperforming high profile player.

This won’t be your dream player. It’ll be someone like Kevin Love, Blake Griffin or Mike Conley. Fine players with age, injury and fit issues to consider.

Scrubs?

So half the rotation of the Lakers are scrubs? Ya, ok

DG is still a very good player, his advanced numbers are very high
A late 1st is still something
Kuzma has been up and down for us, but also game off a foot injury this year, lets see how he finishes the yr. He may be useful for a team he can start on, like OKC.
Avery is a neutral player, negative on O, plus on D
Mcgee has been a plus this year, underrated C who is a great lob and dunk threat, can block shots. Boston can use a bigger and longer C or they can use all the pieces, besides DG, to obtain a better C

LAL has a lot of depth at guard spots, but not many shot creators (lets see what dion can do though), which is why they would want a guy like Hayward

If OKC were to accept Kuzma, 1st, Mcgee, salary filler for Adams (which is a nice haul for an overpaid big), then Boston could get Danny and Adams for Hayward

"Scrub" might not be the right word for Bradley/McGee but neither have any real trade value. They are veteran minimum players, especially in this environment where more players will sign for that. If LAL give them up in a trade they'll just sign new vet minimum guys who will be just as solid in their roles. If you guys need to use their salaries to aggregate in a bigger deal as they don't bring any talent beyond what you'd replace them with on vet min deals, especially recruiting to the LA market to play with Lebron/AD on a Finals contender.

Green is still a very solid player. I'm with you there.

Kuzma isn't bad but he's just not worth much. Only one year left on his deal so he loses the rookie contract appeal soon. He's a complimentary player who struggles to do complimentary player type things. He looked good on those crap Lakers teams before Lebron and while Lebron was out because he got to volume score but he's not good enough for a volume scoring role omg a good team.

Why would KCP opt out of his contract ($8,493,746) for next season?

1) If he would be part of a sign and trade to inflate his contract value, like 1 yr 20-30M to use for cp3 (if allowed)
2) Most players like to have a 2nd year or a PO in case they got a big injury

His value is around that number tbh, especially with the cap coming down and most teams having limited space this summer

If the sequence of things stays the same as it has been in the past, then the deadline for KCP to opt out would be before free agency starts. For KCP to know that he needs to opt out for a large Sign & Trade contract that would have him go to OKC (or similar), then he would need to know that the large jackpot is waiting for him at the time of his opt out deadline. How would he know that the large jackpot is there unless his agent was negotiating the deal with LAL and OKC prior to the start of free agency?

The league has said they are going to monitor/police contacts between teams, agents and players more than they have in the past.

NBA increases fines for tampering, unauthorized agreements

The NBA’s heightened vigilance against tampering announced Friday will only be as successful as the team owners’ commitment to stopping it or, at least, having the league enforce their rules against them.

An increase in fines for tampering, for entering into unauthorized agreements with players and even for talking about players under contract elsewhere passed unanimously, commissioner Adam Silver said, in a vote of the Board of Governors. Final figures still were to be determined, though reports have suggested the maximum fines could rise to $10 million for tampering, $6 million for improper deals and $5 million for comments enticing other teams’ players.

Tougher penalties, however, only matter if the league’s 30 franchises have the will to do what it takes to impose them. And the discipline not to do what triggers them. The meetings this week and Friday’s vote didn’t only give Silver a bigger stick to wield against such violations, they encouraged him to use it.

The message of the Board? “You need to do a better job enforcing the rules that are already on your books,” Silver said, “and do a better job ensuring that there is a culture around the league where people believe there are absolute consequences if you don't play by the rules.”

The frenzied free agent market this offseason, for instance, raised red flags about teams’ compliance with rules dictating when front-office executives and players’ representatives could begin negotiations. The number and enormity of deals that leaked out within minutes of the June 30 tipoff suggested that contract talks in many cases surely began before the designated period.

KCP opting out of his contract so he can get the huge Sign & Trade deal seems like something the league would be interested in hearing more about from LAL, OKC, KCP and his agent.

Laker fans getting used to the idea of tampering to the point that they are proposing it like it is a legit strategy, lol.

I don't see the Lakers having value for anyone at a star level on a plus value contract, which leaves guys like Paul who are stars but overpaid.

Fair point, but is a 1st and Kuzma somewhat reasonable for Adams? Seems very fair

Not particularly to me. Adams is good and anly two years older. They're free agents the same year I believe and don't see Adams getting another deal nearly as big. There's another thread up currently where in general consensus seems Adams has positive value, and Kuz and the last pick in the first round does too....it's just very little value. And I don't see OKC being interested in him, basically it requires a player who the other team just wants to offload.

CP3 fits the bill better, but OKC also isn't going to consider adding in picks to move him.

Look at my deal above your post from the cp3 deal, is that better?

You guys give an LAC first but get our 1st, for salary reasons.

You take on a lot of expirings and 1 non expiring on a decent deal for cp3 basically

Mostly a move to shed salary and be able to retool and do worse, OKC is too good to tank with cp3

KCP has a LEGIT case for opting out as most nba players dont like to play with 1 yr left unless it is a big overpay and his 8.5M is not that
So he opts out with the intent of coming back on a longer deal or a larger 1 yr or go elsewhere
Then the Lakers and OKC agree to a deal and would use KCP in a sign and trade
Where is that illegal?

If Dipo won’t sign an extension...

To Pacers: Wiggins + Kuzma + Looney + 2020 GSW FRP + 2021 Wolves FRP + Lakers FFRP + 11Mil Capspace

To GSW: Turner + Green + KCP + 2020 Lakers FRP

To Lakers: Dipo + Lamb + Small GSW Filler

Pacers start a rebuild. But they wouldn’t be a half bad team in East.
C: Sabonis
F: Kuzma
F: Warren | McDermott
G: Wiggins
G: Brogdon
Plus top 3 pick...GOF maybe.

Warriors get a great lineup.
C: Turner | Draymond | Chriss
F: Draymond | Paschall
F: Danny | Klay
G: Klay | KCP
G: Curry | Rose (#29 + TPE for Rose)

Lakers take a chance on Dipo health and his expiring contract.

In what world a Danny Green for Aldridge trade is shut down by the team sending DG?

For

KCP (sign and trade 15 mill per 3 years final two unguarenteed )
Rondo
Danny Green

Then just for fun

Quinn Cook
Horton tucker

For

Derrick Rose

Resign Dwight to a min

Sign Melo to a min

Chris Paul
Derrick Rose/Avery Bradley

Great fitting big 3 with ring hungry role players around LeBron. This team would go 98-0 in 2012 lol but would still win it all in 2021.
2016 GMAT Blazers

Howard/Nene/
Griffin/M.Leonard/T.Jones
Porter/Marc.Morris/J.Johnson
McCollum/Stauskas/Thompson/Seldon
Lillard/Bayless/DeColo

Not sure it works that way
CP3 has neutral value, positive player, very tough contract to swallow
LAL may still do it if this it what it takes, but this is a huge pill to swallow and they would and shoudl explore other avenues 1st

That's great, they wanted a star. OKC doesnt need to trade Paul. Also Houston sent picks to get Westbrook, not KCP or Kuzma

Also yes, they'd expect to not have to give value to move him, a rebuilding team doesn't really care.

So he opts out with the intent of coming back on a longer deal or a larger 1 yr or go elsewhere

It is no secret that expectations are that the salary cap will have a very modest (if any) increase for the coming season and perhaps for the next several seasons.

I seem to remember that the POV of most pro LAL fans is that the Lakers will try to keep some flexibility for summer 2021 rather than take on multiple years of a contract unless the deal is just so lopsided that the Lakers can't turn it down. So I am skeptical of the suggestion that the Lakers would offer him a multi year deal if he opts out of the final year of his contract. Is he that valuable that the Lakers would give him a large one year ballon contract if he opts out? LAL already gave him the balloon contract in his first season when they were establishing good relations with LeBron, Klutch and Rich Paul.

............Games....Starts......3 Pt %............Salary.....
2017-18......74.......74..........38.3%.........$17,745,894
2018-19......82.......23..........34.7%.........$12,000,000
2019-20......63.......20..........39.4%...........$8,089,282

If the salary cap for next season remains roughly the same as this season, then the non-taxpayer MLE will be about $9.3 million. If KCP stays with LAL on the final year of his contract, then he will make $8.5 million. Other than Miami, the teams expected to have cap space are in more of a rebuilding mode than a contender mode. The demand across the league seems to be for full sized SF types rather than SG types that start on blah teams and come off the bench on better teams.

If we set aside the sign and trade stuff, what is the expected contract offer for KCP as a FA in the coming offseason? LeBron seems locked in to staying in LA, so teams won't be offering a large balloon contract to KCP in hopes of eventually luring LeBron to their team.

Are the rebuilding teams with cap space going to offer him a contract for more salary than the non-taxpayer MLE? Are the teams without cap space going to dump salary (with compensation) so they can carve out enough cap space to sign KCP for more than the non-taxpayer MLE of $9.3 million?

If something happens like you are suggeting which is that KCP opts out and then gets a large Sign & Trade deal, then I would expect the league to ask around to see if the Sign & Trade deal was generally agreed to prior to the deadline for KCP to opt out.

I rather keep KCP than Lamb coming off an injury and Oladipo coming off injury, too much risk there for me

Indi isn't doing a full teardown, which makes sense for that team since they never tank, but do they want to do this?

If LAL can move DG, Kuz, and our 1st for Oladipo alone, I would do it in this deal

KCP, Oladipo, Lebron, AD, Stretch big for MLE?
Avery, Caruso, Mcgee
Rondo, Cook, THT

Still have bi annual and mins. Look to bring back Kieff, Boogie, Dudley, Dwight, and maybe JR and or Dion if they play well
Try to see what Mcgee (if Dwight is back) and Avery can fetch in terms of bench guard or wing depth
