And on cue, 5 straight losses and the wild card is tied up. We need to bury Seattle next week.

Actually Seattle played us really, really well. We split a 4 game series in the Bronx and lost 2 of 3 in Safeco, so we have a lot to prove against them. Not sure if people remember, but there was that caught stealing where Cano laid the tag on the runner's leg in the 8th inning but the ump called him safe. Run scored and we lost. Amazing how that botched play in May could decide the wild card.

But that was when we sucked back in May, we are pretty much the opposite now. We should absolutely roll over them and expose that crappy staff for what it is (which the Angels began to do).

EDIT: Here is a quote fromt he recap of that game

NEW YORK -- A blown call and a big swing by Adrian Beltre against Mariano Rivera helped the Seattle Mariners gain a comeback victory.

Beltre hit a tiebreaking homer off Rivera in the ninth inning, and Seattle took advantage of a huge break on a not-even-close play at second base to beat the New York Yankees 3-2 Monday night.

"We'll take it," Willie Bloomquist said. "It's just a good thing there's no instant replay in baseball."

After seeing the replay, a gracious Davis admitted he missed the call -- badly.

"The throw was to the first-base side and pulled Robinson toward me a little bit, so I couldn't see the runner's hands. Normally when the runner is tagged on his backside, his hands are at the bag. That obviously wasn't the case tonight," Davis said.

If the Yanks miss the wild card by 1 game to the M's, imagine the outrage in NYC?

We got really lucky with the wild card. Seattle can't win a game and Detroit blows a 7 run lead. Time to start taking care of business, no backing into the playoffs please.

Yea, Seattle is free falling as they are now playing good teams. Detroit has been in a down fall the entire second half. This team can have this weekend off after that huge series against Boston, but no more not showing up for a series from here on out. It's September and it's time to take care of business. The Yanks need to go out this week and win 5 or 6 games and have a 4 or 5 game lead in the WC after the first week of September. That would be great.
