because having the crowd match the player uniform means everyone is wearing white in their home arenas

thats boring

no one wants a white jersey get the colour funky ones and have the players were the colour coordinated ones at home so the fans can wear their colour jerseys too

it sells more

As a fan, I've always prefered home team in whites and visitors in colours (I was disappointed when the NHL changed away from that). It makes each game visually different. White vs visiting colour. With the home team in darks, it's much more quotidian Home team colour vs whites, every home game.

It started because of cleanliness. It was harder to keep the whites clean on the road. But it also helped show off road jerseys. So you saw all the different colors. Now it is always the same colour vs white because local teams are just advertising for their own sales.

my take is... who gives a flying ****. It's a color for god's sake. There are more important things to worry about.

It started when Nike took over the contract for the uniforms. They changed it from home and away to a bunch of names like icon and association, and had them change it so that teams can wear road uniforms at home.

One of the more small yet idiotic moves Silver has established in his era as commish. There was literately no reason to switch.

home white was always boring and stupid.

teams should have their own colours ( and btw those colours should NEVER change)
only use B or C uniform if the two teams use same colours.

as in when mufc plays liverpool one of them has to obvioulsy change to uniform B but if liverpool plays chelsea theres no need for any of them not to use their usual red and blue respective uniforms.

NO ONE has black and white tvs any more.
so, death to white unis ( unless white IS your coulour, like valencia, real madrid or gladbach).

I can't think of a white jersey I actually like. Most teams should just do away with white jerseys and go with another light color as their regular home jersey.

As much as I dislike the Lakers, have to give props their classic "gold" home jersey is fantastic.

I like the idea of home team using their team's color. Be it white, red, green, pink or what ever. Away team just uses the uniform that doesn't mix with the home teams color, so two set's of uniforms would be enough. If home team always uses same color every year their fans just need to buy one shirt and it works decades. Sure it is not good for business, but I don't care. Also it is much nicer to look at the arena's if the different arenas have different color schemes.

I'm definitely all for Home Whites and Away Darks coming back. If the people like variety so much the league should have the teams have variety in Home whites and Away Darks to solve it.

I mean that's what the Lakers did when they first introduced the White Jerseys. They wore those sometimes and still went back to their yellow ones too throughout those early-mid 2000 seasons. If they can do that so should the teams of today imo.

The only way this can happen though is if Nike or whoever it is that's in charge of the uniforms now is convinced.

My first though was mostly who cares, but then I thought about it a bit more. I kinda have to agree, I'll turn on games and it takes me 10 seconds of confused staring to find the score board to figure out who the teams are. Nike truly has been a disaster with their jersey's.

I don't see a problem. As long as the teams are clearly distinguished.

Can't say I care about this and literally never think about it outside of when people get super heated about it on here from time to time.

I said this many times, but I hate white uniforms at home, NBA literally got it backwards, you wear your colors at home, and you only wear away if it clashes with other team home color. White's should be used as little as possible, it is easily the most boring of the jerseys. We all know that every NBA team's primary color isnt white, so why do they wear white at home like they are Real Madrid? When I think of Celtics, I think of green, they should always wear green, its like if Liverpool never wore red in Anfield, or Man City never wore teal in Manchester, what sense does it make?

Easily best uniforms in the game.

I agree with TS. Something about road colors actually had me excited to watch my team play road games since the road unis were always nicer than the "boring" home whites

I'll also take it a step further; I remember in the 90s when teams would be coordinated with their shoes. E.g. teams like the Bulls, Pacers, Sonics, Knicks, etc would wear white shoes all RS then switch to black for the PS. Just added another layer of distinction to the playoffs that subtly elevated the atmosphere imo

It's something that's become entrenched to the point where the home white/road color concept is integrated into the jersey design itself. Notice how so many home white jerseys have the team name whereas the road colors have the city, e.g. here's the Bucks:

A lot of the alternate jerseys conflate this but it's a subtle consistency with most standard home/road jerseys. My guess is because when a team is at home, everyone knows what city the game is being played in so the home whites can feature the team name. But on the road, the idea of displaying what city you're coming from is prioritized. Just my guess for the reasoning but the home/white/name and road/color/city theme is pretty consistent
