Yeah, russians for example don't give a f. No one wearing masks, bars are stacked, football matches will be allowed at 50% attendance since August 1st. Pretty much back to normal life. Fun times

Yeah, this thing is pretty unpredictable tbh. USA get 3 times more cases and match deaths of Japan TOTAL in a single day. Situations vary in different counties/places. It makes sense in some ways but it doesn't in many ways.
I'm just happy that we might get to watch NBA again MOS. I started watching Formula 1 again. That's a sport that no-crowd doesn't bother you at all. NBA will be different, but the TV crew can work their magic and make it somewhat excitable (a la old school sitcoms)

Soccer without fans looks pretty decent, or maybe I just don't remember how it used to be

If you really enjoy the sport, I think we get used to watching anything without fans. There will be some moments where they will be missed (final buzzer moments in playoffs etc) but for the most part we'll get by. Some people like the atmosphere of being in the arena and going wild, but I've always been fine watching sports on TV quietly (even on mute sometimes).
Whatever it is, it beats alternatives of NBA classic or Zeta Gundam from 1989.

I think it’s just a matter of the way statistics are taken and our overall medical system.
I will lead off with our medical system, it is broken. Profit is repeatedly placed ahead of so many other priorities such as national security (more beds costs more money), or even the health of patients (push out the guy who has subpar insurance and bring in the guy who has the profitable ailment with good insurance). There needs to be a blending of free market principles with public health principles in our healthcare sector. As Winston Churchill once noted, healthy citizens are a nation’s best asset.
In regards to stats, there may be more beds occupied due to COVID, but it’s also standard procedure to test anyone in a hospital for COVID in the US. This may not be the case in other countries. So for example, if you are in the hospital for a car accident, but you also tested positive for COVID, you are now a COVID patient occupying a bed. In addition, the data has no form of quality control or standardization from what I can see. So for example, if the hospital tests you 10 times for COVID, they could very well say there are 10 cases.
OP for NBA FT record

You're a year late. They ain't winning Libertadores again with Jorge Jesus having left.
Looking forward to the group stage rematch on our soil
I support Barcelona Sporting Club. We had a friendly today with Guayaquil City. Happy coincidence that my two favorite teams played for the first time in four months on the same day.

I did not change to win more championships. Flamengo and SPFC both have lots of cups, including the world championship of clubs. I changed to Flamengo because of philosophy. Too many SPFC fans and directors supported the dictatorship and support Bolsonaro now. There is also a tendency I have noticed of homophobia (they expelled Richarlyson a few years ago because of their perceived notions of his femininity). Flamengo fans are not perfect, but in Rio they are the team of the ghetto and also the artists. Besides my wife is Flamengo and that's reason enough.

Re: Random Thoughts XIX
Fair enough reasons to switch clubs. Most South American club supporters are vile, my club's included. I'm aware of Sao Paolo's accolades. I used to watch Brasileirao as a kid. Liked watching Corinthians, hated Palmeiras. Sao Paolo were badass in the 90s (so were we, we made two Libertadores finals and got robbed in one against Olimpia, Vasco Da Gama kicked our asses in the second one).
Every year I go to Nico McBrain's block party at Rock N Roll ribs in Coconut Creek. Last year's was packed with Flamengo supporters. They were a fun bunch. We South Americans sure love metal. You guys have produced legendary bands like Sepultura and Angra.
I was actually in Ecuador when I watched last year's Libertadores Final. Usually go once or twice a year to visit my family. What a choke job by River, one of the worse I've seen in 30 years of watching the sport.

Re: Random Thoughts XIX
I really liked that team with Ayala & Damian Diaz in 2017 or so. And yeah, there's nothing like a great match live.
I saw Zico's final match at Maracanã back in 1990. The whole place was THUNDERING. I mean really, really loud... so loud the arquibancada was vibrating like an oscillating wave. ZICO ZICO ZICO.
When I met him at Universal Studios in Orlando (Flamengo were visiting for the Florida Cup) we had a good laugh about the experience. He confessed he was in pain for days after that game. He had to play on two teams (one the championship team from 1981, half retired, and one the 1990 team.) It was a draw 1-1. Perfect.
