Maybe in hindsight, but the Satoranksy signing was considered great by the media and a lot of board posters.
https://www.blogabull.com/2019/9/16/20863758/tomas-satoransky-highlights-fiba-world-cup-bullsThe Bulls new point guard hasn’t just been the best player on a darling, underdog Czech Republic team. He’s been one of the best players in the whole freaking tournament.
15.5 points per game. 5.6 rebounds per game. 8.5 assists per game. 48,1 percent from 3-point land on over three attempts per game. 2.8 turnovers per game which gives him an over 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
He probably isn’t going to reciprocate these numbers come the NBA season, but Satoransky has to be the most complete point guard the Chicago Bulls have had on their roster since Derrick Rose, right?
https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bulls/tomas-satoransky-continues-fiba-world-cup-dominance-against-polandThe Bulls' newest point guard was at it again in the FIBA World Cup, posting a 22-point, 12-assist line in the Czech Republic's 94-84 victory over Poland on Wednesday.
Satoransky went 8 of 14 from the field, connected on 2 of 4 3-pointers and made all four of his free throw attempts. He also added four rebounds and was a team-high +16 in 32 minutes.
Through six games, Satoransky has averaged 15.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 8.9 assists in 33.9 minutes. He's shot 46.7% from the field and made 45.5% of his 22 3-point attempts.
The FO at the time was planning on going big for the 21 FA class like most of the league, so it had to be only a 2 year contract or cheap 3 year with a non-guaranteed 3rd year, which is what Sato was.
Better PGs like Brogdon demanded a 4 year full contract and probably a team closer to winning games than Chicago.
Given all these restrictions that you couldn't pay much, couldn't give more than 2 years, and Chicago was a crappy team, I'm not sure how the Bulls do much better when you're only paying slightly above MLE, which is an insult offer for most good players.
