I was keen to get Capela even if it meant trading Theis. Ill gladly take that back. Dude does so many things that get unnoticed.

Bottom line Theis cannot play against beefier bigs. Otherwise he's been solid.

That post aged well. Joker been awesome.

Theis has been fine but imagine if Ainge had traded him plus picks and several young players for Steven Adams/Clint Capela/Andre Drummond.

Would have had to sacrifice Gordon or Smart in those deals. No thank you.

Gordon has been stellar and so good this year, those Drummond rumors were laughable.

Even better, Gordon and Theis for Drummond, who says no? Every team needs a high usage low efficiency center, just look around the league.

Theis is a great fit for what we do. We like to switch P&Rs and he can manage that. If you're asking a guy to do that, you're going to have to sacrifice some size because players who can do that but also have traditional center size are rare as hell. Offensively, we ask guys to handle out of the high post some and be more than just a lob threat. Theis brings that, with a little bit of shooting as well.

Guys like Drummond, Adams, Capela all bring a skill set that would be welcome here. We would benefit from what any of those guys bring for sure. But it just wasn't and isn't worth a high price because their flaws are in areas our system on both ends is built around. Obviously we could adjust the system the way we have for certain players but you don't want to pay a high price to get a player you have to change for.

A few of us saw thies being a starter. So far I like it however I still think he is better suited for power forward. But dude closes and seals the lane like no one else. If Tatum and Brown didn't make the leap that they did I would have had him as most improved Celtic. I hope we keep him for the next contact. Can't teach hustle.

Some of Theis' interior screens are works of art. There are no stats that capture this.

Not an official box score stat, but I think they're counted as screen assists. Theis is 7th among 228 players with at least 1,000 minutes played in screen assists per 36 minutes. He's 6th in screen assist points per 36.

The eye test backs this **** up. He frees up our wings for a lane to the basket like I've never seen any Celtics center do, including Aron Baynes, from whom he's probably learned this art. That stat also includes his screens from the top of the key freeing up pull up three point shooters like Kemba and Tatum.

Theis plays much bigger than he actually is. He's been better than I thought he would be and I thought he'd be good. He's a top defensive big man in the league and he does bring a lot to the offensive end as well even without scoring.
Good assessment:

PLO wrote:Tatum played OK - took advantage of a few mismatches - decent on the defensive end. He is what we thought he was going into the season - a technically very proficient player operating close to his career ceiling as a rookie.

Nice bit of diplomacy from Theis. He basically says that Kanter can do more on offense than he can, so Kanter should play with the reserves rather than the great scorers of the starting unit. :)

The media & fans have been telling us where too small but fail to do their research & realise how important Theis is to us, especially on the defensive end. The funny thing is if Theis was a measly 2 inches taller no one would be saying we have a problem at the 5.

They praised the Rockets, Morey, and D'Antoni after they gave up Capela and went "full small ball" not realizing we've been fielding a starting five of all-6'8"-and-under since start of the season lol. We've also been top 5 in both offense and defense. Rockets can't even crack top 10 in defense and are 15th in defensive rating since the Capela trade.
