At least the Pennsylvania one is more reasonable. It’s not like they turned down the Pirates or Phillies. They just saw no political upside to allowing the Jays to come in, but they didn’t turn down their home teams. Canada turned down the only baseball team they have, something I don’t expect them to do when the virus is still lingering 4 months from now with no vaccine and the Leafs want to travel in and out of the country.

If in four months we still have low caseloads and the US is a raging inferno, they would be insane to allow normal cross-border travel for the NHL teams, too. There are politics at play, but in large part that revolves around convincing the public to keep treating this seriously to prevent another wave from cresting, and waiving the rules for sports teams doesn't really serve that purpose.

It wouldn't surprise me that the NHL has a Canadian Division to start next year anyway.

Gotta get a team into the finals somehow.

My favourite part of the season so far, after 1.3 exhibition games, is just having a weird assumption that the Jays are going to hit some homeruns at some point and win the game.

If these same rules apply to the Leafs (and Raptors) in Nov/Dec, then I’ll stand corrected. Hockey is to Canada what the NFL is to the US, so politically it would not go over well if the NHL season started and the Leafs had to play in (insert random town in the US). You’re right the # of cases might be different four months from now, but then again, so might the political landscape in the US, so either way there will be underlying motivation.

@JeffPassan
Eight more players and two coaches with the Miami Marlins have tested positive for COVID-19, as an outbreak has spread throughout their clubhouse and brought the total of cases in recent days to at least 14, sources familiar with the situation tell me and

Wonder if people here still feel the government made a bad decision to not let the Blue Jays play here.
