The perfect "Kobe-Team"

Post#1 » by RxOne » Thu Jul 23, 2020 2:45 am

If you could build the perfect team around Kobe Bryant using all-time players, who would you choose?

Considering fit and flow of the offense, I'd have to start with players like Chauncey Billups and Kevin Garnett, I see them each like an OP version of Fisher and Odom, who Kobe had great success with.

Picking another wing and post player is more difficult because you don't really want to take the ball out of Kobe's hands, so I'd lean more toward defense, maybe Artest and Mutombo.

What do you guys think?

PG- Steph Curry

-Clearly, Steph is a superstar capable of accommodating other superstars. He did it with KD, so I believe he could do it with Kobe. Also the greatest shooter of all time.

SG- Kobe

SF- Shane Battier

- A 3 and D specialist with a very, very high IQ. Always at the right place at the right time. He would do exactly what Kobe needed him to do.

PF- Kevin Garnett

-Kobe has 5 rings. He would have had 6 if he played with KG. Enough said. I always wanted to see these 2 paired together.
(no knock on Pau Gasol)

C- Yao Ming

- Another quality center willing to accommodate a superstar. Yao's the type of guy who would have no problem playing the 5th option in on this team. Also a good rim protector.

Kobe... That is all.

He plays 1 on 5 and has no distractions.

How can anyone but Shaq be the perfect center for Kobe? Lol. Those two only dominated the world playing with each other.

I’d roll with

Kobe -Primary playmaker/ scorer

Klay Thompson -Knockdown shooter/ doesn’t need the ball in his hands. Expert at getting open.

Scottie pippin - lockdown defender anywhere on the court, beast in transition. Not a deadly shooter, but can run the offense while Kobe gets open In transition.

KG - quick, defensive anchor, expert help defender in the post. Doesn’t need the ball in his hand. Glue guy and killer personality.

Shaq or Kareem - toss up for me who would fit better next to Kobe. Shaq is just pure domination in the post, but Kareem is probably just as effective as Shaq, but with a personality that would probably fit better with Kobe. I’d take shaq, because it would be more fun ;)

Kidd, Kobe, Battier, Pau, Mutombo.

basically quality unselfish stars that wont botter him taking too many shots.

Mutombo, Mcgee
Grant,
Prince, Batier
Kobe,
Thompson, Fisher

Kobe would still get his 33-5-5 and same time win ships with this roster

I think it's an easy answer to say Shaq, but I think any team that has a prime Shaq effectively becomes Shaq's team. How do you not center your offense around the post with Shaq on your team?

I think Kobe actually fit better with a player like Pau in the post, which fed into Kobe's strengths. Plus, when Dwight came the LA the first time, Kobe wanted him to be the teams "Super Tyson Chandler", play D, get put-backs, set picks. I think a player like that fits best.

A couple people said Mutombo, who I think is at the lower tier of all time centers overall, but certainty at the top as far as skills Kobe coveted in a teammate.

Give Kobe Hakeem and I bet you won’t ask that question.

Battier is the perfect teammate for Kobe. The thing that elevates him over someone like Artest is the superior shooting splits. But I think guys with this skill set would give Kobe exactly what he needs, someone who will match his defensive intensity, and serve as a consistent release valve for Kobe to pass out of triple teams. ha.

I LOVE Billups in the back court with Kobe, tough Defense, play maker, and another guy who can take and make big shots when Kobe collapses the D.

Iggy... eh. He's Kobe-lite to me, rather have a bigger body at the 3 for defense so Kobe can conserve energy to run the offense.

O'neal
Rodman
Pippen
Kobe
klay thompson / curry ?

6th Man : KG

OK wins a 3-peat, perfect match when they both want to win
Rodman - Super defense & rebounding, extraordinary BBIQ to run the triangle. Not even want to shoot the ball.
Pipppen : Point forward, one of the best lock down defender in NBA history, Do everything fairly good to great
Klay / Curry : 3 pt threat to draw players out of the 3 pt line. leave room for Kobe to drive in and a target for inside out. Do not always need the ball to be effective. (Torn between these 2 since Klay can defend better while curry is better at running the point and bring the ball up)
KG - Extremely versatile and long. Can fill the small ball center or both forward position when any of Shaq, Rodman and Pippen rest. Excellent Offensive and Deffensive game. Match with Kobe very well according to their chemistry during all star games.

I wanted Billups as a Laker so bad.

PG: Chauncey
SG: Kobe
SF: Battier
PF: KG
C: Bynum

I'm also going somewhat realistic with this.

Could Kobe and T-Mac work? Like an offensive Kawhi and PG13?
