You guys pumped for the restart?

Post#1 » by flow » Thu Jul 30, 2020 7:23 pm

In the absence of the Pistons? I am. It's been a long 4.5 months. The fact the Pistons aren't playing is almost a relief more than anything.

Have to hand it to the League, they've done a great job with this bubble. Credit the players too, for buying in. Should be a fun 3 months of ball.

meh. I expect it is going to be train wreck. We've already got guy leaving the bubble to go to strip clubs. I also am imagining a couple big injuries since guys have been out so long.

Pumped would be a very strong word. Interested would be more apt.

Eh. Insert the obligatory stick in the mud reply here.

Got too much going on to give this much attention. I wish them success.

I give it a far, far better shot at success than the baseball reboot.

None of the other leagues' athletes were willing to give up their family/friends/lifestyle to go sit in a hotel for a few months. NBA really shows how impactful it can be to have enough tests to test people every other day and how you can find the cases, let people sit it out, and then bring them back once they are no longer a risk to anyone else. It's very much how some of these other countries have mostly shut this thing down.

That is true, but the period they have to sit out is roughly the length of a playoff series. If I miss 2 weeks of work, that's an inconvenience. If a star has to sit out the finals, we'll never hear the end of the conspiracy theories.

The quality of basketball has been pretty good despite the long lay-off. Really enjoying it so far.

Can't help but wish the Pistons were there. Pretty embarrassing we're not involved because of how bad we are.

Honestly glad they're not. So we can limp (literally) to be the 8th seed again and get destroyed by the even hungrier Bucks? Nah, I don't want anything to do with Giannis.

Plus, this may be the first time in like 20 or so years where we're relatively locked into a top 5-ish pick not counting the Darko miracle pick. And we didn't/couldn't shoot ourselves in the foot to get knocked out of the standings like that either.

Just talking in generalities my man, this franchise belongs in the top handful of teams in the league. Of course a top 5 pick is better for us right now than another ~8 seed finish.

To me, this season was done long ago, and this is just making it over-done, I guess.
This is some weird post-season novelty act, which given COVID-19 is the best we can have.
I'm much more interested in what the 2021 season will look like.

It's just nice to see some basketball where the outcome isn't a matter of history. Certainly isn't as good as normal, but better than nothing.

Man, big SCORING in the games so far. Took some time to watch part of Dallas/Houston- not much defense to be seen.

Yeah...I think expectation management will be key here. Will be interesting to see.

I'm digging it. No fans, no home cooking/home court advantage, no travel, no outside distractions for the players, no three ring circuses during timeouts. Just pure hoops. It's like an nba aau tournament. Good stuff.

Honestly the shutdown sort of killed my interest in this season. The most interesting thing for me right now has been the player made vlogs/behind the scenes look at the bubble.

Totally impressed with how the NBA is handling this. Best commissioner in sports and actually working well with the players. All good.

Also impressed with the bubble, regardless of the Lou Williams incident.

As for the basket, better than expected, but these are real just for warmups before the playoffs. And I'm excited about the playoffs - a lot of potential champs out there. Obviously Lakers, Clips and Bucks. But Miami, Boston and Toronto could do it in the East. And the West is just loaded.

And one last note - the arenas are cool with better camera angles and love the fans in the background :-)
