Re: 2020 NBA Draft Prospect Watch
Updating my list:
1. Ball (highest upside. Dad sucks but his size would be huge for us with Point Book also). That said, we won't get him.
2. Hayes
3. Vassell
4. Avdija
5. Haliburton
6. Toppin (I really like him as a player but even though he's a 4 I feel the fit for us is not ideal. He's used to be played through in the post, is not a good defender, and we need to be 4 out 1 in with Ayton, so I prefer playing small at the 4 with a more perimeter oriented guy. That's why I think the small ball lineup with Mikal and Oubre at the 3/4 works so well). He shoots the 3 well and CAN certainly play outside but I feel like his fit is not as clear as the guys above. I won't complain if we get him though.
Other guys I like and wouldn't mind trading back in for: Saddiq Bey, Josh Green, Grant Riller, Jalen Smith, Desmond Bane, Vernon Carey, Malachi Flynn, Kilian Tillie
Guys I'd want to look at in Summer League who may go undrafted: Corey Kispert, Skylar Mays, Myles Powell, Charles Bassey, Jon Teske, Ayo Dosonmu
Guys I want to avoid like the plague: Cole Anthony, Nico Mannion, Jaden McDaniels, Jordan Nwora

Solid list. Thoughts on Okongwu? I really like what he could potentially bring as a 4/5 combo.AtheJ415 wrote:Updating my list:

I don't know about their mock (though what is the point, really, before the lotto?), but I think tankathon's big board is pretty spot on: http://www.tankathon.com/big_board
I don't think anyone's mentioned Joel Ayayi around here. I need to go watch some Zags footage. I like his profile.... a PG/SG who can't be kept off the glass. Must be a pretty killer athlete.

He's pretty good, Definitely underrated as a defender, a decent quick twitch athlete but not elite! A decent playmaker with good size at 6'5. He's an above average rebounder. Think a slightly better shooting Frank Ntilikina. He'd definitely be a value pick in the mid to late 2nd. Honestly though, I really like Tyshon Alexander, The player you mentioned a while back. I figure IF we trade back for a point guard, And don't take Riller or Tyrell Terry, Then in the 2nd round or late 2nd, He's absolutely the most solid choice! We could do a whole lot worse than to get a Dejounte Murray/ De'Anthony Melton at that range.

And IF we lucked out and took Vassell at 10 and then Reed at 32 and then Alexander in the late 2nd, We take Alexander, Imagine how improved our 2nd unit defense could be?
1 st unit ( ALL OFFENSE)!!!
Rubio/ Booker/ Bridges/ Oubre/ Ayton.
2nd Unit ( ALL DEFENSE)!!!
Alexander/ Vassell/ Reed/ Cam/ Baynes?
And all players in the 2nd unit can still hit the 3 as well.
*** We still should definitely look at adding Sam Merrill with a late 2nd or on a two way contract as a 6th man microwave scorer for us!
You can't ask for better offensive and defensive depth than that at a minimal cost (rookie scale contracts).

His fit here has to be at the 4. Meaning it depends on if you believe he can become a capable handler and 3 point shooter. I like him as a 5 but find the fit for us lacking, at least relative to Avdija (clear fit) or Toppin (not ideal but still a good fit). I'd consider him if the draft fell such that all 6 of the guys I mentioned are gone

Okungwu did hit a few long range shots during his time at Chino hills. So perhaps he could have potential to expand his range more out to the three. And if his preferred position is actually the 5, Seeing as how Ayton is making progress with his ballhandling and now taking/ hitting threes, Then I'd again argue that we could consider Ayton interchangeable at the 4, And Okungwu at the 5. Ayton could play the role of a bigger, better defensive La Marcus Aldridge for us? I bring this up again, Because of his mobility, footwork, and developing face up game.
Just have them both patrolling the paint, and switching on pick n' rolls defensively.

Why I like the idea of a guy like Okongwu on this team is while I firmly believe the best way to play around Ayton is with small shooters I do realize there will be some matchups where defensively you will need more size so a guy like Okongwu could play SOME minutes with Ayton but then also serve as his primary backup.Ghost of Kleine wrote:AtheJ415 wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:Solid list. If you truly want to build a team that can not only make the playoffs but eventually win in the playoffs you need flexibility to play different styles vs different teams.

A better shooting version of Saric with Maxi Kleber defensive potential anyone???

Those percentages are awfully impressive honestly. And his defensive potential might definitely be worth taking a swing on?

I wouldn't be opposed to trading back. 2020 could be 2019 redux where bottom lotto = bottom first. I like Kira Lewis and I think Josh Green could be really good with a couple of years under Monty.

If you're talking AZ guys, what about Zeke? They were saying he's a good 3 pt shooter....he just never was coached to shoot it in college but now that he has been practicing them he has range. I love his energy.

He's definitely very intriguing as prospect. I really like his offensive potential, mobility, relentless rebounding too. But what kind of kills the interest for me a bit, Is his lack of shot blocking for his size and length. Maybe i'm missing something here? But given his size, agility, length, Shouldn't he be a much better defender/shot blocker

Any thoughts or opinions on considering this kid out of Ol' Miss for a late 2nd - undrafted option as a microwave scorer/ isolation scoring playmaker for us off the bench.
Breein Tyree-

He's got a knack for scoring. And is an a near elite athlete. I can see a little McCollum in him in how he moves, scores, his ability to get to the rim. IF we were to go big with our first round pick, it wouldn't be bad value at all to consider him or SAM MERRILL ( I know, I know) beating an drum on this one ! But we definitely need potent scoring off the bench. And this kid is yet another solid value option in an underrated depth filled draft. I also really like his elite explosiveness and moxy too!

He could definitely be a PJ Tucker/ Draymond Green type of post defender for us! Another really great depth option to consider! Especially as a consideration for an eventual Baynes replacement?

Nah. Should also get a proven lead ball handler on the second unit as well. I think Riller can really score the ball but I wouldn't trust him to run the second unit on his own.ImNotMcDiSwear wrote:jredsaz wrote:His FT rate is super exciting. I'm really hoping we use the #10 to trade back for multiple picks, because this roster needs at least three more young, unproven point guards.
Rubio/Payne/Riller/Jerome/Carter/Okobo/Dotson/Flynn
Booker/Lecque
Bridges/Johnson
Oubre
Ayton/Diallo
Perfect.

It's a shame we didn't get to see him ball out in the NCAA Tournament. He will probably fall into round 2 and will be a steal for somebody.
