I'm a huge basketball fan and I'm not tuning in for a scrimmage, especially when my team just won a championship. Most Canadians do not like basketball, and it's really the immigrant population that actually carries the fanbase.

Enjoy the games, and move on.

Pretty much this. I no longer have channels like tsn2 or sportsnet one so I had to stream the game last night. Most of my friends did the same. I'm sure that's the case for the majority of the younger demographic.

I was pleasantly surprised to find last night's game on CityTV. Rabbit Ears for the win.

How much of the fanbase has cable? Nearly EVERYONE I know 25-40 is a cable cutter.

I only found out hours after the fact. I think those preliminary games were poorly advertised, as it was always hard to find information about them. Box scores in particular.

CBC is free and trackable. Older crowd still has cable.

Streamers are generally younger and watch basketball. Not trackable.

Also I'd say that the younger Canadians generally like the Raptors and most of them don't watch cable TV anymore, but stream everything.

Older Canadians are still hockey fans.

I saw a guy yesterday, who couldn't make it to the next town, watering the cornfield.

Hockey ratings are a given considering how popular it is in this country. I think people underestimate how popular baseball is though. Maybe because there isn't as much overlap in demographics that like MLB and NBA (although I happen to like and watch both, so we exist). But people love watching baseball. The trend is the same in the states as well where MLB still has more viewers than NBA.

I'm, uh, older. But VPN + League Pass is my friend.

I hate this stereotype of basketball being the younger generation's game. I talk hoops with most of my professional peers. Hockey seems to attract more of a down-market crowd.

Yeah they just show up downtown and create a ruckus whenever the Raptors win something.

The suns game was on a Monday at 3pm... I didn’t even know it was on and couldn’t watch anyways. Probably the same with many

That’s mainly people from the gta that come to Jurassic park.

Whats is going on? we are still the champs

Three of the main reasons: vs suns pre season 3:00pm on a Monday. I'm sure the game vs Lakers was much better

If Raptors games and most of the other important matchups throughout the league were available on a reasonable TV format, I'd consider subscribing to conventional cable

Theres no way in hell I'm paying 100+ a month to get all 10 sports networks

Leafs rating benefit immensely by being on the CBC

This just made me realize that raps playoff games will likely be on at the same time as jays games. Hopefully sportsnet doesn't put them on sportsnet one and same with tsn putting them on tsn 2 for hockey.

not really the raptors were on cbc back in late 2000s and there ratings were bad, so bad that they had to boot em from cbc. Theres a reason for everything, if raptors can pull good ratings they will definitely be on the main channels every game.

Hockey is still the most popular sport. Local Leaf games on TSN do around 500k which is more than a Raptors game does cross Canada.

I mean maybe in 10-20 years we will see Raps and Leafs much closer but it will take consistent winning from Raps to get there. And yes more Raps fans generally stream since they are younger and either cant afford cable or dont want it.

Nm. I remember OP.

He only posts here to push the "hockey is way bigger than basketball narrative" and then leaves. During the playoffs last year he was silent when the raptors shattered records.

I didn’t catch the op until now, I’m surprised he hasn’t been banned tbh. He’s a weirdo hockey troll.
