Warriors TPE & FRP
Who’s the best player the warriors could get with their $17M TPE and 2020 FRP (top 5) pick?

I like Oubre and 10 if the pick is 4/5 post-lotto

If the Warriors are going to use their TPE — which I am not confident they do — the better play is to get a expiring filler contract that fits into TPE. Attach 2021 Wolves 2nd if needed for value.
Then Warriors won’t be limited by TPE restrictions and go after player that might be above TPE amount (if needed add other salary ballast too — which can’t be done with TPE).

I’m sure the Knicks would opt in to Bobby Portis’ contract rather then opt out and let him leave for nothing if they could get a 2nd for doing so.

You can have tony snell from Detroit. Not the best player, but I feel like he could fit with the warriors

I like that he allows Andrew Wiggins to be traded too.

I was reading in an other thread that 2019/20 salaries can be used in trade if no pick is involved. No idea if true. If so, Dieng is great fit. He becomes 17.2 for 20/21 season. Otherwise, I like Fournier. Even if 2020 or 2021 GSW FRP (protected) is needed. Fournier is 17Mil and if for some reason Warriors don’t want (or don’t find) to trade Fournier, he fills a need as well.

What pick number is it? Very different if it’s the #1 overall.

Expiring 19/20 contracts are over. And Portis option will not be picked. His next contract will be less than MLE. I would not be surprised if he gest less than 5M.

The problem with this is the gsw trading partner now has to take in extra ~17 mil worth of expiring contract vs straight salary dump, so that would decreases gsw's expected return by about a 1st rd pk.

So I think the answer is yes if the deal was done this season? Or am I mis-reading that?

And that goes both ways. GSW has to be ready to take on salary above and beyond Wiggins. Which lends to the fact I think they do not use TPE.

I'd rather not use the TPE at all than use it on Snell. I watched nearly every game of his career in Milwaukee. The difference between he and Glenn Robinson III is marginal and GRIII will be probably be available at the minimum or for less than the MLE this offseason. You can grow a player into a Snell role in the Warriors' system. There's really not any need to spend to get the real thing when the Snell costs more than $10 million a year.

I kind of figured. I feel like Detroit will try to swap him for a contract that ends in 2022 to add a draft pick.
Of course he could still opt out, which would be insane

Gross. I get that Bamba is an interesting prospect, but if we want a young big why not just pick Okungwu or Wiseman and not give up additional assets? We'd have them under contract longer as well.
