Why is it time to move on from Collins?
Collins is very limited and I don’t see much more upside to his game.

Did NeO really do his homework on Collins? In hindsight there were quite a few payers chosen after Collins who are multiple tiers better. In hindsight he had 3 picks in that draft and struck out on Collins and Swanigone. Totally mishandled that draft.

And why does Stotts / Neo have so much faith in Collins?

I think you're missing a lot on Collins. He is a very good defender, which is plenty reason to play him. He has developing 3 point range and some nifty footwork in the post. Lots of tools there to be a good player for a long time. He isn't ever going to be an All-Star but if you're looking for glue-guy type players then Collins is as good a modern big man as you will find.

Re: Why is it time to move on from Collins?
Collins, Dame, and GTJr are the only 3 players who have had positive +/- in both games in this restart. He's the 2nd best defender on the team, and an efficient scorer. He defers on offense because he's not needed to score. The Blazers have established scorers at just about every other position. He's not on a bottom feeder team where he's going to get to jack up shots. His job right now is to cover for the defensive deficiencies at the other positions, and he does a good job of that, along with adding efficient shooting. The only reason it would be time to move on from Collins is if it were in a package to bring in a star SF (not likely)

Re: Why is it time to move on from Collins?
this is the first time nurk & collins are playing together and they will need one or two full seasons to get it going, but i firmly believe they can be really good on both ends of the floor, especially on the defensive end
on offense, he will always be fourth of fifth option, shooting couple of threes per game and occasionally get ball on the block, given he has nice footwork and can develop some low post game
we might have something real in nurk & collins and you simply dont quit on that

The kid seems to always be in foul trouble and seems to fumble and drop the ball a lot. I don’t believe he can improve that much more than what we see today.

I would prefer that Collins get more aggressive on offense ( he was 3-3 yesterday) Just take away some of Carmelo's shots. With a good 3and D small forward Portland could have a well above average defense and a top tier offense led by Dame, CJ and Nurk. We just need to get some scoring from our forwards to keep defenses honest .

Take advantage on offense if the opposing team plays a smaller player at PF, like Boston did.

I actually can see Portland moving on from Collins if they can get a clear upgrade at either front court
spot. Imagine where this team would be if they had drafted Bam Adebayo over Collins.

I always said they drafted the wrong Collins. He was supposed to prove me wrong this season, then he got hurt in game 3 so it appears he'll need to prove me wrong next season.

I agree John would had been better but honestly at the time of the draft I wasn’t high on him. I actually liked Bam. But in retrospect NeO could had John Collins at 15, OG at 20 and Kuzma at 25.

But NeO missed at 10, 15, 20 and 25.

Thart's entirely the attitude Portland needs to adopt for they likely know a developed Zach
Collins is going to
be and given the extension he's likely going to ask for, Portland has to
wonder with the Dame/CJ extensions and a Nurk extension is going to look like, if he's
worth it.
If they can get a cost controlled front court player who will produce more than the 10-12 ppg
that Zach will bring, it would help Portland more in a long run. A player who can make the
open shots that come from teams concentrating on Dame/CJ/Nurk.

Zach is twenty-two years old and missed almost the entire season, which was his most important year so far. He's a good defender and he's got a lot of fight and is learning to shoot the three. Unless it's a clear upgrade, you don't move on from him.

I think going after Markannen is a clear upgrade.

Re: Why is it time to move on from Collins?
It's interesting that the same guy that loves TJ Warren wants to trade Zach Collins.
Sure, let's trade Zach Collins for a better defender who can guard Jayson Tatum at the 3-point line and recover to protect the rim. Who would that be? Ok, Anthony Davis or Giannis, anyone else? The list isn't very long, not to mention nobody trades players better than Collins. I would rather keep Collins and utilize the skills he adds to our team's capabilities.
