The gift and the curse he's been overweight since he came in the league. He's got the athleticism to make up for it now but as he ages he'll have to get it under control. He's young he's not going to take his weight seriously it's on the Pelicans. A good organization would say get in shape or they would trade him.

Re: Scout: Zion Williamson Moving Worse Than He Did In Summer League
All counter trolling aside, the issue is Zion needs to play, and he needs to play long, hard minutes. The Pelicans want to baby him like they did AD, and that helps neither Zion or the team.
He’s going to get tired, and he’s going to make rookie mistakes, but we’re substantially better with him on the court, and he’s never going to get into basketball shape if he doesn’t play real basketball minutes.

Looks fat and a shell of the player he used to be when at duke. But most concerning is he's looking like Trae Young on defense. Everyone got right by him while he's standing there. Jarren Jackson schooled the crap out of him several times during the Grizz vs Peli game.

He needs to get this conditioning and weight in order. Cause his weight has been and will be an issue for his career.

Or else it could get worse in the coming years. His potential to score the ball is still there. I just think we should temper our expectations of him on the defensive end.

So Zion is important and not just for the sake of the New Orleans Pelicans. The big question hanging over the league is whether he’s capable of shouldering it all. Dr. Brian Sutterer, of sports injury YouTube fame, has been watching intently and has his concerns. “He’s in a race against his own body,” Dr. Sutterer said over the phone. “If you go watch his Duke highlights compared to now, the difference is profound. In my opinion, his athleticism and conditioning have regressed substantially. He’s less explosive, less conditioned, slower on defense, has already had a portion of his meniscus removed from his knee after an injury, and he’s still under close monitoring from the medical staff.”
Fans might be responding to a different set of alarm bells than Dr. Sutterer was, given Williamson’s explosive production on Monday versus the Grizzlies. Williamson did not look especially quick, but still managed to bound for 23 points in 25 minutes. Even when compromised, he can collapse a defense, apparently.
Through all the immediate Twitter buzz over Zion’s run, Dr. Sutterer sees a troubling long term trend. “I feel like nobody really wants to call it like we all see it,” Dr. Sutterer said. “He’s trying to reverse a career trajectory that by the Pelicans’ own admission is worrisome as evidenced by his ‘reprogramming’ and scrutinized minutes. He had four months to start making positive strides and to me he’s regressed more. When will he finally start to reverse course? Will it be in time before more substantial fitness concerns and injuries limit him and threaten his career? Instead of outpacing these risks, I’m worried that Zion is losing the race.”

See, this has been a problem with Zion since highschool. People have always been concerned about his body. But his play at Duke put a lot of that to rest as he outperformed expectations. But he hasn't looked the same since entering the league IMO. Potential is still there obviously but for him to reach his ceiling he's gotta get a handle on things.

Can someone bump that thread where the guy was saying Zion would be a top 20 player in his 1st season

This has been the dead horse I have been beating since the start of bubble play. It seems like whenever he has a long break, whenever he comes back he seems to look even bigger, less conditioned, and less explosive. Im hating what looks to be a pattern that we are seeing with him.

I could have sworn there were reports a couple of weeks ago before the scrimmages there were reports that he had really gotten in great shape during the shutdown.
But the opposite is true, he got bigger?

It's insane how good he is while clearly not being nearly the athlete he was in college. I hope this doesn't get to his head. Easy for him to think his diet is fine when he's basically scoring at will.

No. No one on the Pels today has played good defense, that even includes Holiday. No one on the Pels decided to show up on that end today.

You don't reach top 20 status in 19 games. Lol at the "is." I don't know what you're looking at if you think he's a top 20 player right now.
