My sister, who is in suburban Chicago, says at her daughter's high school, it's being left up to the parents to decide whether to send their kids in, or do all on-line at home. And they won't have any lunch periods at school. On the other hand, her youngest daughter is in middle school, and they are having in school classes, AND having lunch period. Go figure.

A lot of schools in the Chicago burbs are changing things by the week. My daughter's HS announced hybrid plan 10 days ago and switched to full time remote today.

We're in full 'state of disaster' in Melbourne for the next 6 weeks. 8pm curfew, only allowed out once a day to shop and 1 hour of exercise, mandatory face masks.

Like everywhere, you have your minority of quacks calling it a dictatorship, telling you COVID's just the flu, etc., but the majority are cool with it.

It's not the end of the world (in saying that, I don't want to discount those in situations less fortunate than myself who may be doing it rough as a result, particularly if you own an affected business or such). I work from home (and for those laid off there are considerable payments being handed out to help support), I go out for a shoot or a run for an hour, it's boring and somewhat depressing, but we're just doing what we have to do.

The rest of the country is slowly opening back up, but we had an outbreak due to some bungled quarantine situation. It's straight up wiping through aged care atm. If it was a disproportional response I'm sure people would be up in arms, but it's warranted and much needed. Most of all, we saw New Zealand go straight into a similar lockdown at the start of this all and they've basically eradicated and are back to normal, so a lot of people wishing we did it at the onset.

For a bit of context though, we're up to roughly 150 deaths total in the state (6 mil pop) over this whole thing... so you can imagine what Victorian's/Australian's think when they look over to the US and see it so open with far, far more of a spread.

Yes, what we're doing is a bit insane- and with a president who keeps saying how great a job he's done fighting it. NZ is a great success story.

2 months more and there will be vaccine out there. If we could hold till now we can hold a little more.

You are awfully optimistic. They may have a vaccine by then but they won't have enough mass produced to do anything. We have another year of two of dealing with this.

I think the companies that are in stage three vaccine trials are already starting to produce the drug in mass quantities anticipating it will pass. The USA has already bought over a billion dollars worth of potential doses. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/science/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker.html
Losing to get high draft picks and hoping they turn into franchise players is not some next level, genius move. That's what teams want to happen in any rebuild/tank or whatever you want to market it as.

For those who continue to carry water for this administration. Here's another example of their sociopathy literally leading to dead Americans:
How Jared Kushner’s Secret Testing Plan “Went Poof Into Thin Air”

Most troubling of all, perhaps, was a sentiment the expert said a member of Kushner’s team expressed: that because the virus had hit blue states hardest, a national plan was unnecessary and would not make sense politically. “The political folks believed that because it was going to be relegated to Democratic states, that they could blame those governors, and that would be an effective political strategy,” said the expert.

Some schools opened up today. Saw some pictures of ultra crowded hallways with a tiny percentage of kids wearing masks.

I fear for the future. Some of these kids' parents and grandparents will die. Hell some of the kids will die.

All we needed to do was a bona fide shutdown for 2 months. We settled for half measures. Then let up on those half measures too quick and are now settling for what, quarter measures? You think it's out of hand now? It'll only get worse. We're going to lose another couple hundred thousand American lives at least.

I haven't let my elderly parents leave the house since March.
I miss my family (brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins). This is the longest stretch I haven't seen them perhaps ever. Looking like it'll be at least another year before I get to see them the way things are going.

I hear you. My father is 96 and my mom 86, and I'm wondering when I'll ever be able to see them again. I hate not being able to see them, but also don't want to do anything that might put them at risk. It's hard on them, too, being isolated, not seeing family. I hope they find a solution for this soon. It would be great if they developed some way of detecting if you are infected immediately, so as soon as you are done traveling, you could be cleared within hours or a day at most. I wouldn't mind quarantining a day to go visit them, but I can't afford to spend two weeks in a hotel.

That's unbelievable that kids in school don't wear masks. Seriously? What could possibly be the thinking behind that? At my niece's school, they are not allowing lunch periods, because it would require kids to take off their masks.

This is where a national mandate would really help. Just mandate everyone, not matter how old, has to wear a mask at all times indoors. Period.

So sad. My daughter is only in pre school and they have a lot of precautions in place, but I'm unbelievably proud of her for being only one of like 2 kids out of 10-12 in her class that wears a mask.

With the way the US has treated and continue to treat this pandemic they should be last in line for a vaccine.

God damn Cardinals have to miss another game tonight. Cards/Cubs games are my favorite thing to watch in sports. I'm **** pissed.

I wish we were simply forced to forfeit and the players and staff not receive pay for the weekend. **** you guys. You did this to yourselves. They're going to give some cockamamie statement about how a sole player tested independently of our previous group of morons, and blah blah blah we're gonna be Super Super Safe You Guys We Promise This Time.

I would have been fine, albeit cranky, if the Cards continued to just look like disappointing mediocrity all season - all the personnel issues I've been harping on for years are coming to a head (Dexter **** Fowler who I said was a mistake the moment he signed, etc). Throwing on "The Second Dumbest Team in Baseball" is not a look I want to see for team I love.

Yeah, it's frustrating. I'm a Cubs fan and have been looking forward to this weekend for a while now. It's a shame.

Strange times.

This past weekend I Made my 3rd trip in planes since this started, total of 8 flights now.

Different animal this trip, 99.9% masks in the terminals and in flight.

Spacing...was terrible in the terminal and flights were around 80% full. When snacks and drinks are served 250 people all remove their masks over a short period of time.

Given the quantity of people i saw walking around, and the situation in the food courts, it would make some peeps very uncomfortable.
