He’s not in the league yet, but Jalen Green already deserves a mention. Dude had had my jaw on the floor with his speed, and at 6’6” he’s gonna be a terror in a couple years

I was just telling someone that Rose lost his explosion... now he's only as athletic as prime Tony Parker

Amazing

I always think this. To me I kinda create levels.

1. Bad athlete—D. Lo

2. Decent/Good athlete—Steph

3. Very Good Athlete—Dame

4. Elite Athlete—John Wall, Eric Bledsoe, Baron Davis

5. GOAT Athletes—Westbrook, MJ, Bron

D. Rose is still in between very good and elite for me. His quickness and speed are still amazing.

This is actually the first thing that came to my mind. Austin's first step is elite.

Wade and Ai and probably young Rose are the best I’ve ever seen.

Must have been the blinding green knits.

Kawhi isnt playing defense against anyone wearing a wolves jersey.

haha love the jokes, and jokes are needed to explain how great this little unknown player is and how badly he wupped the Clippers.

Actually I believe McLaughlin (JMac as some of us call him) was making mincemeat out of who was originally defending him and all of a sudden we saw Kawhi placed specifically on him to slow him down. Never happened. Later after this Kawhi was no longer anywhere near him. They might have took him off the court later after this, the game was getting so out of reach.

For a little context, the two teams play two times in the span of 6 days. JMac was a depth bench player the first go around on Feb 2, and got the start at point on Feb 8th (this game). You can find videos online of the postgame interview of Kawhi and PG of the first game, Feb 2(Clippers win- first game PG was back) But I doubt you will find a video of them talking about the slaughtering that took place Feb 8th. None of them want to admit how destroyed they were that day by an undrafted first year playing 5-11 point guard. He is quick, fearless and skilled and as good as we know Kawhi is he had nothing he could do/say about it.

I've shat on him for years, glad he's no longer on my team as to not talk about him much, so no.

He's on my 2nd favorite team, I got a feeling he will look for revenge in a potential series against the clips

Nice that people mentioned Rivers, definitely a lightning quick first step, just not the best as whatever comes next. His finishing has improved a lot compared to his earlier days though.

Derrick Rose should be mentioned for sure.

I'd throw Prime Wade in the list as well.

Tony Parker might be the fastest player I've ever seen, when he was young.

Very fast with the ball end to end, though I don't seem to have too much memory of him really attacking with his first step.

Young Melo had an incredible first step. So does James Harden. Kevin Johnson. Young LeBron was incredible too, let’s not forget about him.

I don’t remember Penny having an particularly quick first step. Maybe it’s the memory of watching him play against the Bulls elite defense that skews my view but as far as I can remember he would not really break down the defense off his acceleration but he was more of a flow player when he wasn’t running in transition (where he was electrifying).

Here’s a quick first step from Penny 2:23!

Yea, it's kinda crazy. If we ask which players in the league are more athletic than post injury Rose, all those guys people would name would be great athletes. When you start so high in your athleticism that becoming less athletic still means you are more athletic than the majority of players at your position, you were quite the athlete.
