The surefire way is for two teams to pass Memphis in the standings so they fall to 10th in the West.

The other way is if they lose in the play-in tournament as either the 8th seed (MEM has twice-to-beat advantage) or the 9th seed (MEM has to beat team X twice to make playoffs).

Hmm alright. Sounds tough but possible, anyway. That Portland loss last night really stunk.

Denver with just about no chance to catch us now. We're a game-and-a-half up, and their last three games are against LAL, LAC, and TOR. So our own pick is pretty much set at 26-27.

Last remaining drama is the MEM pick.

If Portland beats Simmons-less, Embiid-less PHI tonight, and we beat MEM next game, POR and MEM will be tied, with two games left for POR and 3 for MEM. MEM has the tie-breaker due to conference record, and cannot lose that tie-breaker in the games that remain. So POR must pass them outright.

They both have 2 remaining games and there's a real possibility they swap positions which leaves us in a spot that has the blazers needing to only beat the grizzlies once

And there's still a chance the suns, spurs and kings can pass grizzlies too.

You're right, two remaining games each. I was double-counting today's TOR game for MEM.

I was about to say "I consider it more likely than not that POR passes MEM at this point", until I looked and saw POR nursing a 4pt lead over Simmons-less, Embiid-less PHI. So now I'm just not going to say anything at all...

I do not consider there to be a decent chance anyone other than POR passes MEM. One problem is that MEM's final game of the season is against MIL, who will have absolutely nothing to play for.

Yea, I checked in and they were up 11 and now its a game.

I still like the blazers chances to run off two straight against the grizzlies in what is essentially a 3 game playoffs down 1 game to 0.

But I'd love it if they had that game in hand. Here's to hoping.

So if I'm reading it correctly, if memphis loses both games against the celtics and bucks, then the blazers only need to beat the mavs or nets to move into the 8th slot.

We can't ask for much more here people, griz already dropped all but 1 game.

I'm rooting for the spurs to be in there at the end. Let the streak continue. .

If Suns or Grizzlies make the playoffs, Brad Stevens would have the most consecutive postseason appearances by a head coach with six straight.

Pop first made the playoffs when he was 49. Made 22 straight.
Stevens first made the playoffs before turning 39. So if Tatum is the real deal, stays healthy, and doesn't leave the franchise, Brad could potentially match that. ;) Got to win a couple of titles or 5 though to keep his job.

I’m just hoping we draft a dude named Williams.

We just might. Patrick Williams, a forward.

That’s who I’m thinking of. Seems like an Ainge pick. Probably goes before we pick, Bu man we need a lot more 6’7 guys.

MEM 33-38: BOS, MIL.
POR 33-39: DAL, BKN.
PHO 31-39: OKC, PHI, DAL.
SAS 31-38 HOU, UTA

Anyone have a link to tiebreakers on the 9th spot? If we take care of business and POR/PHO win out, POR will be 8 at 35-59 and PHO/MEM tied at 34-39.

Suns have to win out AND Grizzlies have to lose out. MEM holds tiebreaker over them.

Only tie-breakers likely to come into play:

1.) head to head record
2.) division winner
3.) division record (if in same division)
4.) conference record

MEM has the conference record tie-breaker over POR and cannot lose it due to too few intra-conference games remaining.
MEM has the head-to-head record tie-breaker over PHO, and cannot lose it due to no head-to-head games remaining.
SAS has the division record tie-breaker over MEM, and cannot lose it due to too few intra-division games remaining.

So POR and PHO need to beat MEM's record outright to pass them. SAS only needs to tie.
Of course, POR and SAS can't tie exactly anyway due to different number of games played, so I don't know why I just did that...

At this point I'm not pinning any hope on PHO or SAS. Just need POR to pass MEM and beat them in the play-in.

I'm betting on Portland to pas Mem. I also don't think Mem can beat Port once, much less twice, assuming they are the 9th seed and Port is the 8th.
So if Mem is beaten out of the playoff by Portland, that means they will confer the 14th pick to us? (assuming their record is worse than Orl and Brk)

That DAL game is a tough one for Portland, but that last BRK game with the Nets locked into their seed is very winnable. I expect BOS to beat MEM since the C's are still trying to ramp up Kembas minutes and seem likely to play their starters. That last game against MIL will be interesting since MIL will be resting their guys. But honestly their bench may be able to beat MEM.

PHO has to win out, but that may be possible. OKC is resting a lot of their guys today. PHI has not been very good in the bubble. DAL will probably rest everyone in the last game.
