Trade Down
What if the stones get #2 pick in the draft and Ball is there but they like Hayes and Haliburton (Which I think one will be the pick anyways) over Ball. So they explore a trade down option what could they get.
Minnesota as a lotto pick and #17 and #33
Knicks have lotto and #27
If we take a deal to trade down for a pick and draft Hayes or Haliburton Who would you like to see us get later in the draft?

This is a shallow draft. There won't be much notable talent available at #17. The odds are against finding a long-term rotation player at #27 even in a deep draft.
If the Pistons trade down, I'd be looking for a promising young talent or a future first-round pick.

This.
And I really don't see someone trading promising young talent for anyone in this draft; so it would have to be a future first. My hope would be that some dumb GM would undervalue the future first since it hasn't materialized into an actual player yet. We've had a few GMs here in the last decade that have done that...

If we wind up 5,6 or lower I wouldn’t mind trading down. But it depends on what we get back

Re: Trade Down
Given what’s available in this draft and I don’t see why anyone would be rushing to trade up, and if they did and they’re smart, they sure as hell would only be offering picks in this draft in return.

What, you don't think a first-round draft pick (AND a player who could've garnered another first-round pick on the trade market) was a fair exchange for an awful contract that the Clippers wanted to dump? Outrageous!
Though the trade would have been awful in any event, I've got to think that Van Gundy could have negotiated the price down quite a bit had he taken the time to do so (by all accounts, there were no other suitors for Griffin) but wanted to get the deal done as soon as possible so that he could begin the hoped-for playoff push that would save his job.
And, of course, there's the pick that Dumars moved alongside Gordon's contract so that he could obtain cap space that would be used in an effort to save his own job. He subsequently spent that space by handing Josh Smith the most lucrative contract in team history.

Re: Trade Down
If we luck into #2, they should just pick BPA on their big board. If that is Ball, so be it. Depth is pretty overrated in a rebuild. Just concentrate on getting a few foundational young players to build around, because almost everyone else is going to be off the roster by the time we compete again.

Re: Trade Down
If they get the top 2 pick they need to not overthink and get whoevers there between ball and edwards. This team is not in the position to get cute and try to be the smartest ones in the room.
We already saw how pick 30 turned into a failure by them overthinking

Simons is a beast from what I've seen, Isn't that selling high on your part? Id take that any day

I'm really high on Onyoku as our PF of the future. We have a $7.1 million TPE, MLE and BAE, as well as some other assets with which to acquire win now pieces. Given Lillard's window I'd rather have Dragic or some other veteran with the BAE getting back-up PG minutes than Simons.

Gary trent took simons shine. His value has definitely diminished and the number two pick is better than this trade imo.

No way. Simons has potential, but he did not do well at all in his first season with significant minutes. I definitely don't think he's a franchise changer. And the #16 pick in this season's draft isn't very valuable. Nor will be the non-lottery pick the Blazers will probably draw next season.

I'd rather have #2 than Simons, 16 and a unknown POR 2021 pick.
Given Portland are looking for win-now pieces I can see them offering a similar package for a vet.

Hate to disappoint you but right now the Pistons are penciled in at #5, not 2Pharaoh wrote:I'd rather have #2 than Simons, 16 and a unknown POR 2021 pick.

Is it possible VI isn’t familiar with the lottery?

I'm not sure about that, I think in the upcoming draft there are more unknowns then normal, and good players who would have came on during the tournament will drop and the sample size of the players projected at the top is small. I think we will see more of a spread out of the talent per draft position. I think we will see more overdrafts at the top and more underdrafts at the bottom.

I agree with you. This draft isn’t deep. Moving out of the lotto and adding two non lotto picks makes no sense. I’m not high on Simons as I don’t see him more than a solid to good bench rotational or average starter. I’d rather take a risk on Ball, Edwards, or Wiseman in the top three. Higher upside. We need upside in a rebuild.
