Re: New Head Coach Mega Thread
I’m sitting here trying to figure out whether the absence of Boylen or Gar makes me happier. It isn’t going well. Gar was odious over the long run, but Boylen packed in so much garbage so quickly. This might be an all-nighter people.

I don’t know enough about past teams reaching out to him, but has Coach K said he will never leave Duke?

This is sad for the previous posters here who died during the last 10 years.

Keep coach K away from this team. He's an arrogant ahole that rarely succeeds with the best talent.

Curious, I know coaching ability and talent development are the focus, but do we also want a coach we think star players want to play for?

I really think it will end up being Ime Udoka. He’s been one of those guys on the bubble for the last few years and has a solid resume as an assistant coach. Seems to have solid relationships with players also. I think his connection with Marc Eversley in Philly and Nigerian connection will put him in the driver’s seat.

Those are good reasons, but it's worth noting that Darvin Ham has also been a guy on the bubble and has a bit wider experience and has a ton of experience with Arturus in Denver (much longer than Eversley and Udoka connected in Philly).

If the team isn't good, it won't matter. I want a coach who gets us there first. Kyrie and KD didn't want to play for Atkinson, but they were intrigued by the talent relative to a team that had two max spots open. They just got rid of the coach.

All I can say in the search is, in AK I trust.
We likely won't hear anything about who they are interviewing despite media speculation. But AK will do his due diligence and make the right choice for this team.

David Joerger
Kenny Atkinson
Not that I'm super excited about these guys.
There's Stan Van Gundy too.
Just don't let him make the draft picks.

Please no rookie coach

I will pass on those retreads.

Yup those two Joerger and Atkinson are my top picks. I don’t see it happening though.dougthonus wrote:OnlyTheOneAndOnly wrote:well this is the current pool of available coaches with previous experience:

Dude is 73. If he would not leave Duke to coach the Lakers and Mamba, he's not going to leave Duke for the Bulls.

I don't necessarily want a rookie coach but that is still preferably to a retread who has proven to be mediocre at best.

I'd really like them to take a look at Joerger and have him on the list.

Re: New Head Coach Mega Thread
I don't really know who would be the best among the options but I sure wouldn't want Lue, Kidd or Jackson coaching the Bulls. I also don't think an established HC would go here because we don't really have a strong roster that would attract an established coach.

Re: New Head Coach Mega Thread
I found the blowhard Stephen A Smith's comments where he denigrated the Chicago Bulls franchise & advised all coaches to not go there to be irresponsible, biased & flies in the face of all of the major changes they have made & are making. I doubt if he actually has seen 1 Bulls game in the last 5 years. Stephen A needs to STFU, he isn't in the least bit qualified to say squat about the situation in Chicago and is using his platform as a bully pulpit to denigrate an NBA franchise.

Thibs just went to the Knicks...
I don't think "established" coaches wouldn't want to come to the Bulls, but I'm not sure if there is one out there right now that I would want. Atkinson is probably the only one (if he counts as established already).

Re: New Head Coach Mega Thread
I also don't want a retread (like SVG types) and I don't have really strong opinions on the assistant coaches of the league but I do just kind of trust these guys to bring in a bunch of assistants and find someone they agree with. I also think they will look at international coaching as AK has a really strong international background so it wouldn't shock me if he has a deep understanding of international coaches because of his experience there so I could see him going that route. I wouldn't mind that either I like the way a lot of those teams play basketball and the new school NBA kind of looks like the difference between the old school NBA and international ball so I think that is a great untapped resource for coaches.
