Re: 2020 Draft Thread
yup, there's no way we would have gotten a better offer for DLo. The previous offseason the only teams showing interest in him were the Wolves and Suns, then the Suns signed Rubio. Not to mention his stock probably dropped while playing for us considering his atrocious defending.

I don't think any team other than the TWolves had interest in DLo. Now that they are for sale who knows if they would have traded for him in the offseason. I think Wiggins value will only increase by playing with the Warriors.
The only way it increases is if he shows he can average an efficient 20ppg while being an all-defensive guy that guards 1-5 in small ball line-ups. Him and Siakam are on the same deal with his ending 1 year earlier and he is 1 year younger than Siakam and Siakam is averaging 17 on 39/36/71 in the bubble and no one is complaining which is insane, If it was Wiggins they would ask for his head and everyone is saying Siakam isn't a 1st option in a champ team and he gets a pass for his shortcomings and say his contract is worth it while if Wiggins averages 20 ppg on around 54% TS% he now doesn't love basketball.
Well you could say he was picked #1 while Siakam was #27 but difference is he really hasn't had a good team and coach around him. Siakam got into a winning team and good developmental system since almost day 1 and it was really the Raps bringing Nick Nurse that truly unlocked him. I believe Kerr and Warriors culture is going to have an impact in Wiggins and even though he is a sever downgrade from KD in terms of offense he is still a young, athletic long wing similar to Siakam that can be a great complementary piece. We just need that starting C to certify a shampionship
Also I think after next year Raps will regret that contract

Warriors open to trading down but not too far.
Why would this appeal to the Warriors? How many championships has Harden won with a high-usage, shot-chucking, foul-hunting style of play that alienates fans of other teams, including Warriors fans?
I'm not saying Edwards would be a bad pick for the Warriors but if they drafted him thinking that he would play like Harden for them, you would really have to question the judgement of the front office.
If they draft him because they believed that they could develop him to be high-efficency scorer who'd also use his athletic ability to be a good defender as well as play within the team framework, then it would be a defensible choice.
I mean, superstars don't grow on trees. No front office is ever going to be like "We can draft this guy who we think has Giannis potential, but you know... let's draft this other guy who could maybe be an OK role player for us since we'd rather have the next Kawhi instead of the next Giannis." If you think there's superstar potential there, you take the guy every time.
If Edwards ends up on a track to stardom, he'll arrive after Steph, Klay, and Draymond are gone (at least in terms of being superstar, system-defining talents), at which point if you're competent organization you recalibrate your approach to the talent you have or can acquire. If you try and hold out for the next Steph, Klay, and Draymond core so you can play the exact same brand of basketball, you'll be waiting forever.
Also, re: "How many championships has Harden won with a high-usage, shot-chucking, foul-hunting style of play that alienates fans of other teams, including Warriors fans?" I mean, he was 2 quarters of a game 7 away from knocking out the best team in the league (and one of the GOATs) without his co-star. I'm no Harden / Rockets fan -- I hope OKC beats the pants off them in the bubble -- but I don't see how one can see how close they came that year against such incredible opposition and imply that it's an inherently non-winning brand of basketball. It's not the most efficient way to win, and it's unlikely you'll be able to bulldoze your way to the Finals like the way we did in 2017, but it's a viable strategy if you have the talent to fuel it.

I don’t understand why people keep trying to trade Wiggins. We have no wings and people want to trade a 6’8” wing that has a 7’ ws, can avg 20 if needed and has the tools to be a disruptive defender. He avg over a blk and stl a game for us.

Warriors use Knicks as part of a three way deal to move Wiggins for another player they would prefer.
Why would the Warriors offer 1 and Wiggins for just #5? Or are you suggesting the Warriors want to throw away the salary slot they worked so hard to get? Then they trade Wiggins again?

I agree. Nothing has really changed from the start of the season ... the Warriors would happily overpay to steal a superstar, but they know that's incredibly unlikely so they are trying to make the best deal they can for themselves as they go. I think Wiggins and the Wolves 1st is better for now and the future of the Warriors than DLo still being on the roster.

Re: 2020 Draft Thread
Yeah I don't see the point in trading Wiggins, if or when Giannis or Beal become available at that point of course we will put an offer on the table. But these aren't imminent situations like when a star player demands out.
I have been on the Wiseman train for a while now, and he fills a position of need. But watching that Portland vs Nets game made me realize that it could be tough getting perimeter depth. Portland's backcourt of course played great offensively and the guys on the interior are pretty solid defensively with Collins, Whiteside, and Nurkic. But it was just an insanely tough and exhausted battle for Portland because they had no perimeter depth, guys were running on fumes and could barely hold it together defensively. I kept looking at that Portland bench and they had nobody to come in to give guys a breather. So I see the appeal in Edwards, the guys creative with the ball and explosive in the Oladipo mold. When games turn like the Nets vs Portland had then a guy like Edwards could be really useful. The Lakers were just passable on the perimeter when they had Bradley, now it's rough. Even LeBron wants to score and defend on the inside, he is not chasing defensively.
The Nets on the other hand if they can keep that group together will be brutal to defend. I also don't think the defense will be bad because they will have two 7 footers on the court with KD + Jordan/Allen most of the game and even Prince is solid for a forward on D. I know the main board would erupt with anger but the Nets are winning the East next year bearing injuries.
The Rockets on the other hand imo have the 2nd best chance of winning the West, which has been the case for years now. One thing is they are getting Gordon back who is a pretty great 3rd option, so because of that injury I think they are better than some think.

Wiseman has the ability or at least the potential to get his on shots though against other bigs which also indicate he would be a terror in mismatches. Either Wiseman or Edwards won't be a bad pick but they are the only picks in the top 10 I would like. If we can't get either I think getting more assets + a guy in the mid 1st would be ideal because he would be able to help almost right away (even if Toppin/Okongwu/Hali/Vassel might as well)

Portland needs to get rid of Stotts. When the nets were trapping dame at half court that should’ve left nurkic with mismatches in the post rather than using him as an outlet passing to open 3 point shooters.

I've got Edwards 5th on my top-5 list of guys I want the Warriors to draft. He's got great physical attributes and an ideal guard skill set. The only thing I don't know is how he'll handle Kerr benching him and Draymond yelling at him when he switches late and misses assignments on defense. Because he will inevitably do that, he's not had to defend at an NBA level yet. If he pouts and becomes withdrawn and eventually want to be traded picking him will have been a disaster.
I've got Wiseman 3rd on my top-5 list because he's got the ability to be an AD type player, a forward's game in a center's body but he something about him seems mentally fragile to me, not sure why.
Other than Wiseman and Edwards I've got Williams, Avdija and Saddiq Bey on my list, all of whom are big bodied forwards with guard games and skills. We have nobody behind Wiggins and we're not going to find high quality depth in FA or through trades, those guys don't become available unless they demand to be traded or are offered a king's ransom for.

Re: 2020 Draft Thread
I don't really have a super strong opinion this year, just not enough info on too many guys.
I can see the appeal of Wiseman, Edwards, Avdija, Vassell, Bey, Williams, Ball and on and on, but every one of them has unanswerable questions for us fans.
Wiseman - size, blocking, some shooting, some flashes of feel for the game
Edwards - scoring game, body
Avdija - feel for the game, size, shooting
Vassell - shooting, defense
Bey - size, shooting, defense potential
Williams - size, defense potential
Ball - passing, vision
But I can make a list with issues and weaknesses for each too.

Re: 2020 Draft Thread
Seems there are questions about the motor or heart when it comes to Wiseman and Edwards.
They have the talent but they will often let the defense off the hook by taking bad shots.
Well there are players like that in the NBA, very talented but will take jump shots instead of attacking and maybe not always playing 100%.
Embiid could be considered an example, every talented but not always fit and will take too many 3s in many games.

I'm no longer getting my hopes up on Wiseman.
Kerr will always prefer center by committee. I just get the feeling he and Myers don't think they need to invest a top 5 pick on a center.

Lord I hope you’re wrong.
My hope is that Kerr hasn’t had a great center yet, other than Bogut, who had mobility issues. Wiseman is an athlete and has awesome length. If you want to contend for Chips, you have to have length all over the floor. Not just at the wings.

I'd be willing to bet that, given the chance, they'll take Wiseman. As I think most teams would.

Kerr values size, he just values BBIQ more. I generally agree with him too. I do wonder if Wiseman will interview well enough, and if they do take him, don't expect 25-30 minutes a game because he will make a ton of mental mistakes and Kerr can't stand them.

Well, no one knows, of course, but if they do luck into Wiseman, I still expect Chriss to start and Wiseman to learn the ways of the NBA as the season progresses. Rookie centers have a lot to learn in the NBA.

Re: 2020 Draft Thread
The Warriors have done 90% of their draft prep already, including Skype/zoom with players, including Wiseman.
I watched both a Woj interview, and another with Mike Schmidt from ESPN, and I get the feeling Wiseman is a student of the game, and also a guy who is willing to admit mistakes. I don’t see a huge ego, or any negatives that would scare teams away.
I see a kid willing to listen and learn. A kid with amazing measurables. And a kid working on many facets of his game, including non traditional big man training. To me, he’s going to be much more than a rim runner or plodder. I see great athlete with an ever expanding game.

Re: 2020 Draft Thread

I watched both a Woj interview, and another with Mike Schmidt from ESPN, and I get the feeling Wiseman is a student of the game, and also a guy who is willing to admit mistakes. I don’t see a huge ego, or any negatives that would scare teams away.
I see a kid willing to listen and learn. A kid with amazing measurables. And a kid working on many facets of his game, including non traditional big man training. To me, he’s going to be much more than a rim runner or plodder. I see great athlete with an ever expanding game.
I saw the same pieces. It's in Schmidt's and Woj's self interest to make the players look good in the questions and the edit, so I take them with a big grain of salt. Kerr said he hadn't talked to Wiseman, don't know if that means anything or not.
