Re: Democratic Primary Thread: The Deuce
I think the Lincoln Project also wants to remove the Senators who have enabled trump. When Trump and the Republican majority are gone, they probably want to elect the usual conservative Republicans of yesteryear. Given how politics has changed, they are now called moderates or slightly left of center.
In 2 years we will have our constitution reinstated and we can work on getting some real progressives into the House and Senate.

Hopefully the times we live in will force us to reevaluate our priorities. I would just add that over the last 40 years the conservative right has pulled “the center” way over to their side so that even so-called moderate Republicans (and centrist Democrats) are clearly on the side of staunch pre-Reagan Republicans. You’d have to go all the way back to Eisenhower to find a reasonable one imo.

If he’s not going to legalize it, Biden needs to at least take marijuana off of the list schedule I narcotics so that those on Medicare can have access medical marijuana.

in boxing it's said that "to be the champ, you've got to beat the champ." in other words, it's not enough to just be the next guy up. earn it. biden's "not trump" strategy has no chance. i was a bill clinton democrat, viscerally hated bush, voted for obama, and even i expect not only a landslide win for trump this year but a historical rebuke of leftist/globalist ideology. post-WWII liberalism is in its death throes. love trump or hate him, he's a phenomenon and a political weapon of mass destruction. by the time he's finished he'll have ruined china, europe, mainstream media and the DNC and have given birth to a new, multipolar global political order. it's really incredible to witness - the "great triggering."
he's also proof that the forces of nationalism and de-globalization are far, far too strong to be stopped now, which is only right considering the globalist trade deals that have ruined working people were handed down by decree by political leaders, not determined by vote. the american people never agreed to export their middle class so a billion chinese could move out of poverty. the "hope and change" we were promised in 2008 turned out to be a cynical scam as we were instead handed by far the worst wealth and income inequality of the last 200 years to go with a heavy dose of regressive tribalism and racial division. in truth, the real political energy on BOTH sides is populist now - bernie and trump are two sides of the same coin. once people get past their emotions (to the degree that's even possible) long enough to see through the kabuki theatre it becomes fairly clear that america is actually getting back on track in big-picture matters after 16 years of arguably the two worst presidents of our history. you guys should be happier.
I have no control over Biden's strategy. However, I do have control over MY vote.
I said what I said. I'd vote for a piece of dryer lint over Donald Trump!!

The DNC is already pushing the false narrative that Biden’s instincts to reach across the aisle is what propelled him in the primary (LOL) and this notion that Americans don’t yet know about Biden’s strong empathy for others ... as exhibited by his support of the credit card industry over people, or the crime bill, or his desire to cut Medicare and Social Security on more than one occasion. Empathy? FOH

I don’t think he did. It’s a republican solution to a republican problem. The republicans have been trying to torpedo and privatize the post office and replace them with fed ex and ups for a long time now. We are witnessing the culmination of that effort. How else are we supposed to interpret that? Ya’ll are getting played by the Lincoln project goons. It’s a very insidious plot, they step in and save the day and suddenly nobody needs the post office anymore. Just realize what is actually happening here
Wait do you even bother to do research before you write your responses? I’m guessing you didn’t bother to look at the tweet that the Lincoln Project quoted. It wasn’t proposed by a Republican it was proposed by a former Clinton cabinet member. And it was less of a formal proposal than a suggestion to a problem. It’s questionable whether it’s even legal but you’re distracting from the fact that Sam Seder was completely disingenuous in his interpretation. Yes the Lincoln Project Republicans, and once Trump is out of office I expect them to continue to be *gasp* Republicans. But the only thing that matters is getting Trump the **** out of office and retaking the Senate, Democrats should take the help of anyone who’s committed to that goal. That’s the only thing that matters. It’s like you’d rather Biden lose so you can say I told you so than win and cleanse toxic Republican Party.
His concerns are absolutely valid and you are just reluctant to acknowledge it for whatever reason. I'm not even saying don't do it, but if they do, keep your eyes open at the underlying agenda of it all. If they pull it off, they will absolutely use that as another excuse to undermine the postal service, because they succeeded and the post office failed. This has been a scheme that's been going on for decades, long before Trump. If you want to bury your head in the sand to it you can choose to do that. But I am obligated to tell people what's going on. Saying I want Biden to lose because I'm pointing this out is disingenuous in your interpretation of what I said.
There are a couple things to clear up. The idea of Fedex proving free delivery of ballots wasn’t a policy but an idea floated by a Democrat (because you know Trump is trying to destroy Democracy). The Lincoln Party twitter account retweeted it. Sam Seder used a fairly innocuous retweet to claim that the Lincoln Project has some nefarious plan to cozy up to Democrats to privatize the post office. Again this wasn’t policy just an offhand retweet. As opposed to the Republicans in power right now who are trying to privatize and destroy the post office right now? The Lincoln Project are trying to get Democrats elected in all 3 houses of Congress I imagine it would be harder to privatize the post office with Democrats in power

- Sam's take wasn't stupid just because people disagree with the premise that they've personally assigned to his single vague tweet. Dismantling the USPS isn't some new phenomenon and Sam's likely pointing to the fact that the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act's exaggerated pension demands have played a role in the USPS' financial outlook. So they were part of the team that pushed legislation which helped to create the conditions for Trump to do what he did and now they're co-signing a strategy that continues the undermining of the USPS as a solution to the problem that they helped create.
- It's also not disingenuous to point out who the Lincoln Project staffers are or to point out the potential long term ramifications of this strategy which may or may not be successful short term. Honestly, I haven't heard it detailed beyond a tweet to really even consider whether it makes sense. I also don't know how realistic a suggestion from a "the companies will really do this at no cost" perspective. I feel like both sides of the argument are injecting a crap ton of speculation into their interpretations of the tweets.
- But I also think this fervor to defend the Lincoln Project is weird as hell. I'll say this over and over, these people aren't necessary to beat Trump. They weren't even necessary to make that suggestion of a solution. They represent a very slim minority of the modern Republican party. Their "winning" hasn't manifested itself in 12 years and their own party has moved on from them. I'm alright with saying "they can't hurt the chances to beat Trump" but this is some extra ish.
- As a sidenote: I'd actually be curious for Sam to expand on his 200 or so characters comment too. I have skepticism and frustrations about the Lincoln Project but I can't assign my own skepticism to that tweet. I can only speculate.
I don’t think it’s defending the Lincoln Project in as much as saying “hey let’s take all of the help we can get to send Trump packing”. You may not need them to win, but if they can help run up the score it will absolutely be **** huge. There needs to be a strong rebuke of Trump, he needs to be humiliated and the same with the Republicans in the Senate and House. Lincoln Project can absolutely help with that. I compare it to Superman and Lex Luthor being enemies but teaming up together to beat Darkseid (Trump) a potential world ending global threat. Sure you know Lex Luthor is an **** and once Darkseid is defeated he’ll go back to trying to kill Superman but you have to address the problem in front of you first. I wish there was a Lincoln Project in 2016. Hillary would be President right now and the country wouldn’t be a complete and utter **** show.

Trump narrowing the gap with Biden in the latest poll.
In case anybody thinks they can screw around with Biden and he will still easily beat Trump, this article shows that is not a good idea.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/16/politics/cnn-poll-biden-trump-august/index.html
Let's not count our chickens before they hatch. Take away 1-2% of the vote from voter suppression, and we have 4 more years of hell.

Overall, 50% of registered voters back the Biden-Harris ticket, while 46% say they support Trump and Pence, right at the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points...
Across 15 battleground states, the survey finds Biden has the backing of 49% of registered voters, while Trump lands at 48%.

Good we dont need voters staying home cuz they assume a blowout. The after convention bump should throw even more of a scare into them.

When are dems gonna realize that reaching across the aisles is a fools errand? Its pretty much why the republicans are so damn obstinate when they get in power. They know that the dems want to make a deal.

I understand what you're saying. That it was merely a suggestion to a problem and not a policy. And just a one-off thing that could help. But what I'm getting at here and what Sam could have elaborated more on, is that there could be long term ramifications when it comes to the public perception of these entities as a result of this action. If you once again look at the original tweet that they quoted, what is says is "You'll overnight become the most beloved and respected organization in America". Their agenda has never changed. Take over government agencies and public services. Sabotage them and run them to the ground with incompetence. Use that as evidence that the government doesn't work, and then dismantle or privatize these agencies. With the USPS they have been chipping away for years. Now keep in mind, these companies and their PACs have historically favored the GOP and the majority of their campaign contributions go to them. Bringing up that it was floated by a Democrat doesn't make much a difference, because a bad idea is a bad idea no matter what party the person who floats it belongs to. I'm not saying the person who floated it was driven by an insidious motive themselves. But rest assured the Lincoln Project is. They are using this opportunity to plant neocon seeds in people's heads and to see exactly how far right we're willing to lean in order to win. All of this aside it's not even legal and isn't going to happen anyway.

It's what they've also wanted to do with Social Security and Medicare. Reagan said it for them "Government is the problem." It's been their mantra ever since.

I know. I hate to bring this up during a kumbayah moment like this but we had a 90% marginal tax rate on the top Level income earners back then. The middle class was the backbone of America back then (with also a big push from the G.I. Bill which raise the income level of middle class workers).
