Re: Around The League News And Rumors (Non-Braves)
Brutal loss by Philly last night to Baltimore. The 2 plays that lost it for them were a dropped high pop-up in the middle of the infield with the bases loaded in the top of the 9th (which they came back from) and giving up an inside the park 2-run homer in the 10th when their CF dove for the catch and instead let it get by him (which they almost came back from) - losing 10-9. It's a talented team, but their bullpen is awful, and their defense is what really killed them last night.

Re: Around The League News And Rumors (Non-Braves)
Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports that the Phillies are in "active" talks with the Red Sox to acquire Brandon Workman.
It confirms a previous report from Ken Rosenthal and Matt Gelb of The Athletic. It sounds like a trade could be close to being completed, with "multiple players" involved in the deal, per Salisbury. Workman would presumably slide into the closer role for the Phillies, while Matt Barnes would seem to be in line to take over the ninth for the Red Sox.

Stephen Strasburg has been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome in his right hand.
Nationals manager Dave Martinez said that the team is still coming up with a plan to address the ailment. Season-ending surgery is one possibility. Strasburg has been limited to just two starts this season because of the injury.

Re: Around The League News And Rumors (Non-Braves)
The Nats are being sneaky smart by losing big - once it became clear they weren't that good this year. MLB is basing the 2021 draft on the 2020 records - https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/09/2021-draft-order-highly-likely-to-be-based-on-2020-win-loss-record.html. Right now, that'd give them the 5th pick in the draft. Boston's doing the same - they're set now at #4. Then again, the draft is often a crapshoot, so it might not end up meaning much. And often the best prospects are international players - who are not eligible for the draft.

Josh Donaldson is not on the Twins ALWC series roster. This short season, really didn't go well for him after the big contract. He played in 26 games due to injuries, batting .222 with 6 HRs and 11 RBI.

Odds are the Braves play the Marlins in the next round. Amazing.

NY losing the series against Tamp surprised me. I realize Tampa is good but I thought the Yankees would advance.
Houston vs Tampa will be very good like most of the postseason series have been to this point.

Re: Around The League News And Rumors (Non-Braves)
The MLBPA lists Ryan Braun as a free agent.
Braun's contract either called for a $15 million mutual option for 2021, or a $4 million buyout. Unsurprisingly, it appears the Brewers have decided for the latter. The soon to be 37-year-old hit just .233/.281/.488 in 39 games while dealing injuries to his back and finger. It seems plausible that Milwaukee could have interest in Braun at a significantly lowered rate, but it's also possible that the former MVP will either be playing with a new club in 2021 or possibly decide to retire.

Re: Around The League News And Rumors (Non-Braves)
USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Indians "intend to trade" Francisco Lindor this offseason.
Nightengale cites his source as "several rival teams." Lindor projects to command about $21 million in 2021 via salary arbitration and is currently set to become a free agent leading into 2022. Cleveland is looking to cut costs this winter -- see the Brad Hand move -- and will want to get a sizable package of talent in return for Lindor before he inches too close to the open market. The 26-year-old shortstop is a career .285/.346/.488 hitter and has averaged 29 home runs and 21 stolen bases for every 162 games played through his first six major league seasons. He's won two Gold Gloves and been named an American League All-Star four times.

TONY LA RUSSAMGR, CHICAGO WHITE SOX
ESPN's Jeff Passan and Paula Levine report that new White Sox manager Tony La Russa was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after he allegedly ran his car into a curb in the Phoenix area in February.
The charges weren't officially filed in Maricopa County Court until October 28, one day before La Russa was hired by the White Sox, which is why this news is just now coming to light. A spokesman for the White Sox told ESPN that the club was aware of the incident but would not comment further "at this time ... because it is an active case." Reached by phone on Monday night, La Russa told ESPN, "I have nothing to say," and hung up. It's the second known DUI for the 76-year-old Hall of Fame manager, who was arrested in Jupiter, Florida back in 2007 after falling asleep at a traffic light near the Cardinals' spring training facility.

Re: Around The League News And Rumors (Non-Braves)
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand cites "a number of rival executives around the league" who believe the Cubs "will move a number of players in the coming months."
Kris Bryant and Javier Baez are the names mentioned most frequently by these execs, per Feinsand, but Kyle Schwarber and Anthony Rizzo are set to become free agents after the 2021 season as well, and Willson Contreras is headed for free agency after 2022. “They are open to all kinds of stuff,” one NL executive said. "They aren’t a group afraid to make big moves." It could be an offseason of tough decision-making for Jed Hoyer, who became the Cubs' front office head this week with Theo Epstein announcing his resignation.
