I like Kenny Atkinson quite a bit for this job, has a strong history with Chris Fleming as well.

Just not sure Atkinson has enough of a track record of success. I mean he would be a step up from Boylen, but how much remains to be seen.

What he accomplished in Brooklyn, with no draft picks, was tremendous. You could tell the younger players on the team were upset when Atkinson was let go, but superstars have that kind of voice and rumors abound that Kyrie didn't want him as a head coach.

What he did in Brooklyn is okay. I mean his win percentage is 38%.

That team had no talent and he built a culture and developed castoffs to a 42 win team. It's damned impressive.

Re: New Head Coach Mega Thread
Exactly, judging from the job he did in Brooklyn,Atkinson is actually the perfect candidate for the bulls. Atkinson did great with player development, made his team play hard every night and play as a team and most importantly got them to over achieve by making the playoffs. Isn’t this exactly what the bulls need right now ?Truebiscuit wrote:Jcool0 wrote:Truebiscuit wrote:

Those other assistant coaches might do a good job too but Atkinson is a safe pick since he has proven that he can do the job right and he’s available. For me he should be the top choice along with Joerger who has also proven his worth as a coach in this league. Haven’t heard anything about Joerger though yet so I’m guessing AK doesn’t want him.If that’s the case Atkinson should be the new coach.

What he managed to accomplish in Brooklyn is nothing short of amazing with that team having a bleak outlook and none of their own picks.

He clashes with every FO. It's not going to happen.

Re: New Head Coach Mega Thread
He knows how to develop players and get them to buy in. Spencer Dinwiddie said Atkinson let him learn how to be an NBA player by giving him a bit of a leash and allowing him to make mistakes. He said not having to look over his shoulder after a mistake made all the difference in the world.
Atkinson would find a way to make Lauri and Zach happy offensively, I would imagine Coby White as well. That is the best possible scenario for our franchise right now, then see if we can lure in a big fish in 2021.

Atkinson is growing on me. What he was able to do with DeAngelo Russell and Spencer Dinwiddie was something good. Our young core has a lot of potential so if we get it right we could see an upgrade in play next season.

Kyrie and KD wouldn’t play for him. Do we know why? Is there speculation?

Kyrie/KD are two of the biggest divas in the game. Nobody in the Celts organization liked playing with Kyrie. KD is wanting power. The fact that they wanted him fired only makes me like Atkinson even more as crazy as that sounds. It is because he is not going to cave to primadonna players. Prior to this year, Atkinson had that team playing hardcore ball as a team. I'm not saying he is my first choice, but goodness there are not many players that are harder to get along with than those 2 and especially Kyrie.

Re: New Head Coach Mega Thread
The only thing about Atkinson that worries me is that he doesn't like the midrange 2, which is something Zach complained about in the past regarding Boylen.

Shouldn't really be a concern because by now Zach has to understand that he is more efficient when he takes more 3s or gets to the rim instead of shooting long 2s. That is not to say that the midrange jumper should be some kind of forbidden shot under all circumstances, which it kind of was under Boylen (I guess that was Zach's problem with it), but Atkinson had no issue with Russell going to it a lot.

Re: New Head Coach Mega Thread
I just don't see how someone could like Atkinson over SVG.
Establish a good culture - SVG can do that
Develop players - SVG can do that
Win games - SVG can do that.....jury's still out on Atkinson

When you say "in here" do you mean this board or do you have insider info into the FO?

Unseld Jr, Vanterpool, Griffin, and Ham would all be solid choices. Atkinson would be an absolute knock out of the park. Udoka would be another step in the wrong direction.

They wanted a coach who they viewed as better able to relate to them. Similar to how LeBron wanted Lue over Blatt.

Jacking up shots you don't really like taking is not more efficient than taking comfortable range shots that you can make in your sleep.
This is the type of logic that says Giannis and Embiid should put up more 3's to space the floor.
If a player is good at mid range shots and comfortable with it then you allow them to take them.

SVG is Skiles, he comes in, changes the culture and wears out his welcome real quick. He also leaves a bad taste in former players mouths and gets called out for bad coaching decisions by them. the SVG love is akin to Joerger. Nonsensical.
