They are getting smacked in the mouth again by a mediocre team.
Fat Gary can't do anything else other than hit the occasional HR. At least he made up for his run-inducing error.

The Rays play as a team and play fundamental baseball they are better managed and better coached they work the counts and make contact they dont try to swing for the fences. They dont have any stars they just simply play as a team and are hungrier then the Yankees.
Yankees all they do is swing for the fences. Management goes by what a binder and a computer says, their soft.

Thats this lineup in a nutshell can hit hrs to make it interesting, but when the game is on the line against good pitching they can't come thru, once again Voit doesn't protect the plate on a 3-2 count.

Allowed 2 hits and a run, but his fastball topped out at 101. 2 straight sweeps for the Yanks.
Rays is the team I'm worried about. They're not far behind us for the top of ALE
The Yankees are the team I'm worried about.

The lineup is badly missing DJ and Judge.

Rays been spanking us lately and this loss just proves my point. Rays are an all around good team. Defense, speed, pitching, contact, power. Yankees are great in 2 of those areas, power and solid pitching, not elite starting pitching though.

Looking forward to the pitching options at the trade deadline on the 31st. If there's one spot we need to improve, it's our starting rotation... badly.
There's absolutely no trust in Paxton & Happ, especially Happ.

maybe the stats are not showing the whole picture, but the yanks as a team have a higher batting average, lower strikeouts, higher obp.

yea for now mainly because of DJ and Judge on a 20 game sample size, but we seen last year Rays does the little things to win.

Re: New York Yankees Thread
The big thing is the Rays dont beat themselves and the Yankees do that goes a long way not that mistakes won't happen but the Yankees seem to make a habit of it every game.

Re: New York Yankees Thread
Rays probably have the best manager in baseball, better coaching overall and better scouting and are better at situational baseball. They work the counts drive runs in with RISP it doesn't matter who on their team is up to bat or pitching. Also replacing Girardi with Boone managing against Kevin Cash doesn't help. I blame Cashman more then I blame Boone btw, this is what he wanted I think Girardi wouldnt picked up a thing or 2 against the Rays, Boone just sits there chewing his gum and does nothing.
Even with Cole pitching they hit his mistake pitches, and in innings they dont score they are getting men on base it all added up to him not being able to get through 7 which meant Britton throwing more pitches (who will go on the DL btw not official yet). In the game the Rays lost they didnt allow Cole to pitch 5 innings which meant Chad Green had to throw multiple innings and that had an effect the next 2 games where Green was unavailable. Its all the little things that add up. Ya on paper Yankees are better but the eye test is telling you the Rays are the better team.
Yankees are just very frustrating to watch, they constantly make mistakes and it will cost you against good teams and the Rays see this on film and have capitalized on it.

And yet they've won 0 World Series for all their analytical brilliance.

Re: New York Yankees Thread
Our SP is Cole and not much else. Half our lineup is on IL. This is why we are struggling against the Ray's. It isn't rocket science. Tanaka/Paxton/Happ have all been trash. Monty has been ok. Severino/German are not pitching. Our BP has more wins than the Tanaka/Happ/Paxton trio. These guys have been getting rocked. Boone isn't a genius by any stretch though. Gardy/Sanchez hitting mid .100s isn't a good look in the same lineup.
Mostly...our SP has been trash and our lineup is decimated by injuries and we aren't seeing the same "next man up" success we had a year ago.

Sounds like the Yankees are the worst team in baseball.
Hmm. 3rd best record in all of baseball even after they just dropped 2 in a row.

At least we know if the Knicks ever get good, we can count on some fans to b*tch constantly about them.

So your satisfied with just making the playoffs. Sure they look great against weaker teams but their flaws are showing and will get exposed against better teams. I’m just calling it like it is.
