Yes. I would do that in a heartbeat. I love this deal.

Not sure on Ibaka, he would be a great fit for now, but I think we need to plan for further down the road as well as now.

My thing with Ibaka was that if we pursue Aaron Gordon for PF, we need to get a stretch 5 to balance it out. Don’t think it would work with him if we don’t get a legit floor spacing 5. But if we do get that floor spacing 5 I think he would really maximize his potential here.

Yeah, I get the logic there. Just not sure that Ibaka is the guy, I mean he works, but is he an upgrade over Theis at this point? The draft alone can address the need for a 3andD center imo, and then the top choice for me would be to target Bryant from Washington.
40% from 3 this season on 2 per game while also grabbing 7 boards and swatting 1 shot per game in only 25 minutes and is only 23 years old. Also a very solid passer, is quick in transition and only has a 9 million dollar a year contract.

Only reason I think Washington considers moving him is they have Wagner and a reportedly very high on him.

I wouldn't mind taking a flier on Bryant because we know Stevens works wonders with big men on defense, but he is one of the worst defensive players in the game. Would not want to give up much value for him. I also don't trust the draft for a 3&D center in '20-21. Maybe down the line but don't anticipate a rookie stepping in right away. If one emerges, then great. But it's not something I'm going to incorporate into any offseason plan at that spot.

For me it wasn't so much "Ibaka is an upgrade" as much as it was just style. Just wanted a strong defender that's ashooting threat next to Gordon. I think Ibaka is the best of the most available big men for that.

A 4-team Haywrd trade I posted for feedback in the trades/transactions forum:

DAL gives: G Tim Hardaway Jr., G Delon Wright, #18 pick, F Justin Jackson
DAL gets: F Gordon Hayward

Spoiler:
Why: They consolidate into a very legit 3rd option behind Luka/Porzingis who doesn't need the ball but can handle it as needed. Good fit in their multiple ball handler scheme who can both knock down open shots and create for others. He'd make their already impressive offense even more dynamic. Salary wise, he is a great backup plan if they don't strike gold in FA next year. If they do strike gold, they've cleared some salary with Wright.

LAL gives: G/F Danny Green
LAL gets: G Tim Hardaway Jr., F Justin Jackson, #27 pick

Why: The Lakers don't have any offense outside of Lebron/AD and Kuzma occasionally. Green is a great defender, but THJ is a better offensive contributor. He's adjusted well to the shots Luka gets for him - the same ones Lebron would get. Jackson adds some forward depth and they get a 1st to try and move up for a young rotation player, packaged with their own.

ATL gives: fake 2nd rounder
ATL gets: G Delon Wright

Why: Atlanta picks up a nice defensive backup PG that they need on a relatively cheap, multi-year contract. They lock in a solid piece at good cost certainty for free. They have plenty of cap space and this checks one need off the list at low cost.

BOS gives: F Gordon Hayward
BOS gets: G/F Danny Green, #18 pick

Why: Boston sheds almost $20M in this deal. That's enough to still use the FULL mid-level exception and stay below the tax, assuming it stays flat to this year, give or take. They also add #18 to go with projected #14. Packaged with their '21 pick, I think that could get us into the top 10 to hopefully add another young core piece.

To expand on our end of it...

In order to use the full MLE we'd need to follow up with a Kanter dump. #30 and Kanter to POR for #42 (they have a trade exception to fit him in). Waive and stretch Poirier, trade with 2nd rounder attached if needed. Play with the numbers.

Package #14, #18 and our '21 1st if needed to move into the top 7/8 and land another young core piece.

Use the MLE to bolster the big man rotation with some size (I like Derrick Favors a lot).

I think I would rather Hardaway Jr and a tax payer MLE to Danny Green personally.

Well, Green actually makes a couple million less than Hardaway. So it's not THJ + MLE vs Green + MLE. The MLE is there in both cases.

What about using detroit as the 3rd team instead.

Hayward, Edwards and #30 to Dallas

Wright, Hardaway, #26 and #31 to Detroit

Rose, Kennard #18 to Boston.

Why? Dallas we are beating to death
Detroit gets athletic, defense and scoring. Hardaway will play great off of Griffin, Wright will start at PG for them (a Casey pick/player who he really loves)

Boston adds scoring and shooting off the bench who can start if players are injured. Also free up alot of salary allowing for FULL mle usage on a stretch big. Woods maybe? Own picks 14, 18

Kemba/Rose
Brown/Smart
Tatum/Kennard
Woods/Grant W
Theis/Kanter/TImelord

After the Lakers are eliminated, Hayward and five first round draft choices (3 this year, swap rights next year, unprotected first in 2022) for LeBron James, who will be 38 at the end of his current deal.

If we preserve max cap space when Kemba expires, like I've been putting in my plans, then we would target one of Embiid or Jokic in that offseason.

My Barnes ones from last page does that since he lines up with Kemba. End up with Barnes, #12, small amount of room under the tax. Other trade options.

Spoiler:
Non-Dallas one that accomplishes similar goals:

BOS: Hayward, Kanter, #30 for Barnes, #12
SAC: Barnes, Bjelicia, #12 for Wiggins, #1 (GSW 20), #30
GSW: Wiggins, #1 for Hayward, Bjelicia (into TPE), Kanter

GSW reloads. Pays tax galore.
SAC is probably iffiest. But, they get #1 and Wiggins. Maybe they send Corey Joseph into GSW TPE instead of Bjelicia?

* Not positive it’s legal to use the TPE in the same trade. I think so, since it’s different players, but I always have to look that one up.

We duck the tax and upgrade to #12. Barnes could be serviceable and his contract is moveable and aligns with Kemba. And decreases annually.

Kemba, Jaylen, Tatum, Barnes, Theis
Smart, Romeo, Grant, Timelord
Edwards, 12, 14, 26, Poirier

We'd be ~$130M - Just a vet min under the tax with 14 guys. Could leave it open, sign a vet, keep Semi/Wanamaker/Green or some or 2nd rounders, etc. Ro do more deals with the free up space, consolidate picks, etc.

Options:
You could possibly still do Barnes, 14 for A Gordon and free up just about ~$10M to use the non-taxpayer MLE.
Then sign Ibaka and end up in the same place with 12/26/Gordon/Ibaka. Favors would be another option for MLE.

I think getting draft compensation out of SAC is aggressive. Particularly because they're onto a new GM. Seems unlikely they'll be pressured into trading picks for a win-now piece like Hayward.

I do like the idea of Barnes as he fits this team well alongside the starters. 3&D and keeps the financials in tact as you noted. I also LOVE Bjelica as a stretch 5 here. If SAC wants to shed long-term money, but also make modest improvement in '20-21, how about Hayward for Barnes+Bjelica. Those two make about $29.4M, but since we're adding two good rotation players for 1 I think we can make the financials work to get under the tax if we do (a) follow-up(s) deal to dump Kanter/Poirier.

Walker / Smart / Edwards
Brown / Langford
Tatum / Ojeleye
Barnes / G Williams
Theis / Bjelica / R Williams

Plus the 1st round picks we have left after salary dump deals and Waters or Fall depending on how things shake out. I think it'd be possible to get under the tax with that.

Once again it'd be shaky wing depth but after we get under the tax, the following 2 years we can be aggressive with trades and MLE signings. Just keep everything within the Kemba/Barnes window except for extending Smart. Then you reset with a max FA around Tatum/Brown/Smart and go from there.

SAC ends up with GSW #1 pick (and Wiggins) in my deal. Hayward goes to GSW, along with Bjelicia and Kanter.
I agree SAC wants no part of Hayward.
But GSW would be a monster with those 3. Assuming everyone comes back healthy.

I wonder what the players and coach will think after the season about a Hayward trade. That's something to consider as he is close to Brad.

Except Gordon, most of the names mentioned here don't sound too great. What about just trading him to a team with lost of cap space for a cheap player or 2 and a future pick or two?

Yuck.

Danny Green is toast and we have zero need for another mid round pick.

If we move Hayward it will be Hayward Plus Assets to consolidate and it should be for 4/5. Theis is a solid big but clearly the weakest starter on our team.

I don't think GSW does that. That's why I routed Bjelicia & Kanter to them in my version. Even getting rid of Wiggins, it's a lot to give up #1 for Hayward alone.

Then you basically followed on with the Barnes/pick for A Gordon. But with a way worse pick than I used. :)

Green is in decline but don't think he's toast. He'd help here on a rotation basis. I agree we don't need another mid 1st but it's a tool to move up from where we are now.

If we try to move Gordon Hayward on a bloated, expiring deal that sheds enough salary to get under the luxury tax then we're not going to have great options. It's not going to be a return that excites us basketball wise. Basketball wise the smart thing to do is just keeping Hayward. We won't get a talent upgrade for him. But if the financial implications of that aren't good in the post-COVID world, then we just have to salvage whatever value we can get, which isn't going to be a ton. It's not that Hayward is a bad player, but his huge salary, lack of long term clarity for his new team, and the fact that he's just very good as opposed to GREAT is going to make a deal tough to swing.

I like these ideas here. I think Hayward to SAC to help with a playoff push but shed long term money of Barnes makes sense.

I think Barnes makes sense in ORL for Gordon because he's a little more versatile in terms of guys he can fit with.

Here's my spin on it:

BOS gives: F Gordon Hayward
BOS gets: F Aaron Gordon, F/C Nemanja Bjelica

ORL gives: F Aaron Gordon
ORL gets: F Harrison Barnes

SAC gives: F Harrison Barnes, F/C Nemanja Bjelica
SAC gets: F Gordon Hayward

Why for ORL: Like I said above, they swap Gordon for a more diverse fit in Barnes. His shooting makes him a better fit with Fultz/Issac but he still brings good defense.

Why for SAC: They shed lots of money over the long haul, but in the process of doing so they upgrade their talent for next year. One beat reporter predicted they'd just decline Bjeleica at $7.3M because the money matters so I think they'd love the long term savings.

Why for us: We save about $9M in this deal to duck the tax. Turn Hayward into a new, well-fitting front court pairing on both ends. We'd need a follow up deal to dump Kanter and Poirier but we have extra picks for that. We won't have enough money to use the full MEL but we can lock in a vet or two for more than the minimum.

Kemba / Smart / Edwards
Brown / Langford
Tatum / Ojelye
Gordon / G Williams
Bjelica / Theis / R Williams

Because of Bjelica's shooting you can actually play bigger with him alongside Theis as matchups call for it too. I think this is a good way to salvage basketball value if we have to move Hayward for money reasons.
