Outside of that, our books look immense (Wright is likely movable on that 8m deal)

Kleber, DFS and Curry locked in for a combined 20m per is outstanding work. That's 3 guys who can be top 7 or 8 players on a championship roster for 20m.

If we can keep those 3, dump the rest and pick up a max free agent, that leaves us 6 quality guys deep and just looking at filling gaps with exceptions, draft picks and minimums.

We did overpay Powell, but he is not a garbage player. Powell pre-injury is an impactful player and key rotation player of a winning team. His defense is respectable. We just need to hope he can resume majority of his athleticism and further develop his jumpshot abilities.

Torrey Craig, anyone?

I think Denver has to face tough decision. The Mavs could manage to get a 3D player. If the Mavs is able to unload one of Powell or Wright, there's a good chance to get either Jerami Grant or Torrey Craig.

Agree about the Powell signing and to some extent the Wright signing. Generally speaking, and this is what Teffer was getting at I think, but you don’t want to pay your 8th and 9th players chunks of your salary cap. They basically fall into those slots now and combine for 19-million in 2021 offseason. Without those two, we could do some serious damage.

He’s 28 years old and shoots 32% from 3. I don’t know where he fits with this team. Pass.

Reddick for Wright, Jackson & Brunson possibly with future 2nd, anyone? The Mavs gets an expiring elite shooter in Reddick and plan for 2021 without giving up much. Nop op gets younger with decent 2nd unit PG. As Reddick is 38 yo coming off the contract, the Mavs could immediately renounce JJ to go all in in the FA market 2021.

I already get ready to rid of Brunson along with Powell and pencil in Burke as 2nd unit PG. From the bubble, Burke's speed and natural shooting is what the Mavs actually need. Not for Brunson posting up or going one-on-one every time. The 2nd unit offense is chaotic. Brunson just plays like SG instead of PG alongside Wright. I don't want either to run 2nd unit offense anymore. Not to mention, Brunson couldn't play decent defense despite all efforts. As much as I like JJ, I think Barea is close to retirement. JJ is not moving every well this season especially in the bubble. This is the same sign, just like Powell does, that JJ's close to retirement. Unable to run and jump, the role for JJ onward is limited as a player. If Burke signs elsewhere, I expect the Mavs to reach out to Yogi or maybe DJ Augustin who're on expiring contract and will not getting much from FA market. The Mavs does need another playmaker who can penetrate and shoot.

Boston fan coming in peace.

What do you all think of this proposal?

Hardaway Jr, Wright and your 2020 first
for
Hayward, (1 of Edwards, Poirier) and Boston's first?

You get a secondary playmaker putting up fantastic number in Boston in that role. Also he is a very smart, vet player who will not disrupt things with Luka and KP and company. you are gaining 17.5, 6.7 and 4.1 with very good defense and excellent shooting splits of 50% and 38%.

Why would Boston trade him you ask? Money.

I think the Mavs make out like bandits here and likely have to add at least the #31 pick to make it more appealing... and even then, I still think the Mavs get the better end of the deal

It’s a good proposal. Which 1st is coming to Dallas... #13? Or one of the picks in the 20s?

I am a THJ fan — He’s the right 4th option next to Luka/KP (see JR Smith’s role). He’s a willing defender and if he guards the other teams 3rd wing option, he’s fine. His LT fit on this team makes sense.

Hayward is a better player but he can’t stay healthy and he’s 2-yrs older. Both concern me, and make me feel this is a rushed move for our timeline.

Pending the pick, I’d pass though I think plenty of Mavs fans would accept it.

I don't understand this for Boston
they want to win now and Hayward is the best player here
They have a selection at # 14
and they eat 1 year of Delon OK,
let's do it

If you mean Boston future 1st, the Mavs will pause and see what's left by the draft position first. Unless Powell instead of Wright is there, I may not part with 2020 1st. I think the Mavs need an upgrade over DFS. Many options are available in 2020 draft. By the way, Hayward is done from the playoff. I don't think Hayward is actually better than Hardaway in 2021.

If you mean 14th pick this season, I'm all in. If you mean 26 or 30, I'll only consider it if there's no appealing 3D prospect at 18. I may consider it if it is both 26 and 30.

I agree I don’t see this for Boston? THJ is not the right fit.

But, another reason I don’t like swapping Hayward for THJ is around resigning him. I could be ignorant here but I think Dallas has an easier time retaining THJ at a more reasonable price. He’d be 2.5 years into being in this org and he seems to love KP and Luka. And he’s had his best year alongside them, and could be on a contender for the next 4-yrs.

Hayward would have 1-yr with no allegiance to Dallas — we may have to overpay or he may just not want to stay.

When thinking of trading THJ, this is an important factor for me. Again, I like his LT fit in Dallas.

Not true. Knicks fans try so hard to convince themselves, even now, that they won the trade

That said, I’d rather make that same offer for Dennis Smith than Kevin Knox. I expect DSJ would have to come back humbled after being so terrible in New York... There’s a chance he could still be decent

From what I discovered, NYK fans want to rid of Knox and Dennis Smith for pure cap space. Knox is 6-7 PF I don't think highly of.

I'm not sure of another little guard .... I like it back Burke earned it ... although if it's because of Justin I do it ... Knox only 2 years ago compared to Tobias Harris / Tatum.
I like the idea of trading JJackson for some cheap recovery prospect Josh Jackson / Knox / Dsj / Garland / Bamba ...... etcetc high ceiling
I feel that this young and talented team is the perfect place to develop

Call me crazy, but I would be willing to trade KP assuming we get back a top 20 player in return. I don't trust his knees. Who would fit best next to Luka? I don't think Minnesota would be this crazy, but I would trade him for Karl-Anthony Towns in a heartbeat.

Trade KP for Giannis. Split the extra max contract spot to sign Oladipo and Jrue Holiday. Top 5 defensive team instantly.
