NBA Draft Lottery Thursday (8/20) 8:30PM

Post#1 » by bstein14 » Wed Aug 19, 2020 3:44 pm

This has got to be our year to land a top 3 pick! Its been a long time. Actually Grant Hill in 1994 is the last time the Detroit Pistons had a top 6 draft pick (if you don't count the picked they traded Otis Thorpe for that landed Darko). Only IT and Hill have been top 6 picks over the last

Who's going to join these all time great Piston top three draft picks?

1981 Isiah Thomas
1994 Grant Hill
2003 Darko

I really want Edwards if we luck out but I have this feeling they will take Ball with a top pick.

Yeah I want Edwards too but I'd be cool with Hayes as well. I just dont see it with Ball.

I'd rather drop a spot or two. #1 OA will be ridiculously overpaid because of pre-set rookie scale contracts. I understand the benefit of getting your pick of the litter but the difference between first and sixth in this draft is negligible. There is no Zion in this class, not even a Morant. #1 this year probably is five or later last year(I'd argue as late as eighth).

Admittedly there is marketing benefit from first overall pick.

If we're destined to land a top 3 pick at some point, I'd prefer it not be wasted on this year's draft.

Agreed. The Pistons have a strong tendency to draft busts.

Edwards is my top pick as well. Regardless of the player they pick, I really hope that he turns out to be strong contributor to this team for a long time.

No more busts, please!

I'm not sold on Edwards so if the Pistons won the lottery (and we all know that isn't happening), I'd look to trade down and collect 2021 picks. Edwards probably has the highest upside in this draft because of his athleticism and ability to get his own shot but I'd trade down for a haul if it's available. This is the type of draft where the #1 pick should be heavily on the table.

If they stand pat or drop down to 6-8 (which we all know is going to happen), I prefer to take the highest upside guy possible. There's some high floor players who will likely be available at that spot like Haliburton, Toppin, Avidja but I'd prefer guys like Hayes or Ball who might have a bit more boom potential in a draft with not much boom potential.

The lottery odds are crazy these days, so much fluctuating. Would be cool to move up instead of down though

I'm ready for that 9 spot! Although with this being one of the weakest drafts in some time, the Pistons will probably finally move up instead of down in the lottery.

This just seems like one of those drafts where a Kwame, Olowokandi, or Anthony Bennett gets drafted first.
At the end of the day, it's not about wins and losses. Teamwork, fair play, and good sportsmanship make champions of us all.

Go arbitrary assortment of athletes! Beat the other arbitrary assortment of athletes or my mood will suffer!

Should be fine as long as we are not one of those teams.

Not sure about the board but I'll be in Piston mode for the night which I haven't been in a while. Mock drafts, you tube and so on.
