Re: Coaches Thread
So Koeman is going to Barcelona. I understand he was a player there and he did a good job at Feyenoord but he has also had some mishaps, no more so than Everton, where he was a disaster. Is Koeman just a stopgap whilst the oldies in the team disintegrate or do you think he's the long term answer? He had a rep of working well with youngsters at Feyenoord but not in the UK. He also seems to argue with everyone.

There are also reports that he has the intention to sell certain players (Vidal, Rakitic, Suarez eg). That would be a great start for this club!

I actually rate Rakitic.
Doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Right, but both aren't no coaches.

This is the problem that "big" teams who pay more wages than anyone else have.

Nevermind^^
It is old but worth to note that:
The great Niko Kovac (with bis brother) is the coach of AS Monaco.

Re: Coaches Thread
Bilic fired today.
Too early for me. He's a decent coach with a promoted team who were favourites to go back down, not sure what the owners expect. He understands the game well and he's to be replaced by Big Sam who West Brom won't keep even if he avoids relegation.

Insane decision imo.

Have to agree with both of you. I once referred to Bilic as the Balkan Alan Pardew on here when No_20 was insufferably hyping him up for little reason, but I thought he was doing a decent job at West Brom. Outside of Grady Diangana, Pereira and maybe the goalkeeper, I think they have a very poor team and are favourites to go back down. With that in mind, I think Bilic was performing around expectations. Despite their poor start to the season, I don't think their performances were actually that bad.
Big Sam is experienced and a relegation survival specialist. I'm sure he will do alright but I still think Bilic should have been given more time. West Brom are becoming quite a poorly run club, which wasn't something you could really say about them in the past.

Re: Coaches Thread
Lampard gone Tuchel in.
I liked Lampard as a player and thought he did well to make the CL places last season (and FA Cup final) considering the embargo. Chelsea were top of the Prem and people were bigging him up in December and now after a poor 8 game run he's out. Personally I'd have given him more time. I think he's best than Olé and Arteta who have been worse over the time Lampard was at Chelsea.
Tuchel, I don't really follow managers but what has he done? Didn't he follow Klopp at Dortmund and who can't win a couple of trophies at PSG? How good is he? Will Chelsea win the league?
I'll be interested to see where Lampard goes from here. Can't see him being hired at a prem club as those who'll be looking will want a relegation fighter. Back to the Championship? Celtic? More than likely a year off like Howe.

He deserved more time, though he was underperforming.
Tuchel isn't an upgrade. Maybe they hope he'll ignite Werner and Havertz quicker.

Tuchel is an upgrade pretty comfortably. Tuchel is manager more suited to the league than cups, but with PSG their squad improved to probably their best version over this past offseason after making and competing well in the CL final. Some run of bad form this season in the league got him sacked, but I think that's more random and a temporary thing reflective of COVID schedule shifts and squad periodization taking a hit.
I actually agree Lamps got sacked too soon, but seeing 300M transfers fail was all to predictable and my only surprise at it's timing is how long it took since Chelsea had the transfer ban last year. That sort of problem is so Chelsea.

But nearly all game results under Tuchel as coach have been much better!

New manager bounce. It's a real thing
My worry (well not a worry because I'm not a chelsea supporter) is that he's ditching the youth and playing the experienced guys. That's going to work short term but those youngsters have had a taste and won't be happy not playing. Guys like Pulisic who was awesome for a while and Abraham etc... are going to want to leave for first team football.

Tuchel certainly is an upgrade over Lampard. He has much more experience at the highest level than Lampard has and he is off to a good start.
He is a difficult character, though. Very demanding of his players and he will let you know when you are doing things the wrong way. I can see some guys might not cope well with that.
Also Tuchel has given plenty of youngsters significant minutes in the past decade. Those that are really deserving starter minutes will find the way into his starting lineup.
