Re: What's Aaron Nesmiths' best Comparison
I think Hield is the right comp, but I still see a smidge of Levert. Nesmith plays downhill more than Hield.
Maybe Dale Ellis as an old school comp?
He's a high-level shooter with enough size and average enough athleticism to not get killed on defense. He'll definitely have gravity as a shooter. His medicals could be a factor (also similar to Levert).

He had video game percentages in literally 7 NCAA games (mostly against junk teams), take those 7 games away and he's a 33.5% college shooter across about 40 games. I'm not saying he's not a real shooter, just cautioning that the hot streak was a very small sample and shouldn't be the only reason you like him as a prospect.

I'm getting pretty high on this guy. His numbers are pretty crazy and the way he creates separation too get his shot off is legit.
I think hes the sleeper of the draft everyone wonders why he wasn't picked higher in hindsight.

Probably means that the Pistons won't even scout him.

I just dont buy that he is nearly as good a shooter as his numbers indicate. I think he is overhyped.

I doubt hes gonna be a 50+% 3 point shooter in the NBA but he looks good enough to be in the low to mid 40s. Hes pretty good coming off those screens and just finding separation period with a quick release.

I find him extremely hard to read, one of those prospects that I'd love to see just like 15 minutes against real NBA comp to get a better sense of him. Big reason is that it looks like his margins for error and for success are pretty slim: if he can't drain stepbacks and contested 3s at a really good rate, he's probably not a NBA player at all (doesn't do anything else very well and isn't big or quick-release enough to be a pure shooter). Seeing him play for just a few minutes in a real NBA game would show us if he can get those shots off still within NBA flow and also if he can generally keep up athletically and on D with NBA players.
I usually like to watch full games of players and not highlights, there's not much for Vandy easily online but here's one vid against Liberty--you can see why it's hard to read him, he doesn't look bad but also doesn't stand out and it's hard to even see how much of a weapon his shooting could be.

Thanks I'll definitely watch when I have time. I'm interested him but you make valid points.

Re: What's Aaron Nesmiths' best Comparison
looking at his film again
low elevation on his jumper and for me (could be wrong here), he has an ever so slight consistently late release imo. almost like his wrist has to use extra effort at the end to really push the ball into the hoop.
not really impressed with the ability to create a shot off the dribble as some others kind of hinted at.
overall though, he is simply too damn efficient despite my minor criticisms of his aesthetics. he has the nba body and length, and he is decent on the defensive end. he spaces himself on the floor well to get minimally contested threes...the way he plays is a lot like sasha vujacic...just camping on the perimeter like a sniper. that being said, he's still active enough to get 4.5 FTs a game so he should get some credit for being able to draw fouls, but let's be real, nobody is really scared of his first step or him using a lot of counters to become an elite scorer off the dribble.

Re: What's Aaron Nesmiths' best Comparison
Because of his flat-curve arc and difficulties off the dribble, I have my doubts he'll be the best shooter out of this draft.
Tyrell Terry, if he can get his body NBA-acceptable, would be a decent bet.

I am right there with ya. I just dont buy his jumper at the next level. His shot isnt that quick, the ball looks pushed and his % is inflated by a 7 game hot streak. I am just not buying in on him. I also dont get why everyone consiters him a SF. Most Portland fans see him as a SF but think its crazy to play GTJ there, somehow missing they are like the exact same height, size, wingspan, etc. He is absolutely a SG.
John Jenkins
This is pretty much where I am, albeit I think Jenkins would have had a better career if not for his injury. I think he could be a bit like Derek Anderson as well.

Re: What's Aaron Nesmiths' best Comparison
Is there any video evidence this kid has any resemblance of NBA level athlete? I dont see much in the way of elite moves on either side of the ball, despite having decent size and some instictive movement defensively and a high % side step dribble to get his shot off clean. He is pretty conditioned to be a role player imo.
He could be a deep sleeper to become a very solid pro if he can continue to shoot over 50% from deep,(unlikely) and maybe more than role player if he can figure out how to get by nba defenders or is a better athlete than it looks like.(doubtful)
Right now I am not sold he will have much success as more than a catch and shoot specialist but nothing would surprise me if he is a better athlete than it appears or can develop into a solid ball handler but it seems a little late in the process to become that from where he is currently which is a bad ball handler and a terible iso player

if you're looking for explosiveness you're prob not gonna find it. that being said, i don't think he's got heavy feet or anything like that. i think his approach to the game is probably far more cerebral than it is physical.
