This Clippers team is very disconnected, it feels like they are playing one on one basketball on both sides of the court, and I'm not sure it's by design. Particularly, I don't understand why are they switching so much

How many team players do you see out there tho? the Lou/Montrez pick and roll is a thing, other than that they are iso guys and Doc is a personality manager. (near GOAT at that to be fair) It's not like Spo is out there doing his magic.

I mean, George can run decent pick and roll action, but the fact that Morris and Jackson( and Kawhi really) are ball stoppers doesn't help.
I guess I'm more surprised how they look on defense

Are you really though? Defense in this era is mostly done with a system and dudes who buy in. The LA teams get by on talent but the systems are little more than switch everything or have talent everywhere. There's a decent case that the best 4 defensive teams of the round 2 teams will be in the East.

Disagree. The Lakers have at least the 3rd best defense. They have 96 drtg against Dame

AD, Lebron, Howard, Green etc against a ~3 man team. They're playing 2 centre lineups, Melo is the third guy etc.

You can try to downplay them all you want but Portland put up a:
- 113.2 ORTG during the season (#3 in the league)
- 115.8 ORTG since January 1 (#2 in the league)
- 122.5 ORTG in the seeding games (#1 in the league)
And the Lakers have held them to a 98.0 ORTG in the playoffs (16th out of 16 teams). Per usual people will try to diminish a team that played against a LeBron team after the fact, but the Blazers have been absolutely elite offensively this year and only improving as the season went on. Lillard has been arguably a top 3 offensive player only behind Harden and Doncic and peaking at the right time. CJ is a very good offensive player. Nurkic is solid. Whiteside is decent on that end. Trent is a positive. And the Lakers have made them look completely inept at scoring the ball.
Milwaukee has played an already below average Orlando offense made even worse without Aaron Gordon and Isaac. Toronto has played a bad Brooklyn offense without its 2 best players Kyrie and Dinwiddie as well as like 3 other rotation guys. Miami has played a below average Indiana offense without Sabonis. Boston has played an average Philly offense without its sole offensive playmaker Ben Simmons. And they still haven’t been able to achieve close to the same defensive results.

That's Doc's defensive gameplan and it's not going to change even though it doesn't work. He's also not going to stop playing all our worst defenders together, even on the most crucial defensive possessions.
This is by far the most poorly-coached team in the league and has been since 2013.

Paul George is such a great complementary second star to Luka Doncic. That 1-2 punch is really tough for the Clippers to handle.

You can't really blame Doc that much. The Clippers roster just isn't as good as most make it out to be. Kawhi is a great individual iso scorer, but there's a ceiling to how good an offense can be with him as the hub, the Clippers don't have a reliable playmaker who can create easy offense for everyone. They also have great individual defenders on the perimeter but no rim protection to anchor their defense. Their 2 best players are also somewhat redundant in terms of their skillset.
It was a team put together with accumulation of talent over fit in mind, which could be a winning formula except they don't have the most talent anyway.

Re: 2019-20 NBA Season Discussion
All that being said about the Clippers, they are posting a 119 ORTG in the series. Their offense, despite PGs struggles, really has been quite good. It's their defense which has been bad, sure Dallas is a great offensive team but LAC shouldn't be letting them put up a 118 ORTG.
They are missing Beverly and they should be playing Zubac more. That's really it imo. Also idk if its just scheme, but Kawhi really seems to get out-smarted a lot late in the game on switches and screens, he needs to do better. PG simply needs to show up on the defensive end too.

Defense has been poor across the board in the bubble playoffs. It's a league wide trend of offensives dominating.

Yes you can blame Doc that much, actually. He makes the roster's issues worse by using the worst possible rotations.

Disregarding how you feel about their talent
Zubac is like a +34 in this series and he's sat more minutes than he's played.
Doc is blowing this series with his love for Montrez Harrell.

All jokes aside, Harden had a late game stretch where he settled for pull up 3s instead of driving into the lane. And then CP3 attacked him on the other end for easy layups or pull up jumpers. I don't think Harden had a bad game but it was not a great end of game stretch.
