Re: 2020 NFL ROOKIES
BRANDON AIYUK
WR, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
Coach Kyle Shanahan said first-round rookie WR Brandon Aiyuk is "further ahead than a lot of rookies."
Shanahan continued, "He knows how to practice like a pro. You can tell he comes prepared every day. He’s not a guy you’ve had to teach how to act or teach how important it is to learn this stuff. You can tell he understood that before he got here." It's more confirmation that Aiyuk figures to be in the mix for a Week 1 role, especially if Deebo Samuel (foot) isn't able to play. The 49ers plan to take advantage of Aiyuk's versatility, which may include special teams work as a returner. Aiyuk is a smart hedge in the double-digit rounds of fantasy drafts as someone who could be a No. 1 receiver to open the season. At Arizona State, Aiyuk was lethal on straight-line routes and screens because of his yards after the catch ability.

Already...
First Allen Robinson, then Chris Godwin, and now KJ hamler
As long as he's not inserted into the slot role, I have nothing but faith this guy eventually becomes the next Tyreek Hill

No "I don't have all the details" playbook for this one, huh? Again, very strange

Re: 2020 NFL ROOKIES
KJ HAMLER
WR, DENVER BRONCOS
Broncos.com's Aric DiLalla thinks KJ Hamler can make a “big impact” early in the season
Hamler has shown “flashes of greatness” at training camp. The Broncos have Hamler and Jerry Jeudy repping with the second team, something that should change as camp moves along. There’s a lot to like with Hamler’s profile — he played for powerhouse IMG Academy and was a three-year B1G 10 starter. Hamler is being drafted as the WR12 in rookie drafts.

Re: 2020 NFL ROOKIES
JONATHAN TAYLOR
RB, INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
The Athletic’s Zak Keefer wouldn’t be “surprised” if the Colts start Jonathan Taylor after a few breakout games.
Marlon Mack is the expected Week 1 starter, but the Colts know they have a three-down back in Taylor. Even if Taylor opens in the lesser half of the committee, he’s a better red-zone fit than Mack, potentially giving him a higher floor. Mack missed six games to injuries the last two seasons and is playing on an expiring deal. His leash is going to be short.

Re: 2020 NFL ROOKIES
JUSTIN JEFFERSON
WR, MINNESOTA VIKINGS
Vikings offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak said Justin Jefferson is "exactly what we drafted."
Andrew Krammer added that Jefferson was "running with the 2's for now" but Kubiak's comments indicate Jefferson should have no problem becoming a starter. The Vikings drafted Jefferson with the No. 22 overall pick they acquired by trading Stefon Diggs to the Bills. Jefferson is expected to see a lot of work from the slot in his rookie season. He played in the slot for 90 percent of his snaps at LSU last year and set the school record for receptions (111). Jefferson's biggest competition for the job could be Olabisi Johnson, who played a third of his snaps from the slot in Minnesota last year. He recorded 294 yards over 13 games.

According to Twitter he's running with the 1s at times. This means Denver knows what they got. Courtland Sutton in the slot, with KJ and Jeudy on the outside. Him and Jeudy have already received praise from AJ Bouye.
I'm interested in seeing if Brandon Aiyuk looks any faster in camp. I'm on record for saying he ran a graceful 40 at the NFL combine. I wouldn't expect him to be any faster now.

"Exactly what [you] drafted"? Ummmmm...yeah, Captain Obvious. And AJ Jenkins is exactly what the Niners drafted back in the day.

Fant is getting a lot of talk as a fantasy breakout this year. I can't see it with the additions of Hamler and Jeudy. Matthew Berry analogized Fant's rookie season and athleticism to Kittle and mentioned Kittle's second year. The difference is that Kittle was playing alongside a washed up Pierre Garcon (who only managed eight games, a decent but hardly transcendent Marquise Goodwin, and young guys like Pettis and Bourne. Fant's situation is completely different, and I don't think he sees a large target share.

Fant might become the team's RZ weapon because of it. Really hope Drew Lock doesn't mess it up.

Is it a problem that Trent Taylor has been the best WR in training camp? Or are we going to ignore this problem too?

Re: 2020 NFL ROOKIES
The WR situation is far from ideal, but it's not so very bad. Last year's #1 is injured currently, and the guy we took in the third last year is done for the year. But Samuel should be back relatively early in the year, and we've received promising reports about Aiyuk and Bourne. Our primary receiver is the TE, and we got back our best receiving RB. The passing game should be fine as long as Jimmy plays well.

And I'm not sure if you mean us on this board or the FO by "we," but the FO certainly hasn't been neglecting the position.

Re: 2020 NFL ROOKIES
I do wonder about the training staff/coaching staff and the number of injuries we keep seeing.
WR should be fine by the 1/3 point of the season.
Samuel
Aiyuk
Taylor
Bourne
James
Pettis
Kittle
Reed
That's a pretty talented if inexperienced receiver corps.

We on this board. Even when Deebo comes back, it will be yet another year without a #1 WR. As you stated earlier, the niners have invested way too much capital in the position for TRENT TAYLOR to be the best WR in camp.

I wanted to return to this as I didn't address the central concept of the post in my responses above. All reports - at least prior to Aiyuk's injury - have been that he and Bourne have been very good this camp. Most of the beat writers who have mentioned a "best" WR of training camp have mentioned one or both of these guys rather than Taylor. Still too early to say they should have taken Hamler.

If Aiyuk isn't getting clear go to WR receiver type hype vs the likes of Trent Taylor and Kendrick Bourne, then that's the indication there's a problem. KJ pulled his hammy the other day, which they're saying will take four weeks to recover, so maybe Aiyuk can make up some ground.

I've seen more glowing reviews of Aiyuk than Bourne or Taylor.
That said, it doesn't really matter much. We need to see how they all do in real games. If we take the optimistic take seriously Aiyuk/Samuel sounds like the early talk from camp of the Rice/Taylor combo with Aiyuk sounding more like Rice and Samuel like Taylor. I'm not saying they are equal, just that they remind me of those two back then.
