The Toronto Raptors have discussed the possibility of boycotting games following the continued acts of police brutality against Black people in the United States.

Jacob Blake was shot multiple times in the back by police in Wisconsin on Sunday. Blake has survived but is paralyzed from the waist down.

"I'm pretty sick to my stomach to have to sit up here and talk about this again," said Norm Powell.

Toronto opens up their second round series against the Boston Celtics on Thursday.

"I think it’s been talked about," Powell said about a potential boycott of games. "I think everybody is at the point of sitting up and saying, ‘Black Lives Matter’ and sitting up and having these discussions in Zoom calls. That’s not getting the job done. Taking a knee for the anthem, that’s not getting the job done. It’s starting to get washed out."

"I'm in a different place today, emotionally speaking. It's starting to feel like everything we're doing is just going through the motions, nothing's changing," Fred VanVleet said.

"What are we willing to give up? Do we actually give a f--- about what’s going on?”

Marcus Smart said the Celtics have also discussed boycotting.

"We haven't confirmed anything but it's definitely something in the back of our minds," said Smart.

This is EXACTLY what Kyrie was talking about prior to the restart and people gave him hell for it. He was right.

The fact that the act of simply contemplating a boycott (not even actually doing it) was offensive to so many was very problematic for me.

I don't know if it's due to an intense hatred of Kyrie Irving, a dogged defense of the status quo, or a mixture of both, but the nearly uniform dissension and public critique of him and boycotting was extremely disheartening.

It is sickening to see greed/the love of money, the lack of empathy and sympathy for a fellow countryman, -woman, -person, and hatred for a basketball player (and in reality, an entertainer whose skills are on display for public enjoyment) has infected the minds and hearts of so many Americans.

To both of you I wanna say he 100000000% deserves an apology.

People looked at me crazy when I agreed with him at the time.

Around the League 2020 Playoffs

Kendrick Perkins is the biggest bitch ass negro I’ve seen in my life. I’ll take the suspension if I’m violating the language rule.

You should have never ever disrespected and dragged Kyrie as a “distraction” and called him “crazy” and questioning the decision to be the VP of the Players Union when all he asked was a boycott and now on August 26th you are asking for players midst of the 2nd round schedule to boycott suddenly.

I have a special place I’d like to send coons like him. You are a cancer to the black community and we will absolute drag your ass for the rest of your pathetic life.

Best regards,

Paradise.

Kendrick Perkins has got to be the meanest-spirited media guy I've ever seen covering the NBA. He just seems to go after Kyrie and others without a shred of remorse, without any sense of humor or fair play or anything other than pure venom.

I don't get the thinking behind whoever hired him and keeps him around. Well, I mean I guess it makes sense for FOX, but even ESPN has to be a little better than that, I would hope.

Agreed, Perk is a cornball and a clown.

I don't know why TV stations and news outlets give him a platform. He's trying to be the next SAS/Cowherd hot take machine, but how fake outrage is always so ill-conceived.

It speaks more about the utter decay of The Republican party that he ran unopposed. 4 years ago you had ppl like lindsey graham, ted cruz, and nikki haley trashing Donald Trump for being a racist bag of garbage. Now they all lick his boots.

The thing is that he doesn't need to systematically murder people to potentially have a far greater negative impact on history than Hitler. Some of Trump's first actions were withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement and cutting the EPA to shreds. I hope that current climate change projections are hyperbolic. Otherwise as a species we need to pull our finger out yesterday and another 4 years of Trump and inaction might well be enough to bring about the freakin apocalypse so many seem to crave.

People try to ridicule him for the flat earth stuff, but when he speaks about the plight of Black and Indigenous People, he is always coming from a good place. That's the one thing I've learned about the dude during this short time he's been here.

He hasn't gone full blown Hitler yet but if he somehow wins re election, it's all but a guarantee.

Incumbents, for both parties, always run unopposed, or opposed by a nobody that poses no threat.

I don't like Trump, but he's no Hitler. He talks the crap that will get him elected, but in truth, he's a socially liberal, fiscally conservative. Northeast conservative. He's been that way his whole life. He plays the WWE anti-hero storyline to a T. I actually called his win early in the Republican primary when everyone still thought he was a joke, because he knew how to morph the typical Democratic underdog/victim storylines to motivate voters. The old WWE us against the evil corporate bosses/overlord stories. He's basically running as Stone Cold Steve Austin.

It was given that Police brutality would've continued. KY just pointed out obvious. Not going to stop even after elections. Reforms have to be taken, hard reforms and Biden ain't that.

The problem will continue to fester and fester until escalation occurs, and then things will become even more dangerous in the country. It's only a matter of time before the extremists make their presence felt. and then what?

And remember at the moment the right wing establishment from the media to grass roots organisations is focused on making the current government look good. Imagine the lengths they'll go to when they actively stand to benefit from amplifying chaos and the appearance of government incompetence. You can vote Trump out of office but you still have to live with his base, some of whom may just be there for conservative values. Others believe he's the christ figure Q, figthing a war against a global cabal of satan worshipping paedophile cannibals. The division is deep and ugly. Social change has to be fought for, because you can bet it will be fought against.

Voting him out won't do anything. Police departments are state/city run. The president/federal government doesn't have any standing there. Forming a single, national police force would infringe on state's rights, and is not feasible. The first time this happens under a Biden presidency, tensions will escalate again. The issue is that the current 2 party system forces everything into red & blue with no shades of purple anymore.

It should be ok to condemn unprovoked police violence, yet support the majority of police that are genuinely good people that put their lives on the line in crisis.

It should be ok to sympathize with African Americans, believe that something needs to be done to address the issue of unprovoked police violence against African Americans, yet also condemn the violence, rioting, looting & destruction of private property.

MLK, famously stated "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction ... The chain reaction of evil - hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars - must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation. (1963)"

Is it wrong to believe that MLK was right? To sympathize with BLM, but also believe that some of the destruction that has occurred during their demonstrations is actually making tensions higher, police (and civilians who fear for their businesses) more nervous/anxious, and that these images we see on TV are actually furthering that spiral/chain reaction?

Everything in life has shades of gray. You have to be willing to try to understand the perspective of both sides. Unfortunately over the last 8-10 years, cable (propaganda) news channels & social media echo chambers have taken all rational thought out of life's issues & tried to force everything into purely binary red or blue buckets.

I feel that the Democratic Party needs to be careful and toe a slightly more neutral line. I fear there's a strong chance that the BLM message gets lost, and the images of buildings on fire will push moderates towards Trump, because at the end of the day, no matter what politicians/media tries to feed you, most people vote based on an impact weighted handful of issues that impact THEIR lives most, especially with the binary political system (since there's no way to vote for 5 red & 5 blue stances). Trump is banking on people being worried about their wallet due to the shutdown (or China), and their safety. I fear the isolated, non-peaceful protests & soundbites Biden saying he would keep the nation shut down if required are playing right into Trump's plan.
