They should just start movements to boycott certain products and businesses that support politicians that don't implement changes. For example if Home Depot was a big backer of someone that was creating division and hate you could boycott it. Could you imagine almost all athletes and entertainers asking you to please boycott them? They could bankrupt large companies.

Instead of boycotting businesses (won’t do a damn thing) they could go to the local mayor/government and see what they’re doing to fix the issues. Bucks did that tonight and I would hope more are going to follow that process. Start holding the people in power accountable because they’ve turned the blind eye for decades.

I live in Australia where many of these things are a non issue for me, though there is obviously racism in my country too and many of these things have a trickle down effect. Australia was widely free of coronavirus until after the death of George Floyd where BLM protest took place in Victoria. Some whom attended the protests were Covid positive and afterwards there the virus spiked and spread rapidly, causing many deaths and resulting in restrictions and lockdowns to be put back into place (which is where the trickle down effect of something on the other side of the world has affected me).

If you look at the virus numbers in the US they spiked again after Floyd's death and protests started, so I do wonder quite how many deaths world wide Derek Chauvin is in essence, responsible for... Aside from that, I'm not heavily invested in either side here, if the players want to play, I will watch, if they don't feel it is right, then I will go on with my day...

I can say I kind of wish that the Magic weren't caught up in it though... I mean, I was hoping for them to extend the series as much as possible, but odds are we would have lost today and gone home. I feel for a guy like BJ Johnson who has a young daughter at home that he was probably going to see tonight, but he will stay in the bubble to show solidarity with the team even though he probably won't step foot on the court.

I'm wondering what happens if some teams (maybe all teams) say they won't play in states that don't support X legislation - like universal body cams, 3rd party prosecutors for police, etc. Obviously the bubble complicates that now - but for the future.

Alot of fathers out there who work harder and see their children even less often for a fraction of the pay he’s getting.

Just because he is making good money doesn't mean he's less human. He deserves to see his daughter just like any other father.

So the Lakers and Clippers have voted to end their season? Wow. Let’s see how they feel after a night of rest.

Might as well just end it at this point.

The Clippers and Lakers voting on perhaps not continuing with the season was considered more of a polling, than a final vote, sources tell ESPN. The resumption of the playoffs remains still up in the air.

"More of a polling than a final vote" - I think the season continues after a couple days. Maybe we'll hear some demands from teams to continue playing and things will get delayed a bit more.

Well... if this is the logic we are using then I cant feel sympathy for the fathers you mention either.

Because alot of fathers in the world are out of work/persecuted/starving/homeless and some would have children who have have died, been abused or murdered.

Not being permitted to feel sympathy because ‘someone else has it worse’ is a pretty flawed argument.

Not heavily invested in this BLM or any protest tbh.

Living as a minority here in the Philippines, stuffs like this rarely happen - a strong majority of our population are pure Filipinos despite my ancestors being here for more than 500 years.

From the outside looking in this is really bound to happen with America’s population being soooo culturally diverse And it seems like every black guy shot to death creates more controversy regardless. As a person with Chinese ancestry, I would say we’ve been humiliated a lot more especially because of this pandemic. I’ve seen a lot of asians, not even Chinese, being beaten up in supermarkets or humiliated for being asian.

I dont think rioting is the answer to everything. Personally, I think these riots have been more politically driven against Trump. Rioting will only drive people into worse situation than where they were to begin with. And you’re just going down to their level. Just like in Hong Kong, now almost every HK citizen is painted as a protester or Hong Kong is not safe, but I’ve had friends who are enjoying weekends in HK because it is “cheaper” now in HK because they need tourism. or when I say I’m from Philippines, they think it is not peaceful here etc. but, truth be told, i’ve never lived more safer than ever before.

Rioting will only drive people’s livelihood down. Not just for business owners, but for the employees, the employees family and the community that benefits from them.

As for the game, damn, they prolonged the orlando Magic’s agony. They already want to be out of the bubble. Now their stay is extended.

I could be wrong but I think if the players just up and went home (at least if they did so quickly), they lose their leverage, and a lot of their voice and the eyes on them and they rotate out of the news cycle.

If they stay in the bubble and the story for the next week is "Will they play or won't they" repeatedly, while they try and leverage their position into actual action (rather than messages on the jerseys and court)... From my perspective that would be a better way to go, even if they did ultimately decide to pack it up and go home, it would be more powerful if it was a well thought out, united approach after putting forth a perspective and still feeling that no action was being taken, rather than just as knee jerk reaction etc.

This whole thing is getting pretty exhausting honestly. I understand the need for change in this country in regards to race relations. But change only comes from legislation and changing the hearts of men. Being without the NBA won’t move any kind of needle in most people’s lives. I don’t think being without it is going to spur the kind of change these guys are looking to make. If anything it might hurt the NBA long term. Most people will find another form of entertainment in its stead. I myself have found out I’m a bigger fan of UFC than the NBA during the pandemic. So if it never comes back so be it. If these guys want change go to Capitol Hill and make it happen on the law books.

I mentioned this before, but I'm sure some of the reason for them sitting out is to spark change but also some of the reason is that they don't want to be people's escape from the situation.

This is a slippery slope. They are essentially saying this particular issue is important enough for them to boycott the season. Who is anyone to say players won’t play moving forward because of specific issues completely unrelated to their personal identity?

Again, there is no national policy that will be implemented because some entertainers get upset and decided to forfeit their paycheck. The general public doesn’t care if these billionaires lose money on personal investments.

If they think this will solve anything, other than being perceived a certain way, they are mistaken.

I would just like to add that I thought soccer/football is/was pretty boring. I mean.. 90mins for kicking thr ball atound witgout scorinv or dramatic saves and whatnot?

But after that Euro champion game or something I kinda enjoyed it.. or at least didnt find it boring. So yeah, if the NBA is gone.. then I can *escape* to another sporting event.

Not basketball related, but how is it possible that this happened? I mean, with the whole BLM movement going on.. what was going through these cops minds? Did they really think their act would just be ignored? They should’ve known by pulling the trigger that their own life would be over too right?

pepe you know better than this. This is you first and last warning and it will only be a warning if you drop it here. Please. The rest of the stuff is your opinion as is most of this stuff in this thread (besides snarky personal acts which people need to chill with), but generalizing that any Muslim (there's 2 billion worldwide) is going to come in and rape people is xenophobic and a big no no. Same with generalizing about Jewish people, Christians, whatever. None of this please.

Because panic and madness is worst physical illness. Today in Lincoln police officier was shot by 17 years old kid, while attempting to execute an arrest warrant.

22 days ago, from Chicago, police officier got shot in leg while working domestic violence case

This is the fourth officer struck by gunfire from suspects in the last week. It just speaks to the courage, bravery and dedication of the Chicago Police Department,” police Superintendent David Brown told reporters outside Mount Sinai early Wednesday.

it's madness that has no ending ,as every civilian walks around with weapons and police officiers are being under pressure and fear for their lifes. They simply don't react as they should, rather just follow basic survival insticts and open fire first.
