Zonkerbl wrote:Despite his refusal to take responsibility for doing his job, Trump is in fact responsible for many thousands of people dying from COVID. But how many? Now he might have shut down the entire country immediately and stopped the whole thing in its tracks, but I think that's unreasonable - I don't think HRC would have done that.

You could argue that every single death is his responsibility because he dismantled Obama's pandemic working group basically for no reason other than spite. How much that would have changed things is impossible to say, unfortunately. I suppose if you just want to blame every single death on him you could go with that, but I'm not comfortable with it.

Arguably any mistake Gov Cuomo made, Trump is off the hook for. So all the deaths in the Northeast we have to chalk up to something that would have happened anyway, minus a few deaths that resulted from the Trumps seizing control of PPEs and auctioning them off to the highest bidder, which wasn't where they were actually needed.

I think the new hump that's emerged is arguably Trump's fault, although I don't know what's going on in California. I guess every death that's occurred outside of New England is a good approximate number to use for deaths that are indisputably Trump's fault.

Oh hell no, its all on Trump. For precisely the reason bolded above. Contrast this outbreak with our response to Ebola. We identified every possible infected person, tracked them personally and everyone they had contact with. The German response to COVID used our model for that. The world thought we would handle it since they use the response protocols we helped write for the WHO and all, and we have the resources and intelligence for contact tracing etc.

This outbreak was precisely predicted as a possibility in the briefing book left by the Obama team. Specifically warning about another mutant Coronavirus from China (SARS being the precedent). If any of those protocols were in place when we first heard about trouble from CHina and watched as they locked down entire cities, we would have been able to intercept and isolate cases and track them. NY and NJ would not have happened with a unified response. It shouldn't have been up to Cuomo or whomever people wish to blame. Here we have a White House condemning testing for crying out loud. When constant testing and contact isolation is the only thing that will help up open our country up before the science produces a vaccine or treatment protocol.

HRC would damn sure have recognized this incoming virus as a clear and present danger. Health policy is where she cut her teeth in Bill's administration. She reads and listens to science. I thought she was a terrible candidate, even if she was more qualified than anyone who ever ran for the office (and all the Lefty reasons for disliking her, coziness to Wall Street, and hawkishness in general) but if you think she wouldn't have swiftly and decisively put the right people in charge to snuff the threat, well, you're wrong.

That said the deplorables would have protested and rioted about anything she tried to do. Especially testing and contact tracing, masks would have been the least of their complaints.

Trump's handling of the pandemic has been....deplorable. The white nationalist president, who ran on protecting the borders, didn't even bother to close down travel until it was too late.

America come get your children
The ones you are so proud of
The ones wearing Stars and Stripes
Buying guns like candy
The ones dripping with
White privilege
That you created with
Red blood from brown skin
America come get your children
Come get your kids
The ones flying flags of defeat
Of history long dead
Of a life they wish they had
Of superiority they believe they have
The lies you whispered in their ears
As you rocked them to sleep
“Look away look away look away Dixie land”
America come get your children
The ones terrorizing this country
The ones terrorizing the world
The ones never called a terrorist
Come get
Your rapist
Your misogynistic
Your appropriating
Hating
Bigoted
Offspring
You know...
the apples that didn’t fall far from the tree
America come get your children
The ones running the country
The ones too cowardly to speak up
The ones that shoot into protests
Churches
Light torches
Run cars into peace
Come get your diseased infants
Entitled children in men’s bodies
Jealous girls screaming in women’s voices
Come get this disgusting basket of
Deplorables
That you nurtured on
Manifest destiny
The pale pink faces
In utter disbelief
That even though you put your knee
On every Brown and Black neck you saw
We have fought back and risen
Casting shadows on your children
And they rage when they learn
That being a white mediocre man
Is no longer enough
America come get your children
Before they burn this stolen land down
And you with it

Something like 700 hundred killings by police this year.
It's shameful. What's worse is how there are myriad laws
and bureaucracies in place to evade any semblance
of accountability.

While I heartily applaud the effort, I have concerns about this actually coming
to pass. It is sure to face pushback in the form of legal challenges. At least
for the arenas to become polling places.

It great that the players got the owners to do this. It's a positive step.
It's also only 30 polling places in the country. That said, I need to remind
myself of 2 things:
1. tRump won, _in part_ due to low voter turnout in
three key cities (MIL, DET, PHL) which each have NBA arenas.

2. Even if it's only a symbolic gesture, at least
it's yet another reminder to get out and frickin vote.

If the NBA players want to have an outsized affect on this, they should also volunteer to be poll workers.

Imagine that turnout?

That is a very intriguing thought. Could be substantial or even huge (yuge).
Especially say in DET, MIL and PHL.
And FL has 2 NBA teams too. Hmmm.

PS- So who can pump this idea where it might make a difference?

Great minds - I was thinking the exact same thing - and came up blank. I need to dwell on that for an evening...

If everyone started tweeting this at all the favorite players,
maybe eventually someone would notice. I’m not on Twitter

“The worst enemy that the Negro [has],...” said Malcolm X,

...is this white man that runs around here drooling at the mouth professing to love Negros and calling himself a liberal. It is following these white liberals that has perpetuated problems that Negros have. If the Negro wasn’t taken, tricked or deceived by the white liberal, then Negros would get together and solve our own problems. I only cite these things to show you that in America, the history of the white liberal has been nothing but a series of trickery designed to make Negros think that the white liberal was going to solve our problems."

Joe Biden is a perfect example of this white liberal, who tells blacks, if you don't vote Dimocratic, "you ain't black".
