If Andres Gimemez is the SS of the future and JD is firmly entrenched at 3B. 2B should go to McNeil IMO. That leaves Rosario out of the mix. What can we get back if we trade both Rosario and Diaz?
Obviously Cano is the big question mark. Will there be a universal DH going forward? With McNeil/Smith/Davis ability to play LF I'd imagine some sort of rotation for that position.
The second half last year Rosario was really putting together a nice run, this year he's been pretty bad, but it's hard for me to put a lot of stock into this season for anyone. You'd imagine we'd go after pitching or try to restock pile the farm system, but who knows man. Gimenez glove looks legit, far better than Rosario's, the question is can he hit? What happens when teams actually start to scout him and learn how to pitch to him? It's far too early to be throwing in the towel on Rosario.
Perhaps. I really really like Gimenez so perhaps I'm projecting a bit. I think the DH is now here to stay. Given that, I'd prefer to have Alonso DH and Dom Smith play 1B where he's a potential Gold Glove. I know that's going to hurt Pete's feeling but I think that's what's best for the team.
Cano is hitting up a storm, so maybe now is the time to try and get something/anything for him. Cano is not part of the team's future. I'd like to see an infield of
1B Dom Smith
2B Jeff McNeil
SS Gimenez
3B JD Davis
DH Alonso
C ?
We really need a catcher and a center fielder.
In any event, we should find out who our new owner is before the end of the year and that owner or ownership group will certainly part ways with all of the old baggage. Goodbye Brodie. Goodbye Rojas (I hope we keep Chili Davis and Jeremy Hefner). And I think they'll eat any mistakes on the team which present obstacles to the development of the team.
