I feel like we knew this already somehow. Or it was rumored. We need to bring in his dad in some capacity

Harold Ellis reportedly also hired. Seems like Ryan West will be amateur scout and Ellis will be pro-scout(which he did for Orlando before being hired on to Knicks to run their basketball operations before the shake-up there this past off-season had him not retained). West seems lite the heir apparent hire out of the off-season Weaver hirings.

West is a great hire, but there's no way he's long for this team. The Lakers were the best drafting team in the league during the years he was highly involved. After killing the 2014 & 2015 drafts, he was promoted to director of player personnel. Left the team on his own accord last year due to the front office shake-up drama.

Here's hoping Weaver is a low-ego guy who will be happy to listen to West. Based on track-record, West should run the draft.

2014- Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson (2nd round)
2015- D'Angelo Russel, Larry Nance, Jr.
2016- Brandam Ingram, Ivica Zubac (2nd round)
2017- Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart, Alex Caruso (signed to summer league team & then to contract)
2018- Moritz Wagner, Svi Myhailik (2nd round)

Depends on how long Weaver wants to wear the GM hat here. He's never had the keys though as he was always under Presti, so I assume he'd want one build cycle at least. So you're probably right that West wouldn't be here long - but that would be a good thing for us in a way as it would mean he was successful here in order to get poached away.

I think he thought he should have been given the LAL gig over Pelinka and when that didn't happen he walked and then latched on with his fathers team the Clippers in a contracted role waiting for the next opportunity without having to uproot for a temp gig.
