Yeah, that was a shocker. At least he went out on top, but he had so much more of his career left - he was in his early 40s.
Make sure yall get your D's checked. Cancers no joke.

Re: 2019-20 NBA Season Discussion
Dort has taken 9 shots (and only made one which was a layup) in the first quarter. What the hell is Billy Donovan doing...?
It's not like he's going to shut down Harden, just put someone else in until Harden gets hot. Or at the very least call for isos lol... 9 straight chucks from SGA, Gallinari or CP3 is going to lead more than just 2 points.

Dort's got to drive on these plays, I know the 3's are wide open, but he's just not good enough of shooter to keep shooting them. I do think he's a good enough driver to get to the rim on some of these.

He really should be getting closer to the rim. OKC could have been up by double digits if it wasn't for that awful 1st quarter. He had as many shots as the Thunder's 4 lead scorers combined.

Billy has barely played Gallo at the 5 lineups with Cp3/Sga/Dort/Dennis
playing Adams and Dort together is so stupid. Its always caused them to dig out of holes early and he basically fluked into it the one game when Steven got injured and they went on a run late

We'll definitely need to adjust how we judge these performances. The bubble is an anomaly.

Playoff offense itself is just gonna be like that with how offenses are now, its just superstars playing more, offenses utilizing matchups problems more than ever before as well

Denver's defense with Gary Harris out there is night and day, my goodness. He is still a perfect fit with their core if he can get that 3 pointer back on track.

Just absurd shot making by both Mitchell and Murray tonight. That 4th quarter was surreal.

Is Murray becoming a better player than Jokic?

If Murray is now the GOAT shooter, sure, more likely, no. He is on one though.

I mean, hes been better over this series than jokic has
He isnt gonna average 50 a game over a year but its fair to say hes been better this series than jokic has been

I think in general people are too quick to simply say that offense is easier now and numbers are inflated...average Orating over the last 5 years or so is like 1 point higher than 5 year stretches in the 00s and 80s and 90s. Individually, I honestly just think some of the bigger numbers you might be seeing are a result of better offensive strategy and just more skilled players, on average, who had the benefit of building off players from previous eras.

Offense for perimeter players is def easier now. No handchecking, freedom of movement rule offball where u can barely touch anyone and moving screens not called. Players on average are more skilled in perimeter shooting but there arent really any defensive rules these days

I would argue the 14 second shot clock after an OREB is a pro-defense rule. Not sure if it actually comes out that way though. Perhaps it's just more of an anti-big men rule? I don't really understand it.

This definitely benefits the defense. I call it the Tyson Chandler rule, he used to always tip out the ball on missed shots for offensive rebounds and a brand new possession with a full 24 second shot clock when he was with the Knicks. He sometimes would do that multiple times on the same possession, which took up a ton of time (which was huge late in games) and put a ton of pressure on the defense to keep having to defend another 24 seconds.
Limiting offensive rebounds to 14 second possessions has definitely helped out defenses.

Most of it is offensive strategy changing, and it goes more into specific teams
Certain Offenses now are basically 5 out or 4 out and 1 big vertical threat
Most teams with great offensive superstars run this, and this makes it REALLY easy for star perimeter scorers compared to before. Some of it is definately rule changes and refs not allowing as much physicality as before, but most of it is probably strategy
I dont think players are better is a reason. For example, wade or kobe would drop absolutely ludicrious scoring numbers today
The main tradeoff in scoring effeciency is from offensive rebounding i think, but it more thab makes ip for it
Otoh while people always mention high volume three point suooters as being more succesful today I fully think its gonna be more so premier slashers benifitting from space

Re: 2019-20 NBA Season Discussion
Who would have the better chance of pulling off the upset on the Clippers, the Jazz or Nuggets?
Either way, I think I'm pulling for the Nuggets. I love the emergence of Murray, and you don't often see a team coming back from 3-1 down, would be cool to see.
