Any thoughts on whether Onyeka Okongwu would simply turn into Gorgui Dieng once in the NBA? Dieng was a blocking fiend in college and played a little bit more above rim than he ever did once in the NBA.

That said, Gorgui was a stocks + deflection king

How do you quantify these POOR weaknesses?

I don't see how you can on the basis of 3 games and some YouTube clips from highschool.

I don't think he is the perfect product, but a Centre in a thin draft class (thin Centre draft class next year) with blocking ability, shooting ability would be perfect insurance if KAT goes down with an injury.
nolafan33 wrote:I see a lot of hype for Wiseman in this thread, and some people speaking about his defense. His defense is REALLY bad. Rebounds and blocked shots are nice, but the things that really matter are ability to defend in space, ability to rotate, ability to defend the PnR, etc. Hes very poor at all those things.

Don’t think so.

G was slow-footed and not very athletic.

OO looks very quick and athletic.

Dieng has ok quickness for NBA C, but he is one of the slowest PFs in NBA. I recently re-watched our win against MIN. Man, Bam is really quick! There was one MIN possession, ended with a miss. A few seconds later, Bam was first with other guards to finish fastbreak. That is what I call quick and athletic.

The direct comparison to Dieng isn't great, because of a few factors. First of all, Okongwu was born and raised in the United States while Dieng didn't come over until age 19. Okongwu started his freshman year at USC at 18 years old. Dieng was almost a full year older at 19 when he stepped on the Louisville campus. Dieng was at Louisville for three seasons. Okongwu was at USC for one season. These are advantages Okongwu has going into the league in terms of his development and upside.

However, I think the greater point is that prospects don't always turn out as they seem. And that can be the case for any prospect.

Okongwu is nothing like Dieng offensively. You can count on one hand the amount of lob dunks Dieng has had in his career. While that seems to be one of Okongwu’s best offensive weapons.

Not in my eyes. A less developed Harrison Barnes maybe.

I've seen some compare him to Millsap, which is interesting.

He's intriguing. 6'10" 250. A big strong man. Solid stroke from the line at 77%. He took between 2-3 3s a game and shot them poorly 32%, but not as bad as Ball or Edwards  . Would you endorse him as our pick at 33? 17?

I would be relatively surprised if we left this Draft without Aaron Nesmith.

I like the way you think :D , but we won't get him at 17 IMO. Do you think we package 17 with an asset to try to move up a few spots? Do you think we get him standing pat? Would you trade Okogie or Culver straight up to draft him? How do you make it happen?

Assuming we stay at #1 then Wiseman has to be the pick. You don't get cute at #1, you take the most gifted talent. That is Wiseman.

If we trade out of #1 to 2-4, I'm taking Deni.

I hope we get 2 of Nesmith, Patrick Williams, Bey, Bey, Paul Reed, Precious, Desmond Bane with our two other picks. Though I'll be surprised if Rosa's walks away with 3 rookies.

Preach it brother.
If we trade back though I want Okongwu.

I think Nathan Knight could be good as an undrafter free agent/D League two-way contract.
He is very efficient on offense and his combination of size and skill are pretty rare. .604 2PT% on 20 attemps per40 for his career.
If there is a chance he is a non negative defender then he could be an impact player at the next level.

I think Williams is going to be TOUGH in the NBA. Maybe not as big as Millsap but the guy is going to be ripped in the NBA. Gritty player. He’s one of my boom picks.

I'm on the same page with William's.

Months ago I wanted with the Brooklyn pick. Now I doubt he makes it there, especially because the Nets had to go win damn games in the Bubble. With the Spurs, Portland, and Celtics in front of us, I would say there is no chance he falls.

I usually don't compare prospects to stars, but I see shades of Kawhi. Don't want a great franchise like the Spurs to get their hands on him.

What are his strengths? Versatility? Toughness?
