Just a little forced perspective there.
9. Similarly, IF THOU HAST SPENT the entire offseason predicting that thy team will stink, thou shalt not gloat, nor even be happy, shouldst thou turn out to be correct. Realistic analysis is fine, but be a fan first, a smug smarty-pants second.

Happ trade will always baffle me. Drury has put up -1.6 WAR in the past 3 seasons. That's hard to do, lol.

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
So some of our long-term projects look to be panning out this year:
Rowdy Tellez: .266/.336/.532/.868
Teoscar Hernandez: .298/.351/.617/.968
So, small sample size or have these guys turned a corner? Would be huge if we could depend on these guys to fill 1B and LF for a while - we have team control over Teoscar for 3 more years and Rowdy for 4 more years.

Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Teo had a 939 OPS in the second half last year. I think he will come down a little but he seems to have developed.

Teoscar Hernandez with a potential rib injury serious enough to land on the IL. Getting an MRI today. The would be a killer.

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
Last year, Tellez struck out 28.4% of the time. The league average is 23.2%. And now this year he’s striking out 15.1% of the time. Went from 5.2% below average, to 8.1% better than average. That’s pretty impressive.

Re: General Blue Jays Thread, 2020
Placeholder or not, Caleb Joseph feels like a rookie again with Blue Jays – The Athletic
The team’s taxi squad catcher until just this weekend, Joseph acknowledged he has had to work to stay ready for this opportunity. He’s kept himself sharp by working diligently in the cage, following the advice of former teammate Mark Trumbo to always keep his timing with the highest-velocity pitching possible.
He has also worked to become an important part of the team’s clubhouse culture.
“I just was trying to find a way to contribute to the club when I was not on the active roster,” he said Sunday when asked about the “three stars” he selects after every game. “I thought, you know, we are a Canadian-based team, and Canadians love their hockey, right? So instead of doing something involving a belt or something, I thought, ‘Why don’t we just do three stars of the game?’ Because that’s what they do after every hockey game."
“It became something. After the first game of the season, we did it, and it’s kind of grown and progressed (to) where we can acknowledge some really cool plays. We can also acknowledge some not-so-cool plays, in light and in fun, but also holding ourselves accountable."
“I think the fellas have really grasped what we’re trying to do, and it’s kind of become a fun celebration. Winning games in the big leagues is hard. It is really hard. And with such a young core and with such a young group here, you really want to make sure they understand that winning is not — it’s expected, but it is so difficult that you’ve really got to enjoy it."
“I made the playoffs in 2014 with the Orioles, and I thought, ‘Oh, man, this is great — we’ll just do this every year.’ And it took another two years to get back there, just as a wild-card (team) in ’16 when Toronto spanked us. But I haven’t been back since, and you get the feeling that, man, this is a special moment; let’s make sure we enjoy it. So, having that kind of postgame celebration, I feel like everybody is really relishing in the win. And, more times than not, their team wins and we get to really savour the moment and go into the night feeling really good about ourselves, trying to build some momentum going into the next day.”
At times Joseph sounded as much like a coach as a player. He is clearly quite deeply invested in the success of his young teammates. And though from a distance it is maybe easy to see him as a mere placeholder for prospect Alejandro Kirk (who is now the designated catcher on the Jays’ taxi squad), there is undoubtedly more value to having him around than his stats suggest.
How long that alone will allow him to stick around is unclear, but if he can keep contributing with the bat just a little bit, it seems like it would be foolish for the Jays’ front office to rush him out of a roster spot.
