Re: Trades and Transactions thread - To the offseason!
Julius Randle, Dennis Smith Jr. for Nic Batum, #32
Bring back Taj Gibson and Reggie Bullock; decline options on Payton, Ellington, Portis
FA - sign PG DJ Augustin to 2 years, $10M per with team option
Knicks trade #8 to Orlando for #15 and ORL 2021 1st (top 8 protected)
Knicks trade #27 and #32, cash to Philly for #21
15 - Aleksej Pokuševski
27 - Tyrell Terry
38 - Udoka Azubuike
PG - DJ Augustin / Tyrell Terry / Jared Harper
SG - Nic Batum / Frank Ntilikina
SF - RJ Barrett / Ignas Brazdeikis / Reggie Bullock
PF - Aleksej Pokuševski / Kevin Knox / Kenny Wooten
CE - Mitch Robinson / Taj Gibson / Udoka Azubuike
Fun, young team with a mix of vets. Then this allows us a boat load of cap for 2021 and 3 (!!!) first round picks.

What about we try Isaiah Thomas if we get rid of Dennis Smith Jr ?
I will only cherish the wins and ignore everything else, because that's the only way to survive as a Knicks fan.

I would rather keep Dennis. At least he is younger.

1) Awful roster.
2) Batum and Poku cant be starters. They are barely rotation players. Poku is 2 years away from be 2 years away. Batum is washed and awful for spacing the floor to help RJ. They will lose their starter position in no time.
3) We dont need Bullock if we have so many vets. Bring me a better wing. Maybe we can re-sign Dotson in the same price range.
4) This roster costs us around 90M. I think it's hard for the cap to drop so much.
5) Orlando 2021 pick is top8 protected. There is 60% chance it will not convey. I would not be surprised if we have all the 7 east lottery teams in the top 8 worst campaign.
6) 10M to DJ Augustin and Taj Gibson is very very above market salary. No one has cap space to outbid us.
7) Wooten is not a PF.
8) I hope we get a better offer to Randle and Dennis. But I think this trade is more realistic.

Re: Trades and Transactions thread - To the offseason!
What are the chances San Antonio would trade the 11th pick? I was thinking Knicks trade Randle, Smith and #27 for Ladridge, #11 and a future 2nd.
San Antonio needs to get younger and rebuild. They might see promise in building with Randle and Smith. They would shed a little bit of salary by dumping Aldridge and still get a 1st back.
Knicks would move on from Randle and Smith. Get a quality pick back and get a quality veteran that can help build on that Thibs culture change. Plus his massive contract comes off the books after next season.
Knicks draft Toppin at #8
Knicks draft Vassell at #11
Knicks draft Oturu at #38
They then sign Fred VanVleet, resign Dotson and bring back Bullock and Gibson
PG- VanVleet/Frank/Harper
SG- Barrett/Bullock/Dotson
SF- Knox/Vassell/Iggy
PF- Aldridge/Toppin/Wooten
C- Robinson/Oturu/Gibson

If they have to get younger, why trade their pick? Randle and Smith have almost neutral value. Aldridge might be positive. But, if Spurs are rebuilding, they dont need cap space and could keep him. Why would they give us a lottery pick in this trade?

Re: Trades and Transactions thread - To the offseason!
The only trades I see possible with Charlotte are either a low level swap of guys who might need a chance of scenery
Monk - DSJr
or
Maybe a similar thing where Batum - Randle, where Charlotte gets the more useful player, but a 5 million cap hit one year foward, and the Knicks get....well, there would have to be something else.
If the Knicks were picking 5th, this MIGHT be the basis of a pick swap between 5 and 3, but doesn't seem like a move any sane franchise would make to drop 5 spots in the draft
I guess we've seen most of the scenarios where the Knicks include #27 as well etc etc, but none of them that much sense.
Oh, Terry Rozier is the only bad contract they have.
Not sure if they are motivated to move that and what that might do for the Knicks.
Tying up 18 million per on "meh" guards isn't my thing. See, Hardaway,Tim, Jr.

Aldridge is 35 and it's not working with him and Derozen. Aldridge will be easier to trade but at 35 doesn't demand as much as he used to. They get younger by adding Randle who is 26 and Smith who is 22. San Antonio will try to win as long as Pop is still coach.

Exactly. So, why do they want Randle and Dennis?

Pops reups for 1 year contracts every season. The spurs have an insane amount of cap space after 20-21. I can’t see them handing over the 11th pick for a stop gap move

What ? No thanks, it's the sixers who need to give lots of picks.
His contract is more toxic than we never known in NY. And yet we are specialists for toxic contracts...

Making these trades - or trades like them - sound like big trouble to me. We still have Perry here and Leon hasn’t even gotten his feet wet. I’d prefer some smaller FA signings and a great draft. That’s what they should be focusing on now.
Edit: the two trades we need to make are getting rid of Randle and DSJ. I’d take a 2nd rounder for each. Goodbye.

Not advocating the full list as trades; just listing the contracts that the Hornets MIGHT be motivated to lose.
Not sure they are a trading partner. Particularly once the Knicks fell to 8th. Maybe if the Knicks were 5th, a pick swap/players thing could be there. But now? Unlikely.

I would be open to taking the worst contract in the NBA. But it should cost Philly
swapping philly's 21st pick for our 27th
unprotected 2021 1st round pick
unprotected 2023 pick
and Thybulle
