Surprise. It came out of nowhere and I thought it was fake when I first read it.

He finalized his decision after confirming that Robert Horry is not a member of the Nets.

I always figured that he'd eventually go into coaching. But of course harboured desires of him coming home to coach for the Suns. Perhaps not too far off down the road, We might be able to persuade him to come back on our coaching staff! That would be incredible!

I actually thought he was the type to skip over coaching and go straight to a front office a la Kerr when he came to PHX. Either way, he will be more of a motivator I'm guessing than an X's and O's guy. This will get Sean Marks an extension for sure. This is a real coup for them.

I would have rather kept the Nash dream alive in PHX rather than Brooklyn, but I think Steve's been living out there.

I would love to watch him at wherever job on the Suns, but not happening.

I think he will be a great HC.

Can't root for KD and Kyrie. Sorry, Steve. I still love you though.

Happy for him.
Given I have friends who are Nets fans, I'd love to see them snag a ring while he's coaching there.

I just think an odd hire. Zero experience as a coach for a team with a very small window of Kyrie and KD

If I had to guess, Durant was behind this based on their years in GSW. Maybe this will be a positive thing but he is going to be learning on the job

I think a more experienced head coach would be better but who knows.

Coaching superstars isn’t as much about strategy and experience as it is relationships and familiarity. He wasn’t coming out of part time retirement unless he’s getting top notch talent that he’s comfortable with. As for the Kidd references they couldn’t be more different in terms of personality.

Suns V. Nets 2021 NBA Finals.... MontyBall v. SteveBall Booker and Durant are buddies too. It would make for one heck of a series, and admittedly a far-fetched turnaround from where we are today.

This is gonna be a tough job. I’m happy for Steve but having to deal with arguably the worst personalities in the league in your first job will make it more difficult than it needs to be.

At least it’s not like the Lakers. Or imagine if Pop retired and the Spurs somehow decided to hire Nash as their successor. Now that would be a punch to the nutsack.

Wish him the best!

I think he is going to do great. I have always wanted to come back to Phoenix and eventually be the coach, but our situation has been toxic.

It's too bad he doesn't want anything to do with the suns.

What would he have done with the Suns though? We already have an awesome head coach and I doubt he would leave the NYC area for any reason than being the HC somewhere worth his while (GSW, PHX, DAL, TOR, etc), so that means no Asst Coach (which would have been awesome). His only real options were the Nets and Knicks and I can't blame him for making that decision.

Personally I would rather have him be a free-lance player development consultant (like he really was for GSW) and we send him players to work out with (DB, CamJ, KO, RR - all 4 of them would benefit).
