Sign FVV and trade DSJ/Randle/picks to Portland for McCollum.
Instant upgrade in the backcourt and great compliments to RJ.

What I would like to see for the Knicks this offseason is maybe sign the guy on the right to backup Mitch and trade for the guy on the left (for Randle and the Clippers pick?).

Take on Horford Contract for 2021 and 2023 unconditional FRP and pick swap this year between 21 and 27
Draft Lameo, Wiseman, OBI,
Next year draft have 3 picks
2023 have 3 picks
I love RJ and Mitch, but I dont think either will be a star. Have to keep trying in draft till we get a star.
RJ Barrett would be the unanimous #1 pick this draft

Everyone keeps saying that on this board. But can you show me evidence of it. He is projected to be a solid NBA starter. Not a superstar. He's not that athletic and does not have a great jump shot. One thing we are seeing from these playoffs especially. Your wings need to be great 3 point shooters. I like the kid and love him on our team. But you have to draft to find a star. To find a young star on a rookie deal, is the first step in building a championship team. It will help with FA, etc.
The best example is Philly with MCW they realized very quickly he was not a star, so even though he won rookie of the year they moved on from him.
Another example would be KP. We had serious questions about his durability and attitude going back to Pjax era, and KP has star potential. Wouldn't we have been better off trading him much earlier than we did.

RJ would be far and away the number 1 pick in this draft and it wouldn't be remotely close between him and number 2. The reason is simple, he's a 6'7" wing that can handle the ball and create shots, there's just no other player in this draft that posted the type of numbers he did with his skillset. RJ averaged 23ppg, 8rpg, 4apg on 45% shooting as a freshman, there is not a single underclassmen putting up those numbers in this draft class. The playoffs is littered with wing players that can shoot, you're right about that, but Jaylen Brown was a 29% three point shooter in college and a year older than RJ as a rookie. You don't give up on wings like RJ so soon, his numbers are virtually identical to Brandon Ingram's rookie numbers. The shooting can be fixed as long as he puts in the work, finding guys that can create and slash like him at his size is rare.
MCW was 22 years old as a rookie and wasn't a top lottery pick, they capitalized on his rookie season.
If KP didn't have injury concerns he'd still be on our team.

Ok let me get this straight. You say we need shooters but you want to trade away RJ for a guy who can’t shoot to save his life in LaMelo. The kid literally shot .375 overall and his 3pt average is a .250 while playing professionally. Not to mention that RJ is just a year older than him. RJ has always been a highly regarded prospect but you want to swap him out for a guy that just turned it on at the end of last year? You also want to get rid of Mitch who is still growing into his position considering he didn’t play college ball and still was able to be highly effective? Btw RJ isn’t 22 like MCW was. Drafting Toppin would literally put us in the same position as the Sixers, a kid with a short ceiling who will ball out his first year and then bottom out. Wiseman is a huge unknown considering he barely played college ball. People forget that Mitch was a top prospect and people slept on him because he didn’t play. Only reason Wiseman is getting pumped up so much is because we didn’t have a full college season so there are many unknowns. This draft will be dictated on potential which aligns perfectly with a lot of the mock drafts I have seen.
To be giving up on our player when they never got a fair shot seems odd to me. How many rookies thrive their first year when you have a two lame duck coaches (One that thinks he can coach and one who can coach). Both of them wanted to save their rear ends so they played the vets to the detriment of the rookies. I’m all for trading up in the draft but this is not the year to do so. Give the kids a proper chance with actual coaching and development while acquiring assets. I’m not opposed to the Philly trade but I would much rather have Harris who is a lot younger, seems to play well in any system and only has a year more on his contract. (Besides, you are more likely to get 2021 and 2023 unprotected picks trading for him than trading for Howard.

How are you defining “baggage”? LeBron is high maintenance everywhere he goes. It comes with the territory with playing in the NBA. It’s the coach’s and FO’s job to manage egos.
Anyone on the Knicks roster can go, I couldn’t care less. The Thibs hire will attract star talent, leave player development stuff to college. Either a guy can ball or he can’t.
You want to compare Schroder to Lebron? Lmfao damn ok. Lebron was the best player in the league from the moment he stepped onto the court. He willed his teams into the playoff with absolutely nothing. He is a generational player with will be remembered as one of the greatest to ever play the game. Yeah...I think he can get away with being high maintenance since it clearly worked in Cleveland and Miami. Now...what has Schroeder accomplished? Nothing to warrant the same treatment someone would give to Lebron.
Yes it is the coaches job to manage egos but how do you expect them to manage his ego when he has also establish a culture. Schroeder would be fine if we have the foundation built but we don’t. You don’t need a kid with a history of issues to undermine what you are trying to set up. And that garbage about leaving development up to colleges is the reason we don’t have a star to begin with. All the great teams have one thing in common and that’s development. It’s why you see players like Oladipo suck while he was in Orlando but strives in Indiana

Oladipo had a forgettable year in OKC but had a breakout year with Indy the following year. Do you really think it had to do with development or the system and environment he was under? You know what kind of player you have within a few years. How long is Fultz in Orlando going to blame a bad shoulder, for example? He’s just not good, nothing more to develop. The NBA is not for developing talent, teams are there to win championships.

Players are supposed to get better as they age. If they don't, they shouldn't be in the league. You're using the word "development" very loosely. Why do you need to develop a top pick? It defeats the purpose of a top pick... maybe baseball is your thing, they love to "develop" guys for decades.

If you wish to believe that then so be it. You are entitled to your position as am I. If development wasn’t so important, why is it such a sticking point when it comes to hiring coaches? Why would there be an emphasis on the G-League? Why do analysts always bring it up when the talk about prospects when it comes to which team ends up picking them. Why is it that teams who have the biggest and best development staff tend to be at the top while teams with zero development staff tend to be at the bottom. If development wasn’t important then there would be no G-League when there are other options? Why would the league change the monetary awards given to players/prospects to join the G-League and spend that kind of bread if it wasn’t important? You may believe it’s not important but the league such as hell does.

Basketball is a simple game, there's only so much an analyst can say. They all use the same catch phrases. And I mentioned the G league, which is a development league. The G league is not the NBA. Guys are not on the roster to 'develop" unless you're referring to team chemistry. That doesn't mean they aren't working on their game. I don't believe in keeping a bad roster together in hopes something "develops". It doesn't make any sense. You have to make moves. Same applies in real life, in business.

The pick 10 and Oubre rumors got me excited. We can just absorb him. My question is would the suns want #8?
That’s actually how a trade like this normally works, the Suns move up two spots and shed salary. The Knicks come away with a good player at SF and move two spots down to draft another player they like at that range.
