Harden when he hears this

Do you think Vogel watch film? This doesn't make sense.

Yeah not really sure about this move. The Lakers aren't going to out small ball the Rockets. LeBron/KCP/Green/Kuz/AD is going to kill any rebounding advantage they might have.

Kinda weird that a twitter folk can see Harden's tendency to drive whenever they have 1 big vs 2 big and Vogel and his staff can't figure this out, despite the fact that houston did the same thing vs OKC just days ago, I don't get it.

Yep. And you turn the game into 1 shot v 1 shot with a Lakers team that isn't great in the half court against a Rockets team that limits turnovers and transition opportunities. The Lakers have to find a way to get more shots down court than the Rockets imo.

How do people like Cranjis Basketball and all the other great twitter analytics guys not have jobs with these teams who employ coaching staffs that fail to make basic adjustments? It’s amazing that LA might spend the entire series thinking matching Houston’s small ball is the answer and playing Rondo for his “swagger” and “IQ” is a good move when everyone else figured out a while ago that they’re wrong.

I still wonder why he can't match his RS numbers though, it's so odd.

His playoff numbers are virtually identical to his regular season numbers.

And what context are you talking about that stats can't back it up?

https://rocketswire.usatoday.com/2019/05/12/james-harden-continually-struggles-in-closeout-games-vs-warriors/

It's about his numbers in elimination games. It's quite simple in fact, in every game that James Harden has no pressure to win he can still perform at a high clip and be lethal, in nearly every game in his playoffs career that he faced elimination he had shortcomings.

When you call someone "the best offensive player ever" we do expect more. We have the right to expect more, to see not only a good Harden but a GREAT Harden.
And yes in a year with more scoring than ever, I expect him to perform on par to his RS form, because we use these numbers to conclude that he is the best offensive weapon ever, not 29/7/6.

True, James Harden is not clutch, but it might be irrelevant this here because I don't see this being a long series either way.

It’s not an issue of “heart” though. It’s so lazy that people always have to pin losses on heart, effort, killer instinct, and other intangible things to fit a narrative. LeBron and AD could give their best efforts of their careers but if Houston is able to pack the paint with 4-5 guys at a time it literally doesn’t matter at all. You need spacing in the modern NBA and the only way that’s going to happen against this Houston micro ball lineup is if the Lakers play to their strengths by going big (McGee and Dwight give spacing by being lob threats) and not playing Rondo.

Blazers shot 38% from 3 in game 1

Lakers shot 15% from 3 in game 1

5-32 from 3

Rockets shot 35% from 3 in game 1

Lakers shot 28% from 3 in game 1

It took a horrendously bad 3pt shooting game from blazers to win and blazers to shoot well from 3 to win by 7

This rockets win is much more impressive because they didn’t shoot 3 well and still won easy

The league obviously wants LA vs. LA, so expect a lot more one sided calls in game 2. Also, Bron complaining about „no spacing“ is classic Bron move, throwing shade at team and coach To start building excuses in case the unthinkable happens. They made no shots, true, but he didnt either, throwing bricks at the backboard trying to copy Harden. Difference in leadership between him and Butler couldnt be bigger.

Lakers have to win gm 2 because not only are they're the favorites, they have LeBron and made the GIGANTIC trade for AD. Thus, I think they're still the favorites against small ball Rockets. That said, what can the Lakers change up to not repeat their being exploited in gm 1? I think that is ramping up their defense. They'll be going one-on-one more than zone. They'll be using the big men more on the perimeter. I don't know if they move AD to C, but that lineup may be one of the defensive looks that Vogel shows Houston. It should be 1-1 after the next game.

if lal dont win game 2, it might be over for them. However, if they manage they win it (which i think they will), theyll win this series in 6 for sure. Lbj is not gonna lose to this team just like that

This is a pretty good piece. A little bias saying they completely Ignored Rondo, and I didn’t see it as quite that bad. But the rest seems spot on.

We just saw what the Heat did by playing outside and shooting threes, while locking up the paint vs a team with no good three point shooting guards and making it difficult for the mvp...this sounding a little similar?

It’s insane lebron even has to say this. How dumb is Vogel. Houston literally had everyone in the paint

I think the Rox match up well with the Lakers and the crazy thing is that they matchup even better with the Clips, imo. Lakers fans might say its just one game, but damn, the Rox small ball defense has given them a lot of trouble 3 times now. And they play extremely against big forwards like Lebron,AD,Kawhi,PG. Morey and Dantoni gonna go from laughing stock in the first round to geniuses when they make the finals

Said before the rockets would pull off the upset. Matchup isn’t good for the lakers. Lebron and AD are talented enough to win 2 game but rockets in 6.

Yep. And I don't really get it in the modern positionless NBA. What's he worried about?
