So who's our post-2007 closer?

Who will be our closer next year? Keeping Coco here is improbable thanks to the lack of the salary cap (baseball was dumb to never implement a salary cap, and it's too late to do so now because the Players' Union and big-market owners would object), Turnblow is Turnblow, so our options are limited. The only arm in the organization who has closing capabilities is Marino Salas. I'm sure there are others, but most haven't even reached Double-A ball yet.

The last time I remember the Brewers getting a closer out of nowhere was when the Brewers picked-up Turnbow off waivers, and he eventually found himself as one of the best closers in the league. The same thing happened with Danny Kolb in 2003, though technically the Crew never picked him off waivers (they signed him to a minor-league contract). Regardless, the chances of either miracle happening again are slim to none. And again, Turnbow (pardon me, Turnblow) imploded last year and will never be an effective closer again (though he's proven to be a decent 8th inning guy this year).

Sadly, I think Turnblow will be the closer next year. Who knows maybe he gets some confidence back and racks off 22 saves in a row at the start of next season. Yeah...probably not.

Why do people keep calling him Turnblow. Coco has just about as many bad outtings then he does this year. Turnbow has easily been our second best pitcher in the pen and people need to put last year behind them. This guy is nothing like the guy in the second half of last year who couldn't locate nothing.
BUt anyways with no more jenkins i think we resign coco.

Because of history. He could go 37/40 with a 2.00 ERA next eyar and the same people would still be talking about how much he has sucked.

He hasn't been Turnblow this season, save for about 3 games.

What I've really liked is that he's been able to bounce back from his bad outings...where one bad outing last season would throw him into a complete tailspin.

Dave Bush was a closer at Wake Forest wasn't he? That's always a possibility if Turnbow doesn't workout...

Turnbow has been ok this year but there is a big difference between pitching in the 8th and pitching in the 9th.

Coco has had a few blowups but he is now tied for the club record in saves.

I'd love to have him back but we won't pony up the cash he'll get from another team.

WE are probally talking 12-13 million a year. Which I would never ever pay for a closer. Im hoping we can get Chad Cordero from the Nationals. I can live with Turnbow though. He has shown he has got his stuff back.

3.Veteran FA, something like the Indians did with Borowski this year

He'll get more than that. He's making about 5.5 this year. I'm guessing he probably gets 8-9.

As a knee jerk reaction to this season and Melvin's history of finding effective closers (even if only for one season), I'd much rather put that cash towards a Sheets extension.
