Even though it looks like Gordon Hayward will now miss the birth of his son -- assuming Boston gets by Toronto in 6 or 7 games --, it would be cool if the NBA/Celtics could provide Hayward with a spacesuit or something close to it and private plane to witness the birth of his son.

If Hayward is going to miss the birth of his son which supposedly is best estimated for later in September and he is going back to the bubble right now... I would think it probably means 1 of 3 things.

Hayward estimates that he may be less than 10 days away from coming back.
or
Hayward is somehow convinced he is at a stage in his recovery right now that he is better off being treated by Celtics medical staff than what he can do on the outside.
or
Hayward's wife is really annoyed at him! -- I am kidding with this one.

Once Hayward's ankle is good to go, I don't think it will take him long to have a chance to contribute. He is probably in position right now to practice his shooting. He hasn't been out that long and he has played enough games this year to be in NBA shape.

Presumably the evidence for the missing-the-birth theory.

I feel like a lot of people are taking this message to mean Hayward is missing the birth of his son when it could just as easily mean Hayward wont be seeing his family again UNTIL the birth when he will no longer be the only boy.

Then again returning to the bubble right now does make more sense if hes staying through the birth.

This isn't a traditional wedding, where you stay away from the bride until the event. If he is there, he will probably see his wife and/or daughters before the new baby pops out.

I think that Hayward will leave again, for the birth of his Son.
Jackie Mac is reading too much into a Tweet.

Robyn Hayward is Due near the end of September.
NBA Finals were slated to start on September 30th (before the 3-day walkout).

I wouldn’t hold anything against him if he did, but I don’t think Hayward is going to leave for the birth.

I think he knows this could be his best chance at a championship, and made a really, really tough decision.

If the finals start by the end of December and Robin is due then, then I'm not sure what Hayward would do if we reach them and he's healthy.

I mean, probably his own son would tell him to stay and play if he could.
Robert Horry is better than MJ, because everybody knows that 7>6.

Naw. He'll likely make the trip, to be there for the Birth.

One of the sites my noscript is blocking on RealGM is crabbychin.com and now I'm sad.

(I'm not kidding, either. Funny coincidence.)

Looking back at 2014 Draft. Smart is actually better than everyone picked ahead of him besides Embiid. And it's not really close at all.
In a redraft it's Embiid, Jokic, then I guess you can debate between Dinwiddie/Smart/Levine but I would take Smart all day.
I apologize for the things I have said in the past.

Great post. For most of his career, Smart seemed like he was picked exactly where he deserved at 6 but he has really become a much better player. Nurkic looked great in the bubble and Capella deserves mention too. Gary Harris dropped off quite a bit with injury but 2 yrs ago looked like a borderline all star 2 way player.( or borderline to being a borderline all star....is there such a thing?)

There is absolutely no debate between Smart and Dinwiddie/Lavine. And I quite like what Spencer brings. But nah.

There's a reason why I posted this in the Celtics General Thread instead of the Around the NBA thread.

Ideally hayward, but can live with anyone but AD. If lakers win it just helps to (falsely) justify lebrons weakness and AD demand out of new orleans

11 of the 13 youngest teams in the NBA this season didn't make the playoffs. The Celtics and the Thunder are the other two teams. The Lakers, Clippers, and Heat are the 3rd, 4th, and 6th oldest teams this season respectively.

Of those 3, I would take Smart. I do think Aaron Gordon has done well enough that he deserves mentioning. As much as I like Smart and I was on record in this forum saying if Celtics stayed at #6, they should select Marcus Smart and really avoid Randle.... someone like Aaron Gordon just hasn't been surrounded by comparable talent as Smart.

Gordon has just been in playoffs once and he did pretty well. He missed playing in playoffs this year due to hamstring injury. He was one of the Magic's best player in last years 4-1 series loss against the Raptors squad with Leonard etc that won the NBA championship. I would not be surprised if Aaron Gordon gets scapegoated for the Magic problems.

Celtics by getting Brown/Tatum/Hayward and even Walker have done that with Smart but Orlando didn't have a Nets like trade to bolster their roster.
