Joerger clashes with every FO. Why in the hell would AK hire him?
Why does everyone keep bringing that up lol, why do you care that he clashed with the front office? Doesn’t necessarily mean that it was his fault. All I know is he did a very good job coaching both Memphis and Sacramento. Besides do you think coaches don’t ever clash with managers, happens a lot. To me it shows he has balls to stand up for what he believes and coaches the way he wants to coach, not be a puppet like Boylen or Hoiberg. Thibs clashed with Paxson, why does he keep getting a job?? If you just don’t like him as a coach fine, but don’t tell me it bothers you so much that he got fired over not getting along with the FO.
Anyway I know the bulls aren’t signing Joerger but someone will and he deserves it, imo he’s the top available coach right now along with McMillan, Donavan, and Atkinson. Personally I think he’s even better than them.
I'd say to me it's relevant that he's clashed with multiple FOs, but that's still mitigated (somewhat) by which FOs. Similar to Thibs, who had issues w multiple orgs and players but it's mitigated by who those orgs/players were.
What's more meaningful to me is the actual things driving the issue. So for Thibs, his style of play and grinding/not playing kids is something I'd stay away from. For Joerger, if it's right that he was not playing/developing kids, that seems a non-starter given what AK has stated is the priority.
In terms of the candidates, Udoka/Unseld excite me the most but some of that is the glory and promise of the unknown. MacMillan/Donovan would both likely be good but I don't see either as a star coach. Nate is a good developer but hasn't won at a good level, Donovan similar, with the added issue that he's lost with some pretty stop level stars (although Russ can be hard to win with). So neither is a home run but to me more of a "get respectable, develop kids, then move on to another guy as you shift gears to hopefully contend" type of coach.
This gets thrown out a lot at Thibs and Joerger. Let's look at who got played and who didn't.
Thibs
Yes
Asik
Butler
Snell
Niko
Lavine
Wiggins
KAT
Dieng
No
James Johnson
Teague
Murphy
Bairstow
McDermomtt
Dunn (who still played 17mpg)
Perhaps it's those guys who didn't play, didn't work, didn't have much talent or weren't showing much in talent. It's hard to crack rotations on 50+win teams like Thibs Bulls or Joerger's Grizz. At the end of the day Thibs played Lavine, Wiggins, Kat, Dieng huge minutes in Minny. Joerger played Hield, Bogdonovich, Fox, Bagley and Cauley Stein lots of minutes.
So if you want to pick on him for not embracing the James Johnsons, Teagues, Mc Dermotts, fine, go ahead. It's a silly arguement. Joerger took all those young guys after loosing his one star in Cousins and led them to the best record they had in a decade. I don't know what happens behind the scenes but we've see Divac, Gar, Wallace all get fired. They're getting fired for having micromanaging GM's try to force their junk picks into the rotation.
