Sign and trade wood for gs pick #2?

Post#1 » by mike06181 » Mon Sep 7, 2020 11:58 am

Supposedly golden state wants a vet who can help now and is willing to trade the #2 pick to get it. So i have a question(s) for you.

Can we trade wood for that pick in a sign and trade?

Do you think gs would do this trade?

Would you do that trade if it can be done?

Who would you take at #2 and our own 1st rd pick if this happened?

I’m thinking no. While the Pistons didn’t draft Wood he’s definitely the kind of player you hope your draft pick turns into, so trading him now seems like starting the rebuild all over. While I’m a big proponent of building a solid team through the draft, at a certain point you do need to hang onto known commodities that already contribute rather than constantly trading them for a chance at something better.

This option is only true if Wood said that he wanted to play for GSW. If that was the case, I’d push for two picks. I don’t see how (luxury) that the Warriors could add him (plus pay him) without sending back Wiggins.

1 I feel like this would qualify as tampering
2 yes
3. Honestly no.
4 wiseman, assuming Edwards was picked 1, and then a wing or pg

For number one, teams sign and trade players for picks/assets all the time.

But I can’t imagine they could work it out prior to the draft with an unrestricted free agent

Dont we have some bird rights on wood? Wasn’t the grant hill trade worked out like that? It had no picks involved but was basically the same. Couldn’t we have golden state draft the guy we want and when free agency opens sign and trade wood for that guy. Of course some players come to detroit to balance the $

Ugh, no they don't. They sign and trade players in a tiny window of time each year. Any discussions or promises outside that window are not allowed. GS isn't allowed to negotiate with Wood yet. That includes any mention of sign and trades.

The CBA does not allow this. Sign-and-trades involving a player on the final season of his current contract can only be executed during free agency.

We can try.
ABSOLUTELY NOT - INSANITY
In a New York minute
Edwards

Wood averaged 13 and 6 for a lottery team - Golden State is not trading the second overall pick for that.

Three picks plus Klay Thompson, otherwise walk away

How much Wood would we chuck if we would chuck Wood? :)

Seriously, I doubt Golden State bites on this, and goes for someone more proven if they trade #2.

I would only because I’m not sold 100 percent on Wood- his potential of resigning with us.

I don’t think the Warriors do it.

Why wouldn't the Warriors just sign Wood?

BTW, he wouldn't remotely get that pick.

I already know the answer but internally I just want to scream "Why do we end up having threads like this?".

I can't help but think:

We could throw rose and brown and get back maybe Poole, and Chrissis and take on the igoudola trade exception

Because they're 5 miles past the cap. I would only do this if Wood doesn't want to come back, I think he's better than any player in this sorry ass draft.

I think we'd need Curry coming to Detroit to make this trade fair.

So if they’re five miles past the cap, their solution is to take Wood on an eight figure contract, rather than a cost controlled seven figure contract?

Did you see the post he quoted? It said why don't the Warriors sign him themselves.
