How good is Tyler Herro?

Post#1 » by MugzZo » Fri Sep 11, 2020 2:01 am

I havnt had any time to see him other than highlights, boxscores, and college play. But he seems like he has an it factor about him and he's so very young. What kind of player is he and what do you envision him as? Can he come a a 2nd option, 3rd, or is he a killer 6th man? I'm just curious because I underrated him. I am also a hornets fan. Btw you guys have done an excellent job drafting in the past few years! I'm rooting for ya to win it all this year!

High quality ball handler, aggressive rebounder, good passer, high energy defender, sniper from distance, and last, but certainly not least, his balls are the size of pumpkins. Cluuuutch.

Very.

I could see him easily as a 2nd option (20-24 ppg) but not further, for now. Maybe Spo likes him enough as a killer 6th man and he might have to stick around there for a while. But I already consider him as a second option/killer 6 man who is counted on to take late game shots and game winning shots. Like Klay and Lou Will and so forth because he's innately clutch.

I said White Curry on draft night. So yeah. Sticking to my 100% accurate assessment.

He's really balled out here in the Bubble. We're used to seeing flashes from our youth, but Herro is showing off his talents on the regular. He could serve as a competent spot-up shooter, but as time goes on, it's becoming increasingly clear that he's able to create offense for himself and others.

Read on Twitter

That was the play that had me in shock. Young fella got clotheslined, but he still had to focus to throw up a checks notes scoop shot across his body with his off-hand. He's fortunate enough to have plenty of amazing players to soak up knowledge from, and he driven enough to add a lot of it to his game. Keep the Rookie of the Year votes; He's out there closing out games in the playoffs.

He's one to watch as time goes on.

All I heard at draft night was his dinosaur wingspan and how he wouldn't be able to even get a shot off in NBA.

I don't even remember the last time his shot was blocked or his arm lengths were brought up in conversations Booki

I'm seeting myself up for disapoint - but wth, you wanna see something cute?

Go compare Herro and D.Booker's rookie year stats. Hint - they're as identical as you can get.

https://stathead.com/basketball/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&player_id1_hint=Tyler+Herro&player_id1_select=Tyler+Herro&player_id1=herroty01&idx=bbr__players&p1yrfrom=2020&player_id2_hint=Devin+Booker&player_id2_select=Devin+Booker&player_id2=bookede01&idx=bbr__players&p2yrfrom=2016

Booker got to line a bit more, Herro shot the 3's a little better. But in the playoffs Herro uped his FT rate, so far.

Again, I'm not saying Herro will be as good a scorer as Booker - for some reason my gut is telling it's not realistic despite the stats.

But if Herro can be 80% of what Booker is on offense, and bring better defense (because he'll actually play hard and try and will get better) - that's still a great player, especially for the # 13 pick.

Whoa Rex

Herro will not have the stats like Booker because he's on a far superior team with more offensive options unless we somehow reorganize our roster and not even add any significant FA in 2021. Herro could average 25 ppg on the 2016-2019 Suns in a couple years imo but I see him going nowhere with that team either.

I think is impressive that Booker and Herro rookie numbers are so similar... Booker played for a team with no expectations and was allow to dominate the ball... Herro has done it as a complementary player on a playoff team...I would not be surprise if Herro ends as the more impactful player.. he is already a better rebounder and is light years ahead on defense when compared to Booker at the same stage

in the Kentucky college program Calipari will always feed his blue chip high 5 star lottery one and done recruits but you will always see one or two guys that manage to stay on the floor that dont get tons of points dont get featured but Calipari knows he needs them to win. That was Bam and Herro. Higher usage than the starters, willing to work hard and do what it takes to win, team guys that love to play and dont have a me attitude.

Tyler Herro wont be your superstar but he will be that guy you need with your superstar to win.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno

This guy is so underrated on the GB its not even funny. Because he's not in a raptor jersey he dosent get nearly the respect he deserves.

But make no mistakes about it this kid could be something special for years to come.

While I agree with what DrHeat said somewhat but I also think it's true that you can't just compare raw stats of two players in totally different teams/circumstances. Herro has/has had the luxury of a well run team filled with unselfish players who are willing to get him the ball in the right spot it's no surprise that he's more efficient than Booker. Booker from day 1 pretty much had to go get his by himself. He's miles ahead in terms of creating his own shot, being the focal point of offense, carrying a team and so forth. I believe that Herro can be that kinda guy, but he doesn't need to and that's not the best interest for this team right now obviously.

With that being said DrHeat >>> Dr_Heat and it's not really close. Give me DrHeat any day of the week and twice on Sunday stranger from greier Seattle.

I was livid. Youngin' was the opposite of acidic at Kentucky, with a negative wingspan and iffy athleticism

I was prepped to dawn him unathletic Coby White/White Harrison Barnes but shorty got the juice. Whatever gleam of greatness that they saw in Herro must've been gold. Maybe we undervalue private workouts because our outside view of busts like Milicic
