Should Warriors go after D’Antoni as consultant?

Post#1 » by cdubbz » Sat Sep 12, 2020 2:12 am

Just throwing out ideas here. D’Antoni is about to be 69 years old next season. He’s a coaching free agent — does he really want to coach at that age? Warriors could snag him in the consultant role that Nash was or just any random role where he’s on the staff. Interested in if D’Antoni can transition to a non coaching role and still put an offense on steroids. Add some creativity to the Warrior offense.

Not a chance of happening. Kerr and him don’t really like each other from their Phoenix days.

Kerr was the GM in Phoenix when D’Antoni was there. Kerr buddied up to Gentry(D’Antoni’s assistant coach at the time) and lined him up to replace D’Antoni as head coach.

Kerr didn’t technically fire D’Antoni(if I recall correctly). But he didn’t want him as head coach anymore and made that known.

The story I heard at the time was that Steve suggested (not a demand) D’Antoni focuses as much practice time on defense as he does on offense. D’Antoni objected to Kerr giving him coaching advice. A year later, Gentry took over as head coach.

Why ruin a good thing? I love watching Morey, D'Antoni and Harden come up short every year.

D'Antoni has one more destination in him if he leaves Houston. Philly would be interesting.

I'd rather get Gentry back. And as long as we are dreaming of more coaches, let's go for Shaka Smart from UT.

Want no part of him. He's not a winner IMO. Why bring in bad habits and the philosophy that it's not defense that wins chips.

Kerr hates Pringles and Kerr isn't known to be a hater.

Kobe hated Pringles, too, and ended up ignoring his coaching in the Lakers playoff games -- https://www.wvgazettemail.com/sports/jerry-west-mike-dantoni-remember-kobe-bryant/article_189e0357-62e8-5274-b9bf-4e683d3cd6e1.html
